First Impressions
Mercure Amsterdam City Hotel sits in the Oost district, and honestly, this location surprised me in the best way. You know what I love about this four-star spot? It feels like you’re staying where actual Amsterdammers live, not in some tourist bubble. The building itself has that clean, modern look that Mercure does well β nothing flashy, but you can tell they’ve put thought into the details.
The Oost Experience
Here’s the thing about staying in Amsterdam Oost β it’s become one of the city’s coolest neighborhoods, and most tourists haven’t figured this out yet. You’re a quick tram ride from the center, but you get to experience the real city. There’s this great mix of young professionals, families, and creative types living here. The Oosterpark is literally around the corner, which means morning runs or evening strolls through actual greenery instead of crowded canals.
Room & Comfort
My room was exactly what I needed after long days exploring β comfortable bed, decent-sized desk for planning the next day’s adventures, and a bathroom that actually had space to move around. The design leans modern without being cold, and the soundproofing works well considering you’re in a busy part of the city. I mean, you might catch some street noise if you’re a really light sleeper, but it never bothered me.
Food & Social Spaces
The hotel’s restaurant serves up solid international fare β nothing groundbreaking, but reliable when you don’t feel like venturing out. What I actually appreciated more was how the lobby area becomes this relaxed social space in the evenings. You’ll often find guests comparing notes about their day, and the staff genuinely knows the neighborhood well enough to point you toward hidden gems.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the fanciest place in Amsterdam, but it gets the fundamentals right. The parking situation is way better than most city hotels β actually manageable if you’re driving in. The staff treats you like a person, not a room number, and they’re genuinely proud of their neighborhood. You’re staying somewhere that feels connected to real Amsterdam life while still having all the comfort and reliability you want from a well-run hotel. Plus, when your friends ask where you stayed, you can actually give them insider tips about Oost instead of the same old city center recommendations everyone already knows.

What Our Guests Say
Enjoyable Amazing hotel with lovely staff and very clean modern rooms.
What could be improved: Very far out from the centre, 24 minutes in a taxi to the centre.
Superb Thank you for making my stay in Amsterdam that much more magical!!! Superb property with almost everything you need at close quarters.
Superb breakfast spread and ambiance in the dining area. The conference halls too are maintained exceptionally well and the refreshments provided were great.
The staff are pleasant and helpful and the sauva and jacuzzi were a brilliant welcome after a hard day's work and exploring!
Easy access to the city centre through a quick walk to metro and tramlines. And well, being near the Amstel River is a rather beautiful walk in the mornings
What could be improved: Nothing of note. A slight miscommunication in their own systems with regards payments, were rectified quickly and efficiently.
It was good and nice and clean The property was clean ππ«Άand had all the accessories.
What could be improved: Food wasnβt great.
Nice hotel, but... Great facilities, lovely hotel.
What could be improved: Was not as close to public transport as expected. Limited room service offered and no dining options in the local area at all.

What could be improved: A better Iron would be ideal in the rooms
Great Value for Money Whenever I travel to Amsterdam, this hotel is my favorite place to stay. The location is perfect for how I like to travel. The hotel is outside the city and near the highway. I just exit the highway and park. There is a Metro station just five minutes away by walking which takes you to the city center in less than 10 minutes which is perfect. Near the hotel, you also have a small supermarket and a McDonalds if you want some late night snacks. The rooms are well sized and well equipped. The breakfast has a good selection as well. The check-in is always smooth and the onsite parking is expensive but a bit help if you are travelling by car. The bar downstairs in pretty basic and you can buy some drinks from the hotel's shop as the bar closes around 11:00 pm. Overall good value for money. I will be booking again soon.
What could be improved: A few things to mention for the team to improve:
1. The rooms can be better cleaned when they are made up during the stay. There was trash left in the baskets, some things left on the floor. I dont know if this is an environmental thing to not clean the room properly but you should look into it.
2. The room doors on the 11th floor where I was staying have scratches on them. Please fix them and they are starting to look run down.
3. The breakfast place needs a live egg station where we can get fried eggs etc. Its a very basic add but makes breakfast a better experience.
Good Room was great with one exception
What could be improved: A pair of female pants were on the shelf in the bathroom behind our clean towels
