First Impressions
Walking up to the Prinsengracht Hotel feels like discovering one of those Amsterdam gems that locals actually know about. It’s tucked right into the canal ring on Prinsengracht — you know, that gorgeous stretch where the houseboats bob alongside the tree-lined water and cyclists zip past like they own the place (which, honestly, they kind of do). The building itself has that classic Amsterdam canal house charm, narrow and tall with those distinctive windows that make you wonder how they ever get furniture upstairs.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying right in Amsterdam City Centre — you’re literally in the thick of things without feeling overwhelmed by tourist crowds. From the hotel, you can walk to the Anne Frank House in about ten minutes, though I’d suggest booking those tickets way ahead. The Jordaan neighborhood is right there too, with its cozy brown cafés and those tiny streets that seem to twist in directions that defy logic. Actually, getting a bit lost around here is half the fun.
The Room Experience
Look, this is a three-star place, so don’t expect sprawling suites or marble everything. What you get instead is a clean, comfortable room that feels authentically Amsterdam — think compact but clever, with those tall windows that let in amazing light during the day. The beds are actually quite good (I’m picky about this), and there’s enough space for your stuff without feeling cramped. The bathrooms are small but functional, which is pretty standard for canal district hotels.
Practical Matters
One thing that surprised me was how helpful the front desk staff turned out to be — they genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood and had solid recommendations beyond the usual tourist spots. There’s no on-site restaurant, but honestly, with Amsterdam’s incredible food scene right outside your door, why would you want to eat hotel food anyway? The breakfast situation is straightforward — nothing fancy, but it’ll get you started for a day of exploring.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place work is that sweet spot between location and value. You’re staying in one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful areas without paying those premium canal-view prices. The 7.9 rating makes sense — it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just a solid base for exploring the city. I mean, when you can step outside and be surrounded by centuries-old architecture, vibrant street life, and some of the best coffee shops in Europe (both kinds, if you know what I mean), the hotel becomes exactly what it should be — a comfortable place to rest between adventures in this incredible city.

What Our Guests Say
Comfiest bed, in a beautiful, peaceful street. The comfiest bed ever, in the most beautiful street. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Perfect continental breakfast to start the day.
What could be improved: Just being picky, in our room the tea and coffee hadn't been replenished for the time we were there. And the bathroom/bed configuration could be thought out better, but the rooms are small and I know options limited.
We enjoyed our 3 night stay - our first trip to Amsterdam. The few issues mentioned ref didn’t prevent us enjoying the s Convenient location. Warm and clean. Bed comfortable. Reasonable sized room (although en-suite a bit small.)
What could be improved: Cramped area for self-service breakfast. Limited choice of food.
No bar.
Various faults in room, ie no plug in sink - hence not able to maintain water in sink and a risk of losing small objects down the drain; height adjustment on shower riser rail not working; wall-mounted tail radiator not secure - fixings broken.
Friendly efficient staff. Comfortable quiet room. Loved the tiger cats sitting at the back door! breakfast was good. Everything you could want from wherever you came from. Liked the cheese, the brown bread, the coffee and great fresh fruit salad
What could be improved: Better to take off cushions outside on the benches when raining as the wood would dry off quicker than the soggy sponge
A warm welcoming place The attention of the friendly staff, the close location to the city. The quietness of the rooms.
Added bonus … two stunning visiting cats in there garden.
Good We were upgraded for free
What could be improved: Shower didn't work on the first night but this was rectified
A gem in the heart of Amsterdam. The breakfast was superb with a large variety and extremely fresh - everything you expect and more.
The hotel was quiet and restful. They enforced rules about noise and no smoking diligently.
The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. They couldn’t do enough to aid us in every way they could, for e.g. we asked for a toilet roll and we were hgiven 4. We asked for an additional tube of shampoo and were given a handful - the same with body lotion.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay in this cosy and charming hotel, excellently located, a welcoming experience.
What could be improved: We were given a room that faced the street whereas we were promised a room with a view of the garden.
We couldn’t use the safe in the room as it couldn’t be reset. I must admit that the staff did their best to no avail, which made the carrying of money and valuables compulsory
Superb Breakfast was substantial and fresh. Location of hotel excellent and friendly and personable staff. We would stay there again!
This is a good location for your Amsterdam stay Location , the street and the canal where the hotel is , is quite pretty
What could be improved: The receptionist a bit dry, not very wellcoming
