First Impressions
Hotel Library Amsterdam sits right on Prins Hendrikkade, and honestly, the name makes perfect sense once you step inside. This three-star boutique hotel has this cozy, literary vibe that immediately sets it apart from the typical Amsterdam accommodation. The building itself has character — you know, that old-world Amsterdam charm mixed with modern touches that actually work together.
Location & Neighborhood
The location is pretty fantastic, I’ll give it that. You’re in Amsterdam City Centre, walking distance from Central Station (literally just a few minutes), which means easy airport connections and tram access everywhere. What I really appreciate is that you can walk to the Red Light District if that’s your thing, but you’re not stuck in the middle of all that chaos. The canal ring starts just around the corner, and there are some genuine local cafés nearby that tourists don’t usually find.
The Room Experience
The rooms aren’t huge — this is Amsterdam, after all — but they’re thoughtfully designed. Each room carries through that literary theme with actual books and reading nooks, which sounds gimmicky but somehow works. The beds are comfortable enough, and the bathrooms are compact but functional. You’ll find decent storage space, which matters when you’re living out of a suitcase for a few days.
Amenities & Dining
There’s a small restaurant on-site that serves solid Dutch breakfast — nothing fancy, but fresh bread, local cheeses, and strong coffee to get you going. The staff actually knows the neighborhood well and will point you toward places locals eat rather than just handing you a tourist map. They’ve got decent Wi-Fi throughout, and there’s a little library corner in the lobby where you can actually sit and plan your day without feeling rushed.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about Hotel Library Amsterdam is that it doesn’t try too hard. It’s comfortable without being pretentious, central without being touristy, and the literary theme feels genuine rather than forced. The 8.1 rating makes sense — it’s not perfect, but it delivers exactly what it promises. If you want a base that feels more like staying at a well-read friend’s place rather than a generic hotel, this spot actually pulls it off.

What Our Guests Say
Very good The staff are really great and helpful. The room was spacious for Amsterdam standards.
What could be improved: The window facing other window in a box shape so we couldn't leave the window open during the night for airflow.
Great location, very helpful staff Staff very friendly and helpful. Close to central train station and town centre.
What could be improved: Sadly lift was not working, however staff took our bags up to our room.
Nice, centrally, located hotel. However, be aware that the elevator does not work, and it is very difficult to get lugga Very conveniently located to AMS Centraal. Coffee and tea served in the lobby.
What could be improved: Elevator did not work. Elevator also did not work last year either. Very bad. Very difficult for guests to negotiate steep, narrow stairs cases. Hotel should offer complementary breakfast to guests until elevator is fixed
Great location and staff. Comfortable beds Location
What could be improved: The lift was not working.
Great off-center hotel with perfect value for money The location is excellent - walking distance from almost everything and yet it was far enough to be really quiet. The reception offers free coffee, power outlets and reading/working space - perfect for your time before or after check-in. The room was tiny but had everything you'd want in it. Both the room and the hotel are very clean and tidy.
What could be improved: Booking the room I knew it is going to be small and indeed it was. It's perfectly sized for one person for 1-2 nights or if you are only going to sleep in it. And let's face it, with everything that Amsterdam has to offer, you're not going to be sitting in the room! Bathroom is tiny as well but you can manage.
Pleasant and very central Location, helpful staff
What could be improved: Size of room was very compact but for brief stay was sufficient
Great hotel, friendly staff and would definitely recommend. The hotel met most of my expectations. The location was slightly further out from the central station than I expected, but this is not a major issue.
What could be improved: N/A
Great location, friendly vibe, comfortable base. Great location and quirky design. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Loved the book swap and general vibe. Free tea and coffee in the reception. Able to leave bags safely while exploring.
Great location, a bit impersonal, not quite according to pictures. Location and size of rooms
What could be improved: Broken elevator, very steep stairs, no offered help with luggage and poor breakfast.
Superb Staff super friendly, free coffee and tea all day long, great location, fridge in the room.
