First Impressions
Tucked away on a narrow cobblestone street in the heart of Amsterdam’s old city, Little Tulip feels like stumbling upon a well-kept secret. The moment you walk down Gouwenaarssteeg, you know you’ve found something special — this tiny alley is so quintessentially Amsterdam that you’ll be reaching for your camera before you even check in. The four-star boutique hotel occupies a beautifully restored 17th-century canal house, and honestly, the facade alone is worth the stay.
Location & Neighborhood
You really can’t get more central than this in Amsterdam. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Dam Square, but here’s the thing — you’re on this quiet side street that most tourists never discover. The Red Light District is right around the corner (which sounds sketchy but it’s actually perfectly safe and fascinating during the day), and you can walk to the Anne Frank House in about five minutes. What I love most is that you’re close enough to everything but far enough from the crowds that you can actually sleep at night.
The Room Experience
The rooms are compact — well, this is Amsterdam, so that’s expected — but they’ve made brilliant use of every inch. My room had these gorgeous original wooden beams and canal views that made me feel like I was living in a Dutch painting. The beds are surprisingly comfortable for a historic building, and the bathrooms are modern without losing the old-world charm. You know what really impressed me? The soundproofing is excellent, which isn’t always a given in these old canal houses.
Dining & Amenities
There isn’t a full restaurant on-site, but honestly, you don’t need one when you’re surrounded by some of Amsterdam’s best cafes and eateries. The breakfast they serve is simple but fresh — proper Dutch cheese, local bread, and coffee that actually tastes like coffee. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, so they’ll point you toward hidden gems that guidebooks miss. Parking isn’t available here (it’s Amsterdam city center, after all), but the tram stops are everywhere and walking is really the best way to explore anyway.
Why Guests Love It
What sets Little Tulip apart is that authentic Amsterdam experience you can’t get at the big chain hotels. Couples absolutely adore this place — and I can see why. There’s something incredibly romantic about staying in a centuries-old building on a quiet canal street, then stepping out your door into one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. The 9.5 rating speaks for itself, but what really matters is how the hotel makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real Amsterdam, not some sanitized tourist version. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out.
Locals suggest to book apartments in Amsterdam around the Jordaan for indie boutiques, brown cafes, and lilied stoops.

Perfect Everything was great. Many thanks to Henk and Chris for contacting us in advance and helping us check in early. The location is excellent — only one minute’s walk to the supermarket and shops. We’ll definitely choose them again next time.
What could be improved: The bed feels a little high for us.
Lovely accommodation in a really nice location handy for the station and central Amsterdam Great location and nice to be in traditional accommodation instead of a modern hotel.
Nicely decorated throughout and great to have a lounge, dining table and kitchen too! Great facilities
What could be improved: Nothing really
Exceptional The apartment is centrally located, just a 6–7 minute walk from Central Station. There are plenty of markets, coffee shops, and dining options nearby. The host was kind and attentive, and communication was very easy

Amazing in every way. What an amazing find!! We absolutely fell in love with this apartment! Gorgeous in every way. The location is amazing and so comfortable. I booked it as a surprise for my partners 40th birthday and the staff were amazing put up balloons and left a selection of goodies for us arriving. Staff were so helpful. Cannot fault this place at all. Was so lovely and relaxing sitting in the living room with the window open and the sun shining in. This was our first stay at Little Tulip but certainly won’t be our last we cannot wait to come back.
What could be improved: Leaving!
Superb The best thing was the location. It was so central we could walk everywhere we wanted to go in the city. There's a café right outisde ehich was lovely foe breakfast too. Gaining access was easy, and we were allowed a later check-in due to a late flight. Bed was comfy, bathroom spacious, view lovely, so all as it states. The stairs are steep and windey but manageable with a case.
A great stay overall.
What could be improved: It was pretty noisy outside, and in the flat below but that what you get in a city really, plus it was the Kingsley festival which is once a year.
The great location and lovely property in this friendly neighborhood made my stay most enjoyable. As the property is tucked behind the main tourist thoroughfare, it is quiet yet full of good bars, restaurants and convenient shops. Located right beside a T-junction canal gave you a unique view overlooking the boat traffic right from the apartment!
What could be improved: Leaving.
