First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Roemer Amsterdam on Roemer Visscherstraat, you immediately notice how it blends into the neighborhood rather than screaming “tourist hotel.” The building has that classic Amsterdam charm — narrow, elegant, and tucked into a tree-lined street in Oud-West that feels more residential than touristy. It’s the kind of place where you might actually mistake it for someone’s very fancy townhouse if not for the discreet signage.
The Neighborhood Feel
Here’s what I love about this four-star spot — you’re in Amsterdam, but you’re not drowning in crowds of selfie sticks and tour groups. Oud-West has this wonderful local vibe where you’ll find actual Dutch people going about their day, great cafés that aren’t tourist traps, and streets perfect for just wandering around. The Vondelpark is literally a few minutes’ walk away, which honestly became my morning routine — grab coffee and stroll through the park before the city fully wakes up.
The Rooms
My room was on the smaller side (this is Amsterdam, after all), but thoughtfully designed with clean lines and a sort of understated elegance. The bathroom was actually quite spacious compared to what you typically get in the city center, and I appreciated the quality toiletries — small touches that show they’re paying attention. The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d wrestled with the mattress all night, which, you know, sometimes happens in boutique hotels.
Daily Life at the Hotel
The breakfast situation is solid — not over-the-top elaborate, but fresh and well-executed with local options that go beyond the standard continental spread. What struck me most was the service; the staff genuinely seemed to know the area and could point you toward places locals actually go rather than just handing over a tourist map. There’s a cozy lounge area where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re sitting in a hotel lobby, if that makes sense.
Why Guests Love It
Hotel Roemer Amsterdam works because it doesn’t try too hard. You’re getting quality without pretension, a real neighborhood experience without sacrificing comfort, and easy access to both the museum district and the more authentic parts of the city. The tram connections are excellent — you can be in the city center in minutes when you want the tourist experience, but you can also explore the local markets and brown cafés that make Amsterdam special. It’s particularly great if you’re the type of traveler who wants to feel like you’re staying somewhere with character rather than just passing through another anonymous hotel.

What Our Guests Say
Lovely stay, quiet area, wonderful staff - but get breakfast elsewhere. Room was delightful - larger than expected, and with a lovely view to the rear of the property. Bathroom had both a larger jacuzzi/jet bath, and a rainfall shower. All the staff were always very welcoming and helpful. The hotel's in a lovely area - near facilities, public transport, a wonderful park, museums, shops, and many cafes & restaurants.
What could be improved: Breakfast (not pre-booked, bought for a single morning of the 4-night total trip) was very expensive for what was available; more that other hotels of a similar type, and meals of a similar nature. Amsterdam has some wonderful cafes & restaurants, go to some of them instead if you have the time.
Really good - Totally recommend it Good location, they stored our luggage after checkout, modern room
Very nice place Great location. Nice staff, especially in the restaurant. Comfy beds. Excellent breakfast. In many places the eggs come from some pre-prepared something, but this was made from scratch. My son cannot have gluten and lactose and they had baked especially for him. That is excellent service. We were also a bit slow to check out. No fuss at all. Much appreciated.
What could be improved: We booked a twin room, but didn't get it. We booked that hotel specifically for that, so that was a bit annoying, but we did get a kingsized bed with separate sheets.
Worth staying at the Center Central location, with available spacious rooms to book, very strong A/C which is absolutely necessary during summer months. Very helpful, kind and competent staff.
Very good Great location. Walkable to the main site-seeing.
Great little hotel great location. Will definitely stay again! The location was awesome!
What could be improved: The double beds (at least mine) were two twins pushed together - which tended to speed as apart and make a hole
Pleasant, quiet and comfortable. The location was good for us - a quiet neighborhood very close to the art museums and Vondel Park and within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops and transport. The staff was helpful, friendly and accommodating. We did not use the breakfast option. We appreciated the elevator. Everything was clean and well maintained. We were comfortable there and could relax after a full day without noise or distractions.
What could be improved: The room seemed designed for very tall people, The closet bar was almost out of reach and fell on us when we tried to hang clothes up. The shaving/makeup mirror was also above our heads and the toilet and sink were unusually high. There was a topper on the bed, which was comfortable, but too large, so that it hung over the side and dipped down if you got too close to the edge.
Very good The breakfast was great, staff was very kind and helpful, and heating and conditioning worked well.
What could be improved: Room 18 is right by the kitchen, so starting early in the morning there is a lot of kitchen noises, making it hard for light sleepers like myself to sleep.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is situated in a very quiet suburban side road. Very peaceful at night. Great tram links into the centre of Amsterdam. Would recommend.
Superb Its very central and quite cozy plus I ve liked the artworks inside . You can walk everywhere:) Staff Sara and Alfredo are helpin and friendly 🙂
