First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Oscar on Amstel street, you’ll notice it’s not trying to be something it isn’t — and that’s actually refreshing. This three-star property sits right in the heart of Amsterdam City Centre, occupying a classic Dutch building that feels authentically local rather than touristy. The entrance is modest but welcoming, with staff who seem genuinely happy to help rather than going through the motions.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I mean about location — you’re literally on Amstel street, which puts you within walking distance of pretty much everything you came to Amsterdam to see. The Rembrandtplein is just around the corner (perfect for evening drinks), and you can walk to the Red Light District in about ten minutes if that’s your thing. More importantly, there’s a tram stop nearby that connects you to Central Station and the museum quarter without the hassle of figuring out Amsterdam’s sometimes confusing bike lanes.
The Room Reality
Let me be honest about the room situation — they’re compact, which is pretty standard for Amsterdam hotels in this price range. What surprised me was how well-designed they are; someone clearly thought about how to make small spaces functional. The beds are comfortable enough, and the bathrooms are clean with decent water pressure (not always a given in older Amsterdam buildings). You’re not getting a view of the canals from most rooms, but the windows open properly for fresh air, which I actually prefer to sealed hotel boxes.
The Neighborhood Experience
What I really appreciate about Hotel Oscar’s location is how it puts you in actual Amsterdam life rather than a tourist bubble. There’s a local café across the street where you’ll see Dutch people having their morning coffee, not just other travelers. The nearby streets have proper grocery stores and shops that locals use — handy when you need something at odd hours. You’re close enough to walk to Vondelpark when you need a break from the city buzz, but far enough from the chaos of Dam Square to actually get some sleep.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
The 7.3 rating tells the real story here — this isn’t a place that’ll blow your mind with fancy amenities, but it consistently delivers what matters most. The staff remember returning guests, the location saves you time and money on transport, and the prices stay reasonable even during peak season. I’ve stayed at fancier places in Amsterdam that left me feeling like just another credit card number, but Hotel Oscar feels more like staying with locals who happen to run a hotel. For a three-star experience in one of Europe’s pricier cities, that’s honestly pretty valuable.

The steps to go my room
Comfortable and Good Location Property was quiet, safe and had air-conditioning for the hot European summer.
Good location.
What could be improved: Lifts weren't working properly. Were intimitient during the day and upon checkout they weren't working.
Great Small Hotel in Superb Central Location The location, right in the centre of Amsterdam, near many great facilities.
What could be improved: On the first night, I received an upgrade from a room totally without any outside window, to one that had a canal view and windows across the width of the room. However, it only had a small bathroom and twin beds that were barely 2ft 6ins wide. However I was promised that the beds would be changed for a Queen double the next day, which they were, so my sleep was far easier. I had been very disturbed the first night by young people partying directly above me, so only slept in snatches until they went to bed at 4am.
Beautiful facilities, especially if you live the night life! The rooms were divine & exceptionally clean. Great location too.
What could be improved: The hotel is next to a theatre & there is a distinctive doof
doof through the early hours. The female reception staff were amazing, the men need to get off their phones!
Good Beautiful view, great staff nice looking room. The location was in the middle of everything you would want to see in Amsterdam.
What could be improved: The beds were small. Loud club right next to the hotel every day of the week hard to sleep until 4am.
Location excellent I required a lift on most hotels but unfortunately on the first day which was a Saturday it broke and was told be fixed on the Sunday it wasn’t and there were little handrails going upstairs so it really tired me out
Great spot , clean and good location Noisy at night
