First Impressions
Numa Amsterdam The Crane sits right on Surinamekade in the Zeeburg district, and honestly, the location surprised me in the best way. This apartment-style hotel feels like you’re staying in a real Amsterdam neighborhood rather than some touristy bubble. The building itself has that understated Dutch charm — nothing flashy, but you can tell it’s been thoughtfully designed for people who actually want to live like locals for a few days.
The Zeeburg Experience
I’ll be honest, Zeeburg isn’t the first district most tourists think of when they picture Amsterdam, but that’s exactly why it works. You’re walking distance from the city center, but you get to see how actual Amsterdammers live their daily lives. The neighborhood has this relaxed vibe — lots of young professionals, families with kids biking to school, and those cozy brown cafés that locals actually frequent. Plus, you’re right by the water, which means morning walks along the canal feel authentic rather than performative.
Your Home Base
The room setup is what really sold me on this place. Each unit comes with a proper kitchenette — and I mean actually functional, not just a mini-fridge and a sad coffee maker. You can grab fresh ingredients from the local market and cook breakfast while planning your day. The space feels more like a temporary apartment than a hotel room, which honestly makes longer stays way more comfortable. The design is clean and modern without being sterile, and the beds are genuinely good quality.
Getting Around
Here’s what I really appreciated — you’re not fighting tourist crowds every time you step outside. The tram connections are solid (locals showed me the best routes), and cycling into the historic center takes maybe fifteen minutes. There’s decent parking nearby if you’re driving, though honestly, you won’t need a car much once you’re settled in. The area around Surinamekade has everything you need within walking distance, from grocery stores to that little bakery that does incredible stroopwafels.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star spot gets an 8.7 rating because it delivers on something most Amsterdam hotels don’t — you actually feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just visiting it. The Numa Amsterdam The Crane works especially well if you’re staying more than a couple nights or if you prefer having your own space to retreat to. It’s not about fancy amenities or concierge services; it’s about giving you a genuine Amsterdam experience in a neighborhood that still feels real. You know what I mean? Sometimes the best travel memories come from places that don’t try too hard to impress you.

What Our Guests Say
WORST EXPERIENCE We turned up to the property and couldn’t get in. Waited 2 hours for security and they could not get in. Wasted so much time and couldn’t get it so had to cancel and find another hotel. Worst experience, do not risk booking this!!!!!
What could be improved: You could not access the property!!!!!
Was good Everything was amazing, beds were comfy, furniture was new. I had everything I needed. I truly recommend it to everyone.
What could be improved: I could barely open the door to get to the last floor. I thought it was impossible but I tried again in the morning and it worked. The sad thing was that because of that we were sleeping downstairs without such a nice view .
Veiws alone are worth the price. Really fun place to stay. Away from the main city but close enough to local cafes, bars and supermarkets
Highly recommend
What could be improved: Stairs are very steep. Fine once used to them.
Exceptional Fantastic opportunity to stay in a crane. It’s an experience I’d highly recommend!
A modern stay from a totally unique perspective It’s so unique. Thoughtful amenities. It’s been beautifully restored into accommodation. Views are incredible and facilities second to none
What could be improved: It’s a bit far out, quite cold in January but we would stay again on the summer
Once in a life time experience! Staff and YAYS personnel - especially Phillipe and Mario - were extremely helpful! Location and view incredible.
What could be improved: Stairs inside The Crane is very steep, but that is typical Amsterdam - otherwise everything was awesome!
Figee Kraan. The unique experience of staying in a former working crane. Credit to the developer for the vision to create something pretty Amazing.
What could be improved: Nothing.
Amazing views - once in a lifetime stay!! Amazing property
Great location and easy to find
Amazing views!!!!
What could be improved: Nothing - just a bit hard to get baggage up but that is expected.
Could potentially have second couple (second bed) in property however stated not allowed
Incredible opportunity to stay in a unique location. Incredible location and what an experience to stay in a crane! The view from the bedroom is extraordinary. Very well located for transport.
What could be improved: The air conditioning unit in the top bedroom wasn't working at the time and it would be great to have some more opening windows, but that may not be allowed by regulation.
we come back all
What could be improved: nothing
