First Impressions
When I first walked up to Maison ELLE Amsterdam on Anna van den Vondelstraat, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — the street feels more residential than hotel-ish. But that’s exactly what makes this four-star place so charming. It’s tucked into the Oud-West neighborhood like it belongs there, which I mean, it really does. The building has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “tourist hotel,” and you know what? That’s refreshing in Amsterdam.
The Neighborhood Edge
Here’s what I love about staying in Oud-West — you’re close enough to the action but far enough away to actually sleep at night. The Vondelpark is literally around the corner, and I found myself cutting through it every morning just because I could. The Leidseplein chaos is a short walk when you want it, but your street stays quiet. There’s this great little café two blocks down that locals actually use, not just tourists hunting for Instagram shots.
The Room Experience
My room was… well, it felt more like a design magazine spread than a typical hotel space. Everything’s clean lines and muted colors, but not in that cold, minimalist way that makes you afraid to touch anything. The bed was genuinely comfortable — I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you wake up confused about what time zone you’re in. The bathroom deserves a mention too; excellent water pressure and they actually give you decent-sized towels.
Daily Rhythms
Breakfast happens in this bright space that overlooks the street, and watching Amsterdam wake up while you’re having coffee is honestly pretty perfect. They don’t do a massive buffet situation — it’s more curated, which I actually preferred. The staff seems to genuinely know what they’re doing, not just going through the motions. I asked for recommendations twice and got solid advice both times, including a restaurant suggestion that ended up being one of my best meals in the city.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Maison ELLE Amsterdam works because it doesn’t try too hard. It’s sophisticated without being stuffy, local without being inconvenient. The 8.9 rating makes sense when you stay here — it’s not about flashy amenities or over-the-top service. It’s about getting the basics really right and being in a spot where you feel like you’re experiencing Amsterdam rather than just visiting it. If you want to be in the thick of everything but still be able to retreat somewhere calm and well-designed, this is your place.
Amsterdam’s hotels wrap guests in Golden Age architecture, tulip touches, and concierge-curated bike tours.

What Our Guests Say
Superb Loved our stay!! Room was a good size and easy to access with the elevator.
Comfortable beds, well decorated room and was very clean. No issues with noise, the staff were very friendly. Lighting and temp was easy to control with smart panels. Bathroom was well designed with good products.
Would definitely stay again in Amsterdam
Quiet area, friendly staff, comfortable room We loved our spacious vaulted ceiling room. Bed was comfortable, great living room space for chilling, and shower was fabulous.
What could be improved: A/c didnt work , got fixed on day 3 but with windows open wasn’t intolerable.
Great value for money Nice interior, cosy design, clean, great staff
What could be improved: Small rooms
Excellent stay right on Vondelpark Excellent location right on Vondelpark and two tram lines. Quick ride from the airport, walkable to main sights, Museum Quarter, canals, etc. Room was compact but thoughtfully designed and very comfortable, with everything needed. Possibly the world's greatest shower.
What could be improved: Pricey for what it was, though that's everything in Amsterdam these days.
A delightful hotel close to the tram and museums. Oh, and staff knows where the Best gelato can be found! Desk staff, especially Puck, were very helpful and considerate.
What could be improved: There were no luggage racks. But the armoire was sufficient to hang jackets and put clothes on shelves.
Exceptional Small but chic room. Lovely bathroom. Very clean. Lovely townhouse setting. Amazing location. Loved the bike hire option.
What could be improved: Nothing
Great location near Marais This place was nicely decorated and had a good sized bathroom.

What could be improved: Nowhere to hang towels in bathroom.
