First Impressions
Hotel Sebastians sits right on Keizersgracht, one of Amsterdam’s most iconic canals, and honestly — the location alone made me pause when I first walked up. This four-star boutique hotel occupies a series of those classic narrow canal houses you see on every Amsterdam postcard, but there’s something refined about how they’ve restored them. The entrance is understated in that distinctly Dutch way, where elegance doesn’t need to shout.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re literally in the heart of Amsterdam City Centre here, which means you can walk to Anne Frank House in about five minutes and reach Dam Square just as quickly. What I actually love about this spot is that it’s on the quieter stretch of Keizersgracht — you get those postcard canal views without the constant tour groups that cluster around some other canal hotels. The Jordaan neighborhood is right across the water, so you’ve got easy access to those cozy brown cafés and vintage shops.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had that perfect balance between historical character and modern comfort. High ceilings, original wooden beams, and windows that actually open onto the canal — something you don’t always get in Amsterdam hotels. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have been updated without losing the building’s charm. You know what impressed me? The soundproofing is surprisingly good for a centuries-old building.
Dining & Amenities
The hotel’s restaurant focuses on contemporary European cuisine, and while I didn’t expect much initially, the dinner I had there was actually memorable. They source locally when possible, which feels right for a place like this. Breakfast is served in a gorgeous room overlooking the canal — and trust me, starting your Amsterdam morning watching bikes and boats go by never gets old. There’s no flashy spa or pool, but honestly, you’re staying here for the authentic Amsterdam experience, not resort amenities.
Why Guests Love It
What sets Hotel Sebastians apart is how it captures that quintessential Amsterdam feeling without trying too hard. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood — they’ll point you toward the best stroopwafel stand or tell you which canal tour actually avoids the crowds. With an 8.9 rating, guests consistently mention the same things I noticed: the prime canal location, the thoughtful restoration, and that feeling of staying somewhere with real character rather than just another chain hotel in the city center.
Amsterdam hotels keep travelers close to cycling routes, floating flower markets, and tram lines to hidden gems.

What Our Guests Say
I would highly recommend this oasis of calm and comfort. Quiet and peaceful despite central location. Comfortable room and excellent en suite. Staff were very efficient and friendly. Lovely bar and the free welcome drink was a nice touch. Happy to store our luggage on check out day.
Terrific boutique hotel in a quiet area of Amsterdam The property was in a fantastic location, slightly away from the crowds by the train station or the museum area. The staff was terrific.
What could be improved: Room 115. It was up two steps, down a hallway, down a flight of steps and had a school right in front of that part of the hotel.
Our favourite stay. We stayed for 6 nights in a canal view room. Although the room was small it had everything we needed: super comfy bed, bright clean bathroom, Nespresso coffee maker, fridge, safe and room for our clothes and bags. Best of all - a nook with 2 chairs overlooking the canal where we could perch day and night and watch the every hanging scene below. Breakfast was good and the staff always smiling and helpful. Five star stay.
What could be improved: -
Exceptional Location. Close enough to access sites but still in a great uncrowded neighborhood

simply awesome Staff were absolutely friendly; location is great, we did enjoy very much staying at the Sebastian Hotel, will do it again and do recommend others to try the hotel.
What could be improved: maybe we should have tried the rooms in the upper floors to enjoy a better view of Amsterdam...
Cozy, quiet hotel with quirky character in great location. Stylish but unpretentious vibe. I booked a room that was billed as small, but it was cozy and comfortable for one person. I stored one piece of luggage in the bathroom, but that wasn't a problem. The room was super quiet and had everything I needed. The hotel is in a convenient location -- it's on a canal, the train station is 10 minutes' walk in one direction, and the Anne Frank House is 10-15 minutes' walk in another direction.
What could be improved: My only regret is that I didn't have time to get a drink at the hotel bar!
We booked the small room and it had more space than we expected! LOVED the location and canal view! Central location and easy to walk to sites and restaurants. Really enjoyed sitting by the open window and watching the canal!
Great staff, location and rooms Location was great
What could be improved: Not a lot not to like, it was great
Glorious view of the canal from My top floor room The location was perfect, and my canal room view was everything I could have hoped for. I enjoyed my evenings on the terrace, watching the parade of boats. Love the elegance of Keizersgrachten and the convenience of walking to museums, grocery stores, restaurants, trainstation, and locations of historic interests. I never tired of strolling the canal lanes and admiring the beautiful Amsterdam townhouses and houseboats.
Staff were helpful. Pleasant.
Highly recommend, and I will come back.
What could be improved: Nothing
Great location: close to everything but yet quiet too Excellent location, quiet for sleeping, helpful and friendly staff, loved having a room overlooking the canal, nice to have breakfast option and bar available for beverages.
What could be improved: Bathroom was a bit cramped but that was not unexpected when staying in a monument building.
