First Impressions
Walking up to NH Amsterdam Leidseplein on Stadhouderskade, you immediately get that feeling you’re staying somewhere that actually matters in Amsterdam. The building has this solid, reassuring presence — not flashy, but you can tell it’s been here a while and knows what it’s doing. I mean, when you’re literally steps from Leidseplein, one of the city’s most vibrant squares, the location does half the talking for you.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run four-star hotel — clean lines, comfortable bed, and that particular Dutch attention to practical details. What I appreciated most was the soundproofing, honestly. You’re so close to all the action that you’d think noise would be an issue, but they’ve figured that out. The bathrooms are compact but efficient, and there’s actually decent water pressure, which isn’t always a given in older Amsterdam buildings.
Location Magic
Here’s the thing about staying right here — you’re in the sweet spot where tourists and locals collide in the best possible way. Leidseplein is literally around the corner with its cafés and street performers, but you can also walk to the Rijksmuseum in about ten minutes. The canal ring spreads out from here like spokes on a wheel, so you end up discovering those picture-perfect bridges and houseboats just by wandering. Plus, trams stop practically at your doorstep.
Dining and Amenities
The breakfast situation is solid — nothing revolutionary, but they do that European breakfast thing well with good coffee and fresh bread. There’s a restaurant on-site that serves decent international fare, though honestly, with Amsterdam’s food scene right outside, you’ll probably want to explore. The staff knows their neighborhood inside out, which makes a real difference when you’re trying to figure out where locals actually eat versus the tourist traps.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about NH Amsterdam Leidseplein is how it balances being in the thick of things without feeling chaotic. You get that authentic Amsterdam energy — the bikes, the canals, the slightly bohemian vibe of this part of town — but you also have a reliable, comfortable base to return to. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, but it nails what most travelers actually want: a great location, comfortable rooms, and staff who clearly give a damn about your experience.
