Houseboat studio with canalview and free bikes

First Impressions When I first spotted the Houseboat studio with canalview and free bikes moored along Jaagpad, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect.

First Impressions

When I first spotted the Houseboat studio with canalview and free bikes moored along Jaagpad, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, staying on a houseboat sounds romantic in theory, but you wonder about the reality — will it rock too much, will it feel cramped? Well, this four-star floating gem in Amsterdam‘s Oud Zuid district completely won me over. The moment you step aboard, there’s this immediate sense of calm that washes over you, and the canal views through the windows are absolutely mesmerizing.

The Floating Experience

The room itself is cleverly designed — it’s a studio layout that maximizes every inch without feeling claustrophobic. What really impressed me was how stable everything felt; you get just the gentlest rocking motion that’s actually quite soothing. The beds here are seriously comfortable (and trust me, I’m picky about mattresses), which explains why guests consistently rave about getting great sleep. There’s something magical about falling asleep to the soft lapping of water against the hull and waking up to canal views right outside your window.

Oud Zuid Neighborhood

The location in Oud Zuid is honestly perfect — you’re in this upscale, residential area that feels authentically Amsterdam without the tourist chaos of the city center. It’s the kind of neighborhood where locals actually live, with tree-lined streets and that relaxed vibe you’re hoping to find. The fact that couples rate this spot so highly (9.2 out of 10) makes total sense when you’re strolling these quiet canals in the evening. You can easily bike into the museum district or the city center, but you get to retreat to this peaceful waterside sanctuary.

Getting Around

Speaking of biking — the free bikes are a game-changer. I mean, this is Amsterdam, so cycling is basically mandatory, and having quality bikes included saves you the hassle and expense of rentals. The bike paths along the canals here are less crowded than the main tourist routes, so you can actually enjoy the ride instead of dodging other tourists. From this spot, you can reach Vondelpark in about 10 minutes, the Rijksmuseum in 15, and the city center in maybe 20 minutes of easy pedaling.

Why Guests Love It

What sets this place apart is how it delivers on the Amsterdam houseboat fantasy without any of the usual compromises. You get that unique floating experience, but with modern amenities and thoughtful design. The 9.6 rating really reflects how this place exceeds expectations — guests come thinking it’ll be a quirky novelty and leave genuinely impressed by the comfort and location. It’s particularly perfect for couples looking for something special, but honestly, anyone wanting to experience Amsterdam from a different perspective will love it here. The combination of peaceful canal-side mornings and easy access to everything the city offers is pretty hard to beat.

Amsterdam’s hotels pair floating breakfasts, secret speakeasies, and concierge-led bike safaris.

Superb The houseboat was very cozy, clean, and had everything you need in a small space. It was such a unique and relaxing experience to stay right by the water. Once the windows are closed it’s very quiet, and having access to bikes was a wonderful bonus. The landlord was kind and helpful, and it felt safe and comfortable, even as a solo traveler. I also appreciated that there were some snacks, very nice wine, and beer available, and just around the corner there’s a nice hotel café where you can enjoy a good breakfast or lunch. Thank You Lone! :)

What could be improved: Sound carries easily over the water, and since the landlord lives right next door, I wasn’t sure how much noise I could make. This made me a bit hesitant about playing music or talking late at night. It’s a perfect place to relax, but not for parties or staying up late being noisy.

Exceptional stay. Cannot fault this little gem. Both hosts were excellent and the little touches added such as wine, beer, juice, fresh flowers,
coffee pods and milk were a welcome to remember. We also loved the views from the boat it was exceptional and even got used to waking up to the sound of ducks. Lone helped us plan the best routes to get to the different sites we wanted to see. There are also two bikes to use but we were too long in the tooth to use safely but a definite bonus if going shopping or riding to the nearest station where you park your bike and go. However we found we could walk to shops, tram stations and restaurants easily and it took about 20 to 30 minutes. We would love to return to this houseboat and would happily recommend it.

What could be improved: There was nothing we didn't like.

Perfect! Absolutely loved our time at the houseboat. Beautiful location, clean and nicely decorated houseboat. The host was so so lovely. She gave us lots of advice and fresh flowers. So kind there were snacks and drink when we arrived. Would love to stay again. Perfect!

You must stay at this charming treasure if you want to make your trip to Amsterdam extra special! ✨ On arrival, we were greeted by the lovely Lone who showed us round the place. The houseboat is bright and beautifully decorated, with a terrace overlooking the canal. It’s truly a perfectly peaceful spot to watch the world go by. The facilities were top notch and we found the pillows at night time particularly comfortable. Lone provided lots of extra touches to make us feel at home.

The local area has a safe, community feel to it, full of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants away from the more touristy parts of Amsterdam. The houseboat is a short walk from Vondelpark, which is a must visit on a sunny day.

There are multiple ways to venture into the centre. We opted for the tram which is very straightforward, but you could hop on the train or use the bikes provided if you wish.

At one point, there was a short power cut in the property caused by some building works in the area, which Lone noticed before we did! This caused us no issues, however we wanted to mention her attentiveness and how quickly she popped round to make sure we were okay.

This has been one of our favourite places to stay and we highly recommend it!

What could be improved: If you’re on a short city break and want to make the most of your trip in the centre, we’d recommend staying in the city for the whole day to save time, rather than travelling back and forth. Not really a negative, more of a hot tip.

Great for stays on the water. Bedding is great. Great property of the side of their own home.

What could be improved: Very very small. Limited seating or personal space.

I have no hesitation in recommending this gorgeous little house boat.. we will be back on our next vistcto Amsterdam. From the moment we arrived we were warmly greeted by our host.
There was a bottle of wine and traditional waffle biscuits waiting on our arrival after our long drive from Germany. Lone, the host was fantastic and went out of her way to make our stay memorable. The place was spotlessly clean, the kitchen had every utensil and appliance needed plus the bed very comfortable. Though the house is small is certainly does not lack any creature comforts and is quirky and cute. The bikes were a bonus and we were able to ride through the beautiful city park into the city, roughly 20 minutes and truely made us blend in as a local.

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing
