First Impressions
Hotel Espresso sits right on Overtoom, one of those busy Amsterdam streets that somehow manages to feel both lively and livable. The name actually makes perfect sense once you see the place — it’s compact, energizing, and gets straight to the point. I mean, you’re not getting a grand lobby with marble floors here, but there’s something refreshing about a hotel that knows exactly what it is.
The Neighborhood Scene
Oud-West is honestly one of Amsterdam‘s best-kept secrets for travelers who want to feel less touristy. You’re close enough to Vondelpark that you can actually jog there in the morning (if that’s your thing), and the Museumplein is just a pleasant walk away. What I really love about this area is how it transitions from the bustling Overtoom to quieter residential streets within a block or two. You’ll find proper Dutch cafés mixed with trendy spots, and the whole neighborhood has this lived-in authenticity that the city center sometimes lacks.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional — think modern European efficiency rather than spaciousness. The beds are actually quite comfortable, and they’ve done a decent job with the soundproofing considering you’re on a main street. Storage is limited, but honestly, if you’re planning to spend your days exploring Amsterdam rather than hanging around your hotel, it works perfectly fine. The bathroom is small but well-designed, with everything you need and nothing you don’t.
Practical Matters
This is a three-star place, so set your expectations accordingly — you’re getting solid basics without the frills. The staff is helpful when you need them, and they seem to know the neighborhood well enough to give decent recommendations. Wi-Fi works reliably, which is more than I can say for some pricier hotels I’ve stayed in. The building itself has character without feeling outdated, and there’s something to be said for a hotel that maintains its equipment properly.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Hotel Espresso — it delivers exactly what most Amsterdam visitors actually need. You get a clean, comfortable base in a great location without paying tourist-trap prices. The tram connections from Overtoom are excellent (you can reach Central Station or the Museum Quarter easily), and you’re surrounded by real Amsterdam life rather than souvenir shops. It’s the kind of place where you check in, drop your bags, and head out to explore, knowing you’ll sleep well when you return. For travelers who prioritize location and value over hotel amenities, this place just works.
Amsterdam hotels keep travelers close to cycling routes, floating flower markets, and tram lines to hidden gems.

What Our Guests Say
Superb great location to the museums I wanted to see. reasonable price. close to many restaurants.
What could be improved: would have been nice if they had breakfast, but I knew they didn't when I booked.
Nice stay nice people . Clean Close to everything
What could be improved: No ice available
Good Good location , close to supermarket and public transport
Very good The hotel was close to everything we needed. Trams were nearby. Staff was helpful and friendly and the room was small but clean and the beds were comfortable and we appreciated the air conditioning and fans after a long hot day of sightseeing
Comfortable, clean & great location. The reception staff were very helpful & friendly. The location on the #17 tram route to & from Central station meant there was excellent access to anywhere you wanted to go. The Rijksmuseum was not far away for a walk or by tram #3. Vondelpark also close by. Cafes for breakast nearby as well as a good selection of restaurants. There is a bit of street noise, but if you don't mind sleeping with closed windows, it is not too bad. The room I had was very comfortable in size & amenities and clean.
What could be improved: In the warm weather a lighter blanket or just top sheet would be good to have as the doona is too warm.
Superb location was excellent, everything was within walking distance
Location super, close to everything, clean and nice beds. Great location, clean, good beds and nice staff. We were 6 persons travelling together and had 3 rooms, we requested rooms close to each other which we got and we could check out later.
What could be improved: Would be nice having a coffee maker in the room.
Fantastic - would recommend Great location
What could be improved: More tea / coffee facilities in the room
Very good Clean, comfortable stay. Good value for money
