The building blends seamlessly into the historic neighborhood — which is exactly what makes it special. I mean, you’re literally staying in a 17th-century canal house that’s been transformed into a four-star boutique property, and the entrance feels more like stepping into someone’s elegant home than a hotel.

Location & Neighborhood

The location is actually brilliant — you’re in the heart of Amsterdam City Centre but tucked away from the chaos of Damrak and the Red Light District. Kalkmarkt itself is this charming little street where locals still live and work, so you get that authentic Amsterdam feel. The Anne Frank House is maybe a three-minute walk, and you can reach Dam Square in about the same time, but when you come home at night, it’s peaceful.

The Suites

Each apartment here is different — some have exposed wooden beams, others feature those impossibly tall windows that Amsterdam is famous for. The one I stayed in had a proper kitchenette with everything you’d actually need, not just a mini-fridge and coffee maker. The design walks this perfect line between honoring the building’s history and feeling thoroughly modern. You know what surprised me most? The bathrooms — they’re genuinely spacious, which is rare in Amsterdam’s old buildings.

There’s no traditional hotel restaurant, but that’s sort of the point — you’re living like a local. The kitchen setup means you can grab fresh ingredients from the Saturday market at Noordermarkt (just across the canal) and actually cook something. The staff gives you proper neighborhood recommendations too, not just the tourist traps. They pointed me toward this tiny café around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise.
