First Impressions
Walking up to Keizershouse Amsterdam on Keizersgracht, you’d honestly think you’re approaching someone’s beautifully preserved canal house rather than a hotel. The building itself is this gorgeous 17th-century townhouse that blends so seamlessly into the historic streetscape — I mean, you could easily walk right past it if you weren’t looking for the subtle signage.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying right on Keizersgracht — you’re literally on one of Amsterdam’s most famous canals, but it doesn’t feel touristy at all. The Jordaan district is just a few minutes’ walk away, and you know what? You can actually reach the main museums on foot without dealing with tram crowds. Plus, there’s this fantastic local café called Café de Reiger around the corner that most visitors never find.
The Experience
What strikes you immediately is how this four-star place manages to feel both intimate and polished. The staff genuinely seems to know every guest by name — not in that forced way some hotels do, but naturally. Each room has been individually designed, so you’re not getting some cookie-cutter hotel experience. Some have canal views (worth requesting), while others overlook the quiet courtyard garden that’s actually a lovely surprise when you discover it.
Practical Details
The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a converted canal house — they’re not huge, but they’re thoughtfully laid out with modern amenities tucked cleverly into the historic bones of the building. Breakfast happens in this bright conservatory space that opens onto the garden, and honestly, it’s one of those moments where you remember why you came to Amsterdam in the first place. The WiFi actually works properly throughout the building, which isn’t always a given in these old canal houses.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Amsterdam has plenty of hotels, but Keizershouse gets something right that many miss — it feels authentically Amsterdam without trying too hard. You’re staying in a piece of the city’s history, on one of its most beautiful canals, but with all the comfort you actually want. The 9.4 rating makes sense when you experience how the place operates — everything works smoothly, but it never feels corporate or impersonal.

What Our Guests Say
If we ever get back to Amsterdam we will definitely check into the Keizershouse again. The property and hostess (Nataliya) were wonderful. The location is central to all of our major interests (Van Gogh, Anne Frank & canal cruise) and made for 'relatively' short walks. While our schedule didn't allow us to take advantage of both breakfasts, the one we had was more than we expected.
What could be improved: The only thing was the staircase, especially carrying luggage but this is to be expected in an older home in Amsterdam and not a major deterrent.
Perfect place in a lovely neighborhood with super view of canal Lovely room and bathroom. Pleasant and helpful host. Very nice breakfast. Comfortable bed. Very clean. Nice residential area in a canal. Quiet. Great shower and robes. We loved our stay.
Just the most wonderful way to finish our month’s trip to Europe. The highlight of all our accomodation. Just superb! Gorgeous with a lovely view over Keiserzgracht canal. Very plus. Very comfortable bed. Perfect in every way.
Enjoyable location and beautiful property! Great location, beautiful view, spacious and very clean. Breakfast smelled amazing every morning!
What could be improved: I liked it all! It was the most expensive of our stays on this trip. My husband booked it so I’m not sure how it compares to other nearby locations, but I know you have to pay a premium to stay in the city proper. So that was ok, since it was only two nights.
Exceptional Every thing, view was perfection, breakfast delish and Nat was warm and friendly. Very happy with our stay ❤️
There are steep stairs, so if you are have heavy luggage keep that in mind.
What could be improved: Loved everything
Wonderful Natalyia is a great host. Very responsive to our needs and requests. Her apartment is beautiful, very comfortable, clean and the location could not be more central and convenient. The canal views from the rooms are spectacular. Highly recommend her place
What could be improved: I liked everything
Good location and comfortable bed. Spacious room, good shower, comfy bed, canal view. Very clean.
What could be improved: Steep, narrow, circular staircase up to room. Would have liked notice of this - or maybe we missed it. Good espresso machine but would have appreciated cream and sugar.
Exceptional Nataliya was a wonderful host preparing early breakfast in advance for us on our last day. She also allowed us early entry which was a relief after arriving from Australia. The canal view from the Pilot room was exceptional.
What could be improved: Not much, really. There could be more hooks for towels...
Wonderful location Our stay was wonderful – the accommodation was very comfortable, with a fabulous view of the canal. The host was incredibly friendly and helpful, making the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended
What could be improved: There was nothing we did not like.
Exceptional Excellent location, amazing view from the huge window, delicious breakfasts…. and more….
What could be improved: That I couldn’t stay longer…
