First Impressions
Walking into Leonardo Royal Hotel Amsterdam, you’re immediately struck by how modern everything feels — like someone took all the best parts of contemporary Dutch design and threw them into one sleek lobby. The four-star property sits in Amsterdam’s Oost district, which honestly took me by surprise because it’s way more vibrant than I expected. You know what I mean? Sometimes these eastern neighborhoods can feel a bit disconnected, but this area actually has this cool, lived-in energy that feels authentically Amsterdam.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying in Oost — you’re getting real Amsterdam without the tourist chaos of the city center. Paul van Vlissingenstraat might sound intimidating to pronounce, but the location is actually brilliant. There’s this fantastic park system nearby (Oosterpark is literally a few minutes away), and the local cafés serve coffee that puts most tourist traps to shame. The tram connections are solid too — you can reach Centraal Station in about 15 minutes, which means you get the best of both worlds.
The Room Experience
My room had floor-to-ceiling windows that made the space feel massive, even though it wasn’t particularly huge by international standards. The beds are those firm European-style mattresses that somehow manage to be incredibly comfortable once you settle in. What I really appreciated was the attention to lighting — there are actually enough outlets near the bed, and the blackout curtains work properly (trust me, this matters when you’re dealing with those long Dutch summer evenings).
Dining & Amenities
The hotel’s restaurant focuses on this modern European menu that changes seasonally, which I found refreshing after seeing so many cookie-cutter hotel dining options. They actually source ingredients locally when possible — the breakfast spread includes proper Dutch cheeses and bread from neighborhood bakeries. There’s also a fitness center that’s well-equipped without being overwhelming, and the spa area has this compact but relaxing sauna that’s perfect after walking around the city all day.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Leonardo Royal Hotel Amsterdam work so well is how it balances being polished with feeling genuine. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — they’ll point you toward that hidden Indonesian place around the corner or explain which tram route avoids construction. The parking situation is handled smoothly too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Amsterdam by car will appreciate. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals would actually recommend, not just another international chain that happens to be in the Netherlands.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Totale beleving was top
I will be back The location is perfect, as I had a conference out of town, so the access to the metro could not be closer. Getting into town was easy, and even the bike hire was easy and available right outside the front door.
What could be improved: Nothing
If the WiFi would have stayed consistent it would have been a 9 There was a good choice off breakfast for all.
What could be improved: The WiFi kept dropping out in my room, if it wasn't for this my review would be a 9/10
Good Clean rooms and facilities. Bar staff very friendly.
What could be improved: Breakfast a bit disorganized, albeit that hotel was very busy.
Very nice lowkey place to stay, but don’t bank on breakfast Comfy beds, clean and modern room Inc facilities, very good public transport links, exceptional staff
What could be improved: Breakfast(specifically the cooked meats) were poor and did not looks at all appealing. Bike rental was exceptionally expensive - it cost lest in total on the metro for 4 days travel than 1 day bike rental would’ve cost.
Superb The hotel is big and clean, rooms are not small. Bed is comfortable, same as the bathroom
What could be improved: Well, the metro was not working, and it’s a bit of a walk distance from the centre
Went to see Green Day and were lucky to find such a perfect place to stay.. Excellnt location 2 mins from train..superr clean ,up to date rooms and friendliest staff we have encountered in years.
What could be improved: Nothing
A Perfect Accommodation for Weekend Modern Interior Design, modern facilities
What could be improved: location of the hotel, parking price
Convenient for short stays in Amsterdam though a bit outside city centre nice breakfast, very convenient small store in the lobby working 24/7, very close to metro station, nice modern hotel, closeby market stores
What could be improved: A bit pricey, I was unable to get an uber due to its distance from the centre, no uber would pick us up, somewhat pricey breakfast per person
Great value from a truly hospitable hotel with excellent facilities. Friendly staff good facilities
