You’re literally in the heart of Amsterdam here, steps away from Dam Square and the Red Light District, but on a quieter street that locals actually use. I loved how I could grab coffee at the corner café each morning and watch real Amsterdammers heading to work. The Nieuwmarkt is a three-minute walk, and honestly, that’s where you’ll find the best brown cafés if you want to drink like a local rather than a tourist.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but smartly designed — you know, typical Amsterdam style where every square meter counts. The windows overlooked the narrow street, and I could hear the gentle clatter of bikes passing below (which is oddly soothing once you get used to it). The bed was comfortable enough, though the bathroom was what you’d expect from a historic building — functional but not spacious.

There’s a small restaurant on the ground floor that serves decent Dutch breakfast, but honestly, I’d recommend stepping outside to explore the neighborhood food scene instead. The staff pointed me toward a fantastic Indonesian place around the corner — that’s the kind of local knowledge that makes a difference. The hotel doesn’t have a spa or fitness center, but you’re in Amsterdam — walking and cycling are your exercise here.

What I really appreciated about Locatie Downtown was its no-nonsense approach to hospitality. The staff actually knew the neighborhood and could give you directions without pulling out Google Maps. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — just a solid, well-located base for exploring the city. Exceptional *Great location, right on the Dam square and next to the train station. Even though I was very stressed in advance, the instructions we received were clear and accurate—everything went smoothly with the property management. The room was warm and comfortable, and the €500 security deposit was refunded within two days.*
*The only suggestions I would make are to add a full-length mirror and add some slightly brighter lighting around the bathroom mirror.*
Fabulous We absolutely loved our stay! The location was fantastic—just a short walk to the city centre and surrounded by plenty of food shops. The apartment was perfect: beautifully finished, with a spacious kitchen and a really comfortable shower. It had everything we needed. Thank you so much! We’d definitely recommend it!
10/10. An exceptional stay We absolutely loved our stay! The apartment is beautiful, perfectly located, and the owner is incredibly friendly and flexible. The large smart TV with a soundbar was a fantastic bonus for watching our favorite series in the evenings. For Amsterdam standards, the apartment is very well designed, with every space being utilized efficiently. A major plus is that the bedroom, bathroom, and toilet are separated from the kitchen and living area. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Amsterdam!
Exceptional Excellent experience, an unbeatable apartment and everything close and well connected to public transport. The place was even prettier than the pictures! Dirty grumpy and hassle. The weather and the museums saved it. Location
What could be improved: Getting into property was a nightmare and the phone number wouldn’t answer. Took ages in the pooring rain. Had to ask a stranger to help. The person giving instructions did not make allowances for me having hearing difficulties. Was unhelpful. The toilet is the size of shoe box and you can touch the wall with yr knees if you sit.
The alley which the property is on is used as a. Toilet every night so we had to avoid faeces and urine every day.
The process of sending a money transfer is very old fashioned and inconvenient too. The rules of the apartment are difficult to adhere too. It seemed we were doing the cleaning for them. The actual owner is doing precious little for the money. Wouldn’t recommend or book an apartment ever again.

For Indians and Asian if you have iban account then only stay in this property. Or you security deposit is never coming Property is very good but it’s a old building and very nicely decorated very clean. Locating a property was a task no mame plate…
What could be improved: Price was very high and time to check in is 5pm and check out is 11am. Its pathetic its never recommended after 2pm and they will charge you highly…. If your country doesn’t have iban bank not recommended for them because they will ask you to pay security and its a task to get back… im Indian they will never give you back with any other source except iban bank acc and its only used in Europe banks.
Amazing spot! Everything was arranged perfectly. Fantastic, cozy and highly finished premium apartment. Super centrally located in the center. Bed sleeps very well. Nice shower with high water pressure and a very large and extensive kitchen. We will definitely come back to this fantastic place. An extra thank you to the host who was very friendly and extremely helpful in making our stay extra comfortable.
