First Impressions
Walking up to the ibis Styles Amsterdam Amstel, you immediately notice it’s not your typical cookie-cutter chain hotel. The building has this modern, colorful facade that actually fits well with Amsterdam’s eclectic architecture — though honestly, it took me a moment to spot it among the residential buildings on HemonyLaan. The lobby hits you with bold artwork and vibrant colors that feel distinctly Dutch without being kitschy about it.
The Neighborhood
Here’s what I really appreciate about this location — you’re in the Rivierenbuurt district, which means you get that authentic Amsterdam residential feel without being stuck in the touristy center. The Amstel River is literally a few minutes’ walk away, and I found myself taking evening strolls along the water more often than I expected. You’ve got the Albert Cuyp Market about 15 minutes on foot, which is perfect for grabbing fresh stroopwafels and people-watching.
The Room Experience
The room design is what you’d expect from a three-star ibis Styles — clean lines, smart use of space, and those signature pops of color that somehow work. I mean, the bathroom is compact (this is Amsterdam, after all), but everything functions well. The bed was genuinely comfortable, and the soundproofing is better than I anticipated given that you’re on a residential street with trams nearby.
Practical Considerations
The breakfast setup impressed me more than it should have — it’s continental but done thoughtfully, with local touches like proper Dutch cheese and fresh bread. There’s parking available, which is honestly a blessing if you’re driving in Amsterdam, though most guests probably won’t need it. The staff actually knows the area well; they pointed me toward a great local restaurant that wasn’t in any of my guidebooks.
Why Guests Love It
What really works here is the balance — you get the reliability of an international brand with enough local character to feel like you’re actually in Amsterdam, not just any European city. The tram connections are solid (line 4 gets you to Central Station in about 20 minutes), but the neighborhood itself has enough going on that you don’t feel compelled to rush into the center every day. For the price point, it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.
Amsterdam hotels keep travelers close to cycling routes, floating flower markets, and tram lines to hidden gems.

What Our Guests Say
Great location and nice comfortable hotel Location
Comfort
What could be improved: Nothing
Dark, quiet room. Just what I needed. staff were great. Location is excellent.
Great place would stay here again. Quiet location but close to restaurants and museums Great location close to all amenities and tram
What could be improved: Nothing to dislike
Very good Pretty good location and quite nice to explore the local neighborhood including the popular markets and even the main street. Very close to a tram stop.
What could be improved: Many people get confused with the other Ibis which is around the corner
Superb the crazy shape of the room
What could be improved: the mad stairs
Superb This hotel is great for foodies as you're on the doorstep of Amsterdam's biggest food market. There are also two supermarkets close by for essentials, and you're close to two tram lines and a metro so you can get anywhere in the city super quickly. There are parks, bars and restaurants close by, but none that will keep you awake at night. Staff are friendly and helpful and the room was clean and inviting. Recommended.
What could be improved: Only possible improvement would be a fridge in the room, other than that no negatives.
Good Good location at De Pijp and very nice staff
What could be improved: Had hoped for a bit more variety from the Breakfast.
Very good Located in a very nice area and walking distance from city centre, with a tram stop just one minute away. Kind and helpful staff. Bed was comfortable.
What could be improved: There was a bit of black mould in the shower (room 210). Also it doesn't keep the temperature and hits with very hot or very cold water.
Superb Kind staff, brilliant location near a local market, great pizza toast place nearby and a Lidl and small but nice room and great breakfast.
What could be improved: Small shower area.
Nice hotel in Amsterdam The hotel stay offered a combination of quietness and accessibility in Amsterdam's Amstel/De Pijp neighborhood. The location was notably quiet, contributing to restful nights while still allowing convenient access to city areas.
The staff were consistently helpful and polite, assisting guests with a professional demeanor. Interactions were generally positive, contributing to a sense of being well-attended.
The room was clean and organized, providing a functional and comfortable space. Items were arranged neatly, which contributed to the overall orderliness of the room.
What could be improved: The moquette had a bad small, like cigarette smoke, but I could make it less annoying turning up the air conditiong.
