First Impressions
Hotel Fita sits on a quiet tree-lined street in Oud Zuid, and honestly, you could walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. It’s housed in one of those classic Amsterdam townhouses with tall windows and understated charm — no flashy signage, just a simple plaque by the door. The lobby is compact but welcoming, with polished wood floors and that particular smell of old buildings that’s been lovingly maintained.
Location & Neighborhood
Jan Luykenstraat is actually one of those streets locals appreciate but tourists often miss. You’re a five-minute walk from the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, but more importantly, you’re in a real residential area where people live their daily lives. The Concertgebouw is practically around the corner, and there’s a decent Albert Heijn supermarket two blocks away if you need basics. What I really like is that you can walk to Vondelpark in about eight minutes — perfect for morning runs or evening strolls.
The Rooms
Don’t expect huge spaces here — this is Amsterdam after all, where every square meter counts. My room was on the second floor (no elevator, heads up) and while compact, it felt thoughtfully designed. The bed was surprisingly comfortable for a three-star place, and they’d managed to squeeze in a decent-sized desk by the window. The bathroom is small but functional, with a proper shower that actually has good water pressure.
Daily Details
Breakfast happens in a cozy ground-floor space that doubles as a common area. It’s nothing fancy — continental style with good Dutch bread, local cheeses, and coffee that’s actually drinkable. The staff runs it more like a bed-and-breakfast than a hotel, which means they remember your name and genuinely seem to care about your stay. There’s no restaurant on-site, but honestly, with all the dining options in this neighborhood, you don’t need one.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s what works about Hotel Fita — it feels like staying at someone’s well-appointed home rather than a generic hotel. The building has character (you can hear the old wooden floors creak), the neighborhood is authentically local, and the price point makes sense for what you get. Yes, you’ll sacrifice some modern amenities, and if you have heavy luggage, those stairs might be challenging. But if you want to experience Amsterdam like a temporary resident rather than a tourist, this place delivers on that promise.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Everything. Historical typical Amsterdam property conveniently located to the Museum district and well connected to the Central station for the day trips. Very good breakfast with homemade very tasty pancakes.
What could be improved: Nothing about property to dislike, but city taxes on top of the overnight rate are outrageous.
Exceptional Location was great. Staff wonderful and very helpful.
Beautiful hotel in a great location We had a first floor room that was very spacious, comfortable and warm with a street view. A couple of minutes to the tram stop. The area has a lovely residential feel to it, even with a school next door; so welcoming and charming.
Having your accommodation for Amsterdam in these lovely tree lined streets makes the stay in the city much more pleasant than the old centre.
What could be improved: Nothing really. Maybe, consider replacing some of the very basic bedroom furniture with pieces that reflect the beauty and grandeur of the building itself.
A hidden gem in the Amsterdam museum district. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were amazing! The breakfast featured a nice selection of good food. I definitely would stay here again, as did other guests we met at breakfast.
What could be improved: Not a thing to complain about.
A good opportunity to visit Amsterdam and catch up with friends. It was well placed to visit museums and take canal cruises. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Staff cheerful, very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts excellent with plenty of choice. Dutch pancakes cooked freshly are to be recommended.
What could be improved: I requested rooms accessed by as few stairs as possible. We were put on the third floor accessed by a very slow and small lift.
Very good Location, breakfast, staff.
What could be improved: Nothing
Excellent location, clean and quiet Location was excellent, just a minute’s walk from tram and bus stops, including the airport bus! The three big museums and Concertgebouw were all within 5 minutes. Convenient store and supermarket are also within a few minutes’ walk.
The rooms are clean. The staff appear when you need them and they are very friendly and accommodating.
While the hotel sits between two schools and break times could be noisy, the area is very quiet at night and weekends.
What could be improved: My wife’s chief gripe is their high toilet seat. The hotel should consider keeping a low stool of sorts for use by short people.
The elevator is ‘moody’ as humorously described by the hotel. Your first press would just light up the button but bring no further action. One has to long press a second time until you hear some mechanical noise before releasing to get your ride.
One characteristic of almost all Amsterdam buildings are their narrow and twisty stairs. So unless you are fit and agile, don’t try.
We had a nice stay in Delft and this hotel made it complete. Location and helpfulness of staff. Breakfast was good.
The hotel location is very near to train stop and all the staff are kind and nice to help and answer questions. Breakfast is very good, all of food are handmade and very fresh.
Nice hotel in good location to sights. Great location to walk to sights very clean and comfortable. Staff was helpful.
What could be improved: We were on the lower basement floor which was by a kid’s playground so it was noisy in the morning. If you stay there ask to be on upper floors.
would be nice if rate included breakfast.
Very clean and comfortable. You can buy snacks and beverages. I would stay there again
