First Impressions
Walking up to Plantage Garden Apartments on Plantage Muidergracht, you immediately get the sense that this isn’t your typical hotel experience. The building sits quietly along one of Amsterdam‘s more peaceful canals, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This four-star property feels more like staying in a well-appointed local residence than a commercial hotel — which makes sense, given the apartment-style setup they’ve got going here.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I really appreciate about this location: you’re in Amsterdam City Centre, but you’re not drowning in tourist chaos. The Plantage district is where locals actually want to live, and you can feel that immediately. You’ve got the botanical garden practically next door, and the Jewish Cultural Quarter is just a short walk away. I mean, you can reach the main attractions easily enough, but when you come home in the evening, it actually feels peaceful. The couples who stay here seem to get this — there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of the city.
Living Like a Local
Each unit comes with its own kitchen, which honestly changes the whole travel dynamic. You can grab fresh ingredients from the local markets (there’s a great one nearby) and actually cook if you want to. The room layouts vary, but they all have that distinctly Dutch efficiency — everything you need without unnecessary frills. The windows are generous, and if you’re lucky enough to get a canal-facing unit, well, you know what you’re in for. The furnishings feel contemporary but not sterile, sort of like staying in a friend’s well-designed place.
Getting Around
What surprised me most was how connected this area actually is. You’ve got tram stops within easy walking distance, and cycling (because this is Amsterdam) is genuinely pleasant from here. The streets are wider than in the old center, so you’re not constantly dodging other tourists on bikes. Parking can be arranged if you’re driving, though honestly, you probably won’t need a car much once you’re settled in. The whole setup encourages you to explore the city like someone who lives here rather than just passing through.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. You won’t find a spa or an elaborate restaurant here — instead, you get space, independence, and a genuine Amsterdam neighborhood experience. The recent guest ratings speak for themselves, particularly that location score. People seem to discover what I did: sometimes the best way to experience a city is to actually live in it for a few days, even if it’s temporary. The Plantage Garden Apartments gives you that opportunity without sacrificing comfort or style.
Early hotels booking in Amsterdam secures Light Festival boat slots, hidden garden tours, and private Rijks salons.

What Our Guests Say
Very good No steps,air conditioning.
What could be improved: Lack of glasses, lack of cutlery and no chopping board
Unfortunately overall wasn’t a relaxing stay at all even though the property itself was nice enough Property itself very nice inside however unfortunately road outside property dug up n like a building site and steps up to property unfinished key block with loose tiles.
What could be improved: Struggled to find property as wasn’t clearly signed on outside also no car parking so spent over 200 euros for two nights parking. I might as well have booked a more central property and spent the extra money on a 5 star with parking included.
Too hot!! The apartment was clean with most of what you would need for a short stay with family.
The area was nice and quiet and not too far from transport links.
What could be improved: The checkin process wasn’t great, we had to go to the main hotel first and then walk for another 10 mins to get to the apartment, which isn’t well signposted and we struggled to find it.
There is no air conditioning or opening windows in the apartment and we had to ask for fans to help cool down. Even with these, the temperatures inside the apartment were between 30-35 most of the time (according to the helpful temperature gauge on the wall!) - it was hotter than outside and really unpleasant to be in, especially at night when trying to sleep.
The apartment could do with some more seating as the small sofa only accommodates 2 people and it is an apartment for 4.
Very good All was good
What could be improved: But the shower was dirty
Good place for a family stay Well suited to a family with kitchen and large bathroom. Comfortable beds and good electric blinds on all the roof windows.
What could be improved: It would have been nice if the 2 bedroom areas were more separate. Also the floor boards upstairs were very loud and creaky in one spot, hard to avoid waking everyone when getting up early.
It wasn’t a big problem but we did find it hard to find the door entrance, perhaps if we had a picture of it it would make it simpler.
Really lovely apartment. The apartments were really lovely. Quite a good location, right by the botanical gardens. And so quiet! Nicely set up with everything you need for a short stay. The bed was comfy. Bathroom nice and clean.
What could be improved: I had the deluxe studio apartment, which was great except that the emergency exit sign, hung above the door, illuminated the entire room like having a light on all night. One can't help wondering it there is a slightly (or considerably) less bright option for showing the way out of what is a single room.
Clean, comfortable and convenient for 3 day stay It was clean and secure. The beds were very comfortable. It was quiet. It was a 15 minute pleasant stroll to the town centre, but there is also a tram stop a block away.
Hotel Allure staff were very friendly and helpful.
Perfect The property was in a great location 📍
The beds were amazingly comfortable.
It was clean and modern.
Lovely staff.
What could be improved: Nothing
Superb location, beautiful neighborhood with nice restaurants, quiet, and lovely walks to sites. It is an amazing location, very clean. It is very close to public transportation, restaurants nearby and grocery store, too. It is an easy walk to many wonderful locations in Amsterdam. I would stay there again!
What could be improved: It is a bit difficult to get the keys, location is not close to the hotel, especially when you have lots of luggage. It is a little warm for the summer and hard to cool down.
Good The area was great
What could be improved: It was quite small and impractical
