First Impressions
When I first stumbled upon Noorderbed in Amsterdam Noord, I’ll admit I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star spot. The neighborhood feels completely different from the tourist-packed center — quieter, more residential, with that authentic Dutch vibe you don’t get near Dam Square. The hotel itself sits on Monnikskapstraat, and honestly, the industrial-chic exterior gives you a hint of what’s waiting inside.
The Room Experience
My room was surprisingly spacious, which is saying something for Amsterdam standards. The design strikes this perfect balance between modern comfort and that raw, converted-warehouse aesthetic that Noord does so well. You know what really impressed me? The attention to detail — proper blackout curtains (essential for those bright summer nights), and the bathroom actually had space to move around in.
Location and Getting Around
Here’s the thing about staying in Noord — you’re not walking to the Rijksmuseum, but that’s actually part of the appeal. The free ferry across the IJ takes maybe ten minutes, and it runs frequently throughout the day. I found myself looking forward to those little boat rides, especially at sunset when you get these amazing views of the city skyline. Plus, you’re right in the heart of Amsterdam’s coolest emerging district, with the EYE Film Museum and NDSM Wharf just a short bike ride away.
Neighborhood Discoveries
What I loved most was having this whole different side of Amsterdam to explore. There’s this excellent restaurant called Café de Ceuvel just down the road — built on old houseboats and serving organic food that’s actually worth the trip. The area has this creative energy that feels more like Berlin than traditional Amsterdam, with street art, pop-up markets, and locals who aren’t rushing past tourists all day.
Why Guests Love It
The 9.6 rating makes complete sense once you spend a night here. The staff genuinely knows the area and gives recommendations that go beyond the usual tourist spots. There’s secure parking too, which is golden if you’re driving in Amsterdam — I mean, try finding that in the city center without paying a fortune. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re experiencing Amsterdam the way locals do, rather than just passing through as another visitor.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Good location in quiet neighborhood. Various easy options to get to city center. Very clean and comfortable. Hosts are friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Steep staircase up was difficult with big suitcases.
Exceptional The accommodation was very pretty and modern. The owner was very nice and there was no problem if we needed anything. For sure, if we ever go to Amsterdam again, we will be very happy to come back :) we really liked it here
Exceptional Clean, simple, quiet, and so very comfortable. A breath of fresh air to stay in such a beautiful home. Highest complements to Wouter, who made our visit to Amsterdam easy.
What could be improved: Nothing!
Wonderful place in a great location. The place was beautiful, even better than the photos. Aline and Wouter were perfect hosts, and check in was very easy. The location was very handy for the NDSM ferry, so easy to get into the centre of Amsterdam, but also handy for the trendy Noord area.
Great first stay on a long aadventure! Beds matter a lot to me: the mattress and linens were awesome. The host was very helpful getting us started in a new city.
The location is a welcome quiet retreat after a day in the central part of Amsterdam.
It was a great choice for our family. Attention to detail, warm welcome, high quality equipment, bed linen, toiletries, spacious, lovely interior, location.
What could be improved: Noise when the heat pump was running during the day and some road noise from the street nearby at night. It wasn't too bad though.
Nice, clean Clean, very friendly owners :)
Great stay close to the city in a newly built part of Amsterdam Very cosy, clean and great location. Easy to reach city centre either by bike, boat is close as well as bus station that takes you to metro.
Hosts were helpful with suggestions for what to do and how to reach different parts of the city.
Clean bright and contemporary accommodation that welcomed children Lovely hosts. The accommodation was really great. For the five of us, a hotel room wasn’t practical but this place was great and having a parking spot was brilliant
Peaceful and relaxing stay Lovely clean property and hosts are very helpful and communicative. We were a little worried we were going to be too far from the centre of Amsterdam but it is about 15 minute walk to the free ferry which we used all the time. Would highly recommend!
What could be improved: Nothing!
