First Impressions
Walking up to Livia’s Hideaway Canalbelt, you might actually miss it at first — and that’s sort of the point. Tucked away on Amstelveld, this four-star boutique hotel feels more like discovering a well-kept secret than checking into a typical tourist spot. The building itself has that classic Amsterdam canal house charm, but there’s something understated about the entrance that makes you feel like you’re about to experience something a bit special.
Location & Neighborhood
Honestly, the location is what sold me on this place. Amstelveld is one of those quiet squares in Amsterdam that locals actually know about — you’ve got the Monday flower market right outside, and it’s this perfect little pocket where you can grab a coffee and watch the world go by. You’re still in the heart of everything, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of Dam Square or the Red Light District unless you want to. The Rijksmuseum is maybe a ten-minute walk, and you can easily stroll to the Jordaan for dinner.
The Room Experience
My room had this interesting mix of modern comfort and old Amsterdam character — think exposed beams but with really good wifi and a coffee machine that actually works. The windows looked out over the square, and I mean, waking up to that view of the canal houses across the way never got old. The bathroom was compact but thoughtfully designed, and they’d clearly put some effort into the little details like decent lighting and hooks where you actually need them.
Daily Rhythms
Breakfast happens in this cozy ground-floor space that feels more like a neighborhood café than a hotel dining room. Nothing fancy, but the bread is proper Dutch quality, and they’ve got local cheeses that you won’t find at the big chain hotels. The staff here actually seem to know the neighborhood — I got some great recommendations for places to eat that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. There’s no spa or fitness center, but honestly, you’re in Amsterdam — walking everywhere is part of the experience.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about Livia’s Hideaway Canalbelt is that it gives you that authentic Amsterdam feeling without making you rough it in some cramped hostel or overpay at a generic business hotel. The 9.2 rating makes sense when you consider that they’ve figured out how to be genuinely welcoming without trying too hard. You’re staying somewhere that feels connected to the city’s actual rhythm, not just its postcard version. If you want to experience Amsterdam like someone who actually lives here — well, this is probably as close as you’ll get while still having housekeeping and a proper shower.

What Our Guests Say
Fantastic visit in a historic house in the canal district. Okay, this is as good as it gets. The apartment is in one of the nicest areas of Amsterdam and right in the middle of a diverse and interesting neighbourhood. Be prepared to become a citizen for a while and experience what it is like to live in one of the most amazing cities in the world. You are right across from a little park/square that is full of local comings and goings, including a market on Monday. There are many restaurants and bistros in the area that are both very busy and very fun. (Don't confuse a coffee shop with a cafe though.) You can walk to many major destinations, and use the tram for most other things. (To use almost any public transit, all you need to do is tap your credit card when you get on and tap using the same one when getting off.) It would be a really bad idea to try managing a car in this area. The unit is beautifully updated while maintaining its historic character. Our host was amazing and possbily one of the most professional we've ever met; it was a warm welcome and we felt well taken care of at all times. Communictation was outstanding, and checkout was a breeze.
What could be improved: There were certainly no negatives! Here are some comments to help with expectations because experiencing a historic neighbourhood building may not be for everyone. But if you respect where you are and embrace the experience, this place could be on your short list. The building is a classic canal house design with three units stacked vertically. This is the middle unit that is reached by set of 24 stairs. The owners, who live in the upper unit, are represented by a professional property manager/host. The host helps you at check-in and check-out and everything is on one floor once you get there. Restrictions do not allow a stovetop or an oven, so expect to use microwave heat-upable dishes that are available in local groceries or markets when you want a hot non-restaurant meal. Expect sounds from your neighbours and do your best to minimize the ones you make. We didn't see the smoke detectors, but there was a prominent safety plan posted and fire extiguishers under the sink.
A tranquil place to stay in Amsterdam Livia’s place is in a fabulous, quiet, leafy location, set away from the typical tourist zones. The property is very comfortable, quiet, and tranquil after a long overseas flight. The property faces a leafy square which maybe transformed into a market, flower market, dog meet up or for school children sport. Nearby cafes, restaurants and shops offer all that you could need. The hosts are ever so kind and helpful. Highly recommend.
We had a fabulous stay in Amsterdam. Would recommend it! Stunning apartment in a beautiful district in Amsterdam. Easy walking distance of all the main sights.
Host was excellent and very attentive.
What could be improved: Only cooking facilities are a microwave but great places to eat nearby.
First visit ti Amsterdam. Beautiful city plenty to see and lovely friendly people 😁🌷 Perfect host who met us early and gave us access to leave our bags as we arrived around midday. Friendly owner who made us feel very welcome. Beautiful quiet location with easy tram access to Centraal Station and a short walk to some great restaurants
What could be improved: Nothing to complain about it was just as good as it had been described
Cozy and wonderful space! Great as a workspace as well. Very comfortable and central! Excellent space, and very comfortable. The host was incredibly kind and generous with his time.
Beautifully decorated and clean appartment in an undiscovered part of Amsterdam. You are chilling with the locals. The B The location, the design, the attentive gestures of the property manager.
What could be improved: I loved everything.
relaxing, fantastic and to be repeated Amazing host - David - cares and understands the traveller
What could be improved: stairs are a bit streep - but that's amsterdam
Exceptional Location was perfect! It was located on a quiet street yet within walking distance of places of interests and good restaurants. And the place is wonderful - the big windows in the living room, I can stay there all day! The bed was very comfortable. David, the property manager, was very responsive and accommodating.
What could be improved: If you are sensitive to noise, there could be a bit of noise from upstairs unit but very manageable.
Exceptional We had a wonderful stay.
The apartment is beautiful and very spacious.
Location was perfect, walking distance to all the great museums & so many nice food places & cafes around.
The host was very friendly and had some great recommendations for us.
Wonderful apartment, wonderful location. The apartment was really roomy with a super balcony and in an excellent location. The area was near enough everything to walk, but on such a quiet, leafy square. To sit outside in the sun before the apartment was such a pleasant surprise. I loved the Amstelveld. Great place to stay!
