Prinsenboot
First Impressions When I first spotted the Prinsenboot moored along Prinsengracht, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from staying on a houseboat.
First Impressions
When I first spotted the Prinsenboot moored along Prinsengracht, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from staying on a houseboat. But this four-star floating hotel turned out to be one of those uniquely Amsterdam experiences that you can’t replicate anywhere else. The moment you step aboard, there’s this gentle rocking motion that immediately tells your brain you’re somewhere completely different from a typical city hotel.
Life on the Water
Your room aboard this converted canal boat feels surprisingly spacious, though you’ll need to mind your head in some spots — it’s all part of the authentic houseboat charm. The windows frame perfect canal views, and I spent way too much time just watching the boats drift by and cyclists pedal along the towpath. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night, despite being right in Amsterdam City Centre — there’s something about being on the water that muffles the usual city noise.
Exploring the Neighborhood
The location on Prinsengracht puts you right in the thick of things, but in the best possible way. You’re literally floating among the classic canal houses that make Amsterdam so photogenic. The Anne Frank House is just a short walk away, and you’ll find yourself naturally discovering those narrow side streets that tourists usually miss. I mean, there’s something pretty special about stepping off your floating hotel directly onto one of the city’s most famous canals.
The Floating Experience
Here’s what nobody tells you about houseboat hotels — you actually forget you’re on the water after the first night. The gentle motion becomes soothing rather than strange, and there’s this cozy, almost cabin-like atmosphere that makes you want to linger over morning coffee. The crew knows their stuff too, and they’re genuinely helpful with local recommendations (they pointed me toward a fantastic local restaurant that I never would’ve found otherwise).
Why Guests Love It
Look, staying on the Prinsenboot isn’t just about having a place to sleep — it’s about experiencing Amsterdam from a completely different perspective. You’ll have stories that other travelers simply won’t, and honestly, that 8.7 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve spent a night gently rocking on the Prinsengracht. It’s quirky without being gimmicky, comfortable without losing that sense of adventure that brought you to Amsterdam in the first place.

What Our Guests Say
What a lovely place to stay. Our host Kelsey was so friendly and helpful. Waking up on the canal❤️❤️ I could pick them up till late.
What could be improved: Working out which door to buzz in the dark was a little challenging
Exceptional Wonderful kind owner, amazing location, amazing facility. Small but everything you need.
Great first house boat experience Our favorite thing to do was sit out on the porch and watch the boats pass. So many friendly waves. Couldn't have been a better location to food, drinks and attractions. A little walk to the train station but doable. Friendly welcome and easy checkout
What could be improved: No air conditioner but fan worked
A real treat - great way to experience this beautiful city Absolutely stunning. The accommodation really made the trip special for all the family
This was a great experience. Sitting outside having a coffee watching the boats go by was sublime. The novelty of staying on a boat.
What could be improved: A bit cramped for 4x people and outdoor space only fits 2x.
Wish we could have stayed more than three nights! Staying on this particular canal on a houseboat was perfect. There was a lot of boat traffic and friendly people passing by while we had food and drinks on the small outdoor balcony. The location is a block or so from a Metro stop and a grocery store is around the corner. The hosts were friendly and helpful. There were three of us- my husband, me and our college-aged daughter- we had ample room and it’s a lovely interior. We will stay there again.
What could be improved: There was nothing we disliked.
Wonderful boat experience. We stayed here during Kings Day weekend. The location was perfect. We were able to watch the boats go past on the balcony.
The boat itself was lovely. It was shared with the hosts, however you had your own private section which was definitely big enough for 4 people for a weekend. The hosts were lovely and very attentive. They kindly left some beers and wine for us for when we arrived. We will be back.
What could be improved: Nothing to comment here.
Wonderful! The best way to stay in the Netherlands! We loved the view, location, and terrace on the canal. Truly the only way to stay in Amsterdam, we were the envy of every passing tour boat. It was near a coffee shop for breakfast parties and coffee just a few steps away. It was a little small and we hoped for a door on the bedroom but otherwise great!
We enjoyed our stay overall and I would recommend this property Excellent location, very clean. Good space overall, great host. The balcony was very nice. It was very quiet overnight.
What could be improved: Mattress wasn’t as comfortable as I like- I could feel a ridge in the middle of the bed. Although it was advertised as sleeping 4, it was not disclosed that the second bed was created by the conversion of the dining table. No privacy in bedroom, and there was not good ventilation except for opening the door to the patio. Although it didn’t bother us at all, we didn’t realize in advance that the boat is divided into two units and we didn’t have access to the top deck. The other people in the other unit were very quiet.
A very memorable stay in central Amsterdam Location: Very centrally located, within easy walking distance to all major tourist attractions. A couple of lovely cafes and a small supermarket are just steps away. The hosts were responsive and welcoming, making our late check-in process really easy. We enjoyed the nice little balcony with canal views, perfect for a drink at the end of a day exploring Amsterdam. We had a great, memorable stay. Thank you.
