First Impressions
The Najade Eco Houseboat sits quietly along Van Diemenkade in the Westerpark district, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from staying on the water in Amsterdam. This four-star floating hotel feels more like boarding a friend’s really well-designed boat than checking into a traditional hotel — which turned out to be exactly what made it special.
The Floating Experience
Your room gently rocks with the canal water, and I mean gently — it’s not like being at sea or anything dramatic. The eco-friendly design shows everywhere, from the reclaimed wood details to the energy-efficient lighting that creates this warm, cozy atmosphere once evening hits. You know what surprised me most? How quiet it actually gets at night, despite being on the water with other boats nearby.
Location and Neighborhood
Westerpark isn’t the touristy center that everyone talks about, but that’s exactly why I liked staying here. The neighborhood has this authentic Amsterdam feel — you’ll see locals cycling to work in the morning rather than crowds of tourists with cameras. The actual Westerpark is a short walk away, and getting to the main attractions takes about 15-20 minutes by bike (which, let’s be honest, is how you should be getting around Amsterdam anyway).
Unique Features
The houseboat comes with a small kitchenette that’s actually functional — I made coffee there every morning and even managed a simple dinner one night. There’s limited parking nearby if you’re driving, though I’d really recommend against bringing a car to Amsterdam. The boat’s deck becomes your private little terrace where you can sit with a drink and watch other boats drift by, which beats any hotel lobby I’ve experienced.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea — the space is compact, and if you need a full-service hotel with room service and a spa, you’ll want to look elsewhere. But if you’re after something different and don’t mind a slightly unconventional setup, the Najade offers this genuinely unique Amsterdam experience that you simply can’t get from a regular hotel. The eco-friendly approach feels authentic rather than just trendy marketing, and waking up on the water with Amsterdam stretching out around you — well, it’s pretty memorable.

What Our Guests Say
Average The inside room was very clean and comfortable but the terrace was filthy with other people rubbish and cigarette ends. The cushions on the terrace were absolutely filthy and wet so not useable. We booked it for the terrace and was very disappointed that we couldn’t sit out there , especially as the weather was beautiful.
What could be improved: The dirty terrace and cushions
Fantastic, stay communication was brilliant everything you need for a short break in the city of Ams Self catering, but the accommodation was fantastic location fantastic very quiet and enjoyable. Bit rocky at times being a houseboat and on the water.
What could be improved: Handrail on the stairs down and a little bit of maintenance on the shower when you have a shower, the water leaks out of the shower and runs into the toilet area
Exceptional OMG! The location was amazing, and the boat was super cool! This place is incredibly romantic and perfect for enjoying a glass of wine on the boat at sunset. It's in the city center but away from the tourist zones, surrounded by local bars and restaurants. Such an amazing place—I’m 100% coming back!
What could be improved: I was a bit silly and didn't read the instructions on how to get on the boat. That's not a minus for the host; it's on me for not paying attention.
Me and my partner had an amazing stay, thank you for having us. It’s been a pleasure :) Was a really nice experience.
Exceptional The entrance is weird for the hotel, but the boat is exceptionally cool. I liked being there.
Has all the stuff you might need: hairdryer, heaters, AC power adapters, tea, coffee machine.
The washer is absent, but the laundry service is 2 buildings away and the walk to it is really beautiful.
The boat doesn't swing even in the wind, so you can comfortably lay in your bed.
The place is really comfortable and calm. A lot of cafes are within walking distance yet you're not overwhelmed with a busy city life that is closer to the centre.
Couple's getaway The location was amazing (less than 20 minute walk to central station). The bathtub was a highlight, and the bed was very comfortable.
What could be improved: You need to keep the windows open or else the temperature gets warm. There is a small drink cooler along with some dishes, cups, and cutlery, but no kitchen area (Just be aware that you won't be able to make your own meals).
Lots of fun What could be improved: Cleanliness could have been better.
Superb Hey - the location was perfect for me. I've never stayed on a HouseBoat before - it was really fun!
What could be improved: Would have been amazing if there was some bottled water in the room - as a tourist you dont always know where to find shops that sell what you need!
great experience I always love the experience to live on a boat in Amsterdam, it was great stay and experience. would do it again.
What could be improved: bit far from the center
Nice presentation but wouldn't go back Bed very comfy, liked the shower and bath. Oil heater made the space welcoming and warm. Loved the location!
What could be improved: Disappointed on arrival as the space we rented doesn't have access to all the areas photographed on the advert (the glass viewing deck) I was looking forward to enjoying our breakfast there.. the advert gave us the impression we would be renting that space as well. Didnt like the condensation dripping from all protruding metal and off windows, this water is discoloured and you can't escape it, it drips badly above the bath (especially when you're in it), you also get dripped on your head whilst in lying bed. Our biggest issue was that we were both were badly bitten in the night, can't prove it but we're both very certain the bed has bed bugs. The white towels were clean but are very stained. I'd recommend adding a TV as there is enough space and electrical sockets.
