First Impressions
The Mercure Hotel Amsterdam West sits in the Slotervaart district, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first arrived. It’s not in the heart of the tourist zone, but that actually turned out to be one of its biggest strengths. The building has that clean, modern European hotel look — nothing flashy, but you can tell it’s well-maintained from the moment you walk up.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I discovered about staying in this part of Amsterdam — you’re about 15 minutes by tram from the city center, which means you skip the crowds and noise but still have easy access to everything. The Lelylaan train station is close by, and I mean really close, which makes airport connections super straightforward. There’s a decent shopping area within walking distance too, though it’s more practical than charming — think grocery stores and cafes where actual locals go.
The Room Experience
My room was what I’d call solidly comfortable for a four-star place. The bed was genuinely good — firm but not hard, and the linens felt quality. What I appreciated most was the workspace setup; the desk actually had proper lighting and enough outlets, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotels mess this up. The bathroom was modern and spotless, though not particularly spacious.
Dining & Amenities
The hotel restaurant serves decent international fare, though I’ll be honest — I only ate there once for breakfast. The morning spread was solid with fresh bread, good coffee, and enough variety to keep you happy. There’s a fitness center that’s small but has the essentials, and the lobby area works well if you need to catch up on work or just relax with a drink.
Why Guests Love It
You know what really sold me on this place? It feels like a proper base camp for exploring Amsterdam without the tourist hotel premium. The staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just polite, and the whole operation runs smoothly. If you’re the type who prefers a quiet night’s sleep and doesn’t mind a short commute to the canal district, this works really well. Plus, there’s parking available, which is honestly a minor miracle in Amsterdam if you’re driving.

What Our Guests Say
Unexpected overnight stay near Amsterdam Airport Good breakfast, close to the airport. A tram station is rather close.
What could be improved: The price is not very low. We had to pay 10 EUR per glass of beer at the bar.
great stay Location and closeness to bus
What could be improved: bar closed a little early
Great stay, very pleased Comfy bed.
Close to bus stop.
Good value for money.
Staff were nice.
Nice and peaceful stay.
What could be improved: Had to get 2 forms of transport to get into Amsterdam city.
A very enjoyable stay in a lovely city. The hotel was excellent and what you expect from Mercure hotels. The room was a great size for us and very comfortable. The bathroom was excellent and the shower was very good. It was a perfect location for us for where we were visiting. The staff were very professional and very charming and helpful. We arrived late and the restaraunt was closed but they made us Pizzas which we got to our room and which was superb and very much appreciated. I would definately stay here again.
What could be improved: The only negative side to our stay was the charge for parking. At 25 euros a night i thought was excessive. I had booked the hotel as it had free parking but turned out not to be the case. I had to pay an additional 75 euros to park at the hotel which i didn't expect. This was the only downside to an enjoyable stay.
Very good Close to the airport but easy bus ride into the centre of town. Nice location near a lake. Very peaceful
Good The bed.
What could be improved: Breakfast was disgusting, and at 25 euros, turned to what would have been an excellent review into an average one.
Breakfast, waiting time at reception, airport bus not working. Lift not working
Comfortable, quiet, excellent location, friendly staff, very relaxed and professional atmosphere. The location of the Hotel is excellent. It is easy to get there using the bus from Schiphol Airport- Also getting into Amsterdam via the bus and trams made my stay very easeful. The cleanliness of the room, the bed was comfortable, also the room was quiet. I stayed for 2 nights. I also like the late check out time that is 12 noon.
What could be improved: I would have liked to have a breakfast option - that is not a €25 buffet.
The fridge in my room - not sure if it was working. There was a constantly flashing light- I had blackberries in there- the next morning I wasn't able to eat what was left- as they were mouldy.
Comfortable and pleasant Lovely reception and bar area. Near public transport and park/beach area
What could be improved: Room was quite small and we were a long way from reception
Very good Comfy room, not too much near by but convenient if you need to be by the airport or don’t want to be in the city.
Was a 15-20 minute bus to airport. And a 25-30 bus to the city area.
Superb We were stranded in Amsterdam from flight cancellations and significant delays in Schiphol. We were having a less than ideal start to our holiday, but the staff at this hotel were exceptional and really made up for everything. Very understanding and very accommodating for me and my young child. Special shout-out to Deborah !
What could be improved: The shower design of the room was somewhat strange. Drainage was at the highest point. So the floor never fully dries. The tap at the sink opens towards the mirror behind it and I always feared that I was going to crack the mirror.
