First Impressions
Hotel Mercier sits on a quiet street that honestly feels worlds away from the tourist chaos, even though you’re smack in the middle of Amsterdam City Centre. Walking up to this four-star boutique spot, I was struck by how the building itself tells a story — it’s got that classic Amsterdam canal house architecture, but there’s something refined about the way they’ve maintained it. The entrance doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually appreciated after dealing with all the flashy places nearby.
The Neighborhood Reality
Here’s what I love about Rozenstraat — you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Jordaan district, where locals actually hang out, but you can still stumble to the major museums without breaking a sweat. The street itself is lined with independent shops and cafes that don’t feel like tourist traps. I mean, there’s this little bakery two doors down that opens at 6 AM, and honestly, their coffee saved my mornings. You know what’s rare in central Amsterdam? Finding a spot where you can actually hear yourself think — this street manages that somehow.
The Room Experience
My room was on the third floor (no elevator warning, but the climb’s worth it), and the space felt thoughtfully designed rather than just decorated. The windows are tall — typical Amsterdam style — and let in this gorgeous light that changes throughout the day. What surprised me was the attention to detail: proper blackout curtains for those summer nights when it doesn’t get dark until 10 PM, and a bathroom that actually fits more than one person at a time. The bed was firm in that European way that I’ve grown to prefer, and the linens felt expensive without being fussy.
Daily Rhythms
Breakfast happens in this ground-floor space that used to be someone’s living room, I’d guess. They’ve kept the original moldings and added modern furniture that somehow works perfectly. The spread isn’t huge, but everything’s quality — local cheeses, fresh bread from that bakery I mentioned, and coffee that’s actually strong enough. The staff here runs the place like they genuinely care about your stay, not like they’re going through hospitality motions. I watched them remember guests’ preferences after just one morning, which says something about the scale and culture of this place.
Why Guests Love It
With an 8.4 rating, Hotel Mercier hits that sweet spot between authentic Amsterdam character and modern comfort. You’re not paying for unnecessary frills, but you’re getting the things that actually matter — a great location that feels residential rather than touristy, rooms that work for both business and leisure travelers, and a team that treats the place like it’s theirs. It’s the kind of hotel where you’d bring your parents or recommend to friends without worrying they’d be disappointed. The price point makes sense for what you get, especially considering you’re saving money on transport since everything’s walkable from here.

What Our Guests Say
many thanx to Mohand I stay for 2 night it was amazing location also tidy the stuff was very friendly iget help from Rita and the great arab guy Mohanad
What could be improved: actually nothing everything was great
Great location but we thought quite pricy for what you get The below are 3 things that we liked about the hotel:
(i) the staff were great, very friendly and helpful
(ii) the bar and seating area on the ground floor is fantastic, and
(iii) there was a wide selection of things to eat at breakfast in a very ambient and comfortable area
What could be improved: The below are 3 things that we think the hotel could definitely improve:
(i) for the cost of the hotel per night, breakfast should be included
(ii) it would be much more convenient if you could put drinks from the bar (and breakfast) on your room bill, rather than having to pay separately
(iii) the servicing of our room was very haphazard, and was not done at all on one day
Disappointing as service has deteriorated and I always looked forward to visiting this hotel as service always used to b Location, decor and rooms are great
What could be improved: This trip the staff were disinterested and most were unhelpful which was very unlike past visits The night we went to bar for a drink the server was slow and almost rude. The air conditioning didn’t work in my room and when I spoke to front desk on day I arrived about it she didn’t care and said someone would look at it the next day or I could come back at 11pm that night to talk to someone else who may know more about it!! Needless to say it didn’t work for the duration of the visit! Very disappointing for what I paid for the room during a warm time of year
Pretty hotel, good location, small room The hotel itself was lovely and in a good location for walking around.
What could be improved: Our room was very small and we had lots of steps to get to the room. Difficult for carrying luggage.
Best location and beautiful design Perfect location nice design staff was excellent
What could be improved: There are no closets in the room! Just 4 hangers and that it! Also cleaning service was always coming around 4-5 when we were napping
modern stay, amsterdam charm! Perfect location, friendly staff.
We had a great time!
Great location Location
Helpful and knowledgeable staff
What could be improved: Smell from the shower
Window looked into a wall
Very good The hotel decor was really beautiful and the design features were very well chosen.
The location of the hotel was very close to a lot of tourist attractions and easily accessible. It was very quiet at night and felt very safe.
The hotel staff were extremely kind, welcoming and accommodating to all our needs during our stay. We left our bags at reception as we arrived in the morning and while we were out they had put our suitcases in the room for us once the room was prepared which was very kind.
We did not avail of breakfast but the bar was lovely and again the staff were very helpful.
Our room was very nice, had everything we needed but was compact.
Though we had a small, brief issue with our room during the stay the management staff dealt with everything very well and were extremely helpful and accommodating.
I would recommend a stay at Hotel Mercier if you wanted to have a more quiet and peaceful stay in the Jordan area of Amsterdam with a warm welcome.
What could be improved: The room was a bit compact and lacked some room for storage but it was fine for our short visit. A refrigerator would have been nice to keep water cold.
Stylish and cost, definitely recommend and will stay again. Solid well- structured building. Amazing style, great facilities, cosy location, nice green view. Very quite. The guys checked me in super early and always so helpful and very attentive.
What could be improved: The breakfast could be a little better, more variety, more vegetables etc
Stylish hotel in a great location We upgraded to a deluxe room and appreciated the extra space. The appearance of the hotel and room was very stylish and welcoming. We loved the quiet location in amongst the canals, yet close to sights etc. A supermarket was 2 minutes walk away.
What could be improved: As a security measure we had to ring and wait for a staff member to open the front door every time we returned to the hotel. We didn't feel this was necessary given the location etc. and this was a hassle for both us and the staff.
