First Impressions
Walking into Joy Hotel, you immediately get the sense that this three-star spot knows exactly what it is — and honestly, that’s refreshing. The lobby has this clean, straightforward vibe without trying too hard to be something it’s not. It’s the kind of place where the staff actually remembers your name by day two, which I mean, doesn’t happen everywhere in Amsterdam.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about Zuidoost — most tourists write it off because it’s not the canal ring, but they’re missing out. The hotel sits on Hullenbergweg, and while that might sound intimidating, you’re actually well-connected to everything that matters. The metro gets you to Centraal Station in about 20 minutes, and there’s something nice about coming back to a quieter neighborhood after a day of dodging cyclists and crowds in the city center.
The Room Experience
My room was exactly what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, functional, with a bed that didn’t leave me complaining the next morning. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, and they’ve clearly put thought into the little details like decent lighting and enough outlets near the bed. You know what I appreciated? The blackout curtains actually worked, which is surprisingly rare in Amsterdam hotels.
Practical Perks
The restaurant downstairs serves honest food — nothing fancy, but their breakfast spread hits the right notes with fresh bread, decent coffee, and local cheeses. There’s parking available, which if you’ve ever tried to park in Amsterdam proper, you’ll understand is basically a small miracle. The neighborhood has a few local spots worth checking out too, including a great Indonesian place just a ten-minute walk away.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
Look, Joy Hotel isn’t trying to be the most Instagram-worthy spot in Amsterdam, and that’s actually its strength. It’s the kind of place where you get solid value, friendly service, and a good night’s sleep without paying canal-side prices. The 7.8 rating makes sense — it delivers on what it promises without any pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need in a city that can feel overwhelming.

What Our Guests Say
Superb All the facilities in rooms - outside rooms - coffee machine in the loby - staff very helpful
What could be improved: Far from the center but very close to the train so it’s okai
Convenient, cost effective, great transport links The room size was very good for what they considered ‘small’. Choice of colours for the room seemed intentional. The sun was hitting the room in a nice way that wasn’t overbearing. Kudos to whoever interior designed that. Basic design but clean
What could be improved: The Netflix and YouTube weren’t working because the tv wouldn’t connect to the internet. Wasn’t happy about that. Also the shower is a mess. The water spills out into the rest of the bathroom
Very good Location is close to train and bus stop, but far from the major attractions. They also provide customers with water boiler and a little freezer.
What could be improved: i saw price of this hotel for 66 euro per night on google. but I paid much more than this price for my booking.
Very good really nice and helpful staff, the room was cleaned every day without disturbing our baggage. Shower worked great and I appreciated all the counter space in the bathroom.
What could be improved: room desperately needs renovations - the bathroom door doesn't shut, grout in the shower was stained, there was a hole in the flooring panels and the door could use more sound proofing, because noises from the corridor were quite clear.
Good value for money for families - horrible breakfast Clean
What could be improved: Breakfast
Very good Near to Amsterdam Arena
We had a room upgrade for free
What could be improved: International breakfast good but not great
Very good Clean, modern and comfortable rooms.
What could be improved: Hard to find the entrance to the parking. Breakfast a bit limited.
Nice place to stay for Ziggo Dom concert goers. It's close to metro station.
Good for travelers. Location close to "Bijlmer Arena". Close to metro and bus station. Provides everything you need for a short stay in Amsterdam. Away from the noise of the city center, but the center easily accessible.
What could be improved: none
A Joy to stay at the Joy Hotel. Breakfast being available.
Breakfast was excellent.
A free room upgrade without asking.
What could be improved: We weren't told about the roadworks outside the hotel.
