First Impressions
Hotel De Looier sits on a quiet side street in Amsterdam‘s historic Jordaan district, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. The building blends seamlessly with the surrounding 17th-century architecture — which is exactly what makes it special. This three-star hotel doesn’t try to scream for attention, but once you step inside, you’ll appreciate that understated approach.
Location & Neighborhood
The Derde Looierdwarsstraat location is actually perfect for getting a real feel for Amsterdam. You’re tucked away from the tourist chaos of Dam Square, but the Anne Frank House is literally a five-minute walk away. The narrow streets around here are lined with antique shops (the hotel’s name references the old leather market that used to operate nearby), cozy brown cafés, and those impossibly picturesque canal-side houses that make Amsterdam so photogenic.
What I really love about this spot is how walkable everything is — the Westerkerk bell tower looms just around the corner, and you can stroll to the famous Nine Streets shopping area in about ten minutes. The nearest tram stop connects you to Central Station and the museum district without any hassle.
The Room Experience
The rooms here are what you’d expect from a canal house conversion — compact but cleverly designed, with those characteristically steep Dutch stairs that make you grateful for the elevator (yes, they actually managed to fit one in). My room had original wooden beams and large windows overlooking the quiet street, plus enough modern touches to keep things comfortable without feeling sterile.
Don’t expect massive spaces — this is Amsterdam, after all — but everything you need is there, including decent Wi-Fi and a surprisingly good shower. The beds are comfortable, and the soundproofing works well enough that you won’t be kept awake by late-night revelers stumbling home from the Leidseplein.
Dining & Amenities
There’s no on-site restaurant, but that’s honestly not a problem in this neighborhood. You’re surrounded by some of Amsterdam’s best local eateries — from traditional Dutch fare at nearby brown pubs to excellent Indonesian food just a few blocks away. The hotel does serve a continental breakfast that’s perfectly adequate, though I’d recommend venturing out to one of the local bakeries for fresh stroopwafels and proper Dutch coffee.
Why Guests Love It
Hotel De Looier works because it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and can point you toward hidden gems that most tourists never discover. The 8.4 rating makes sense — it’s not trying to compete with the fancy canal house hotels, but it delivers exactly what it promises: a clean, comfortable base in one of Amsterdam’s most authentic neighborhoods.
You know what really sold me? Standing on that quiet street at night, looking up at the warm glow from centuries-old windows, you realize you’re experiencing Amsterdam the way locals do — not as a theme park, but as a living, breathing city.
Early hotels booking in Amsterdam secures light festival cruises, jazz club nights, and private cheese-tasting sessions.

What Our Guests Say
Superb The location is very convenient and the neighborhood is quiet. The room met all my expectations, and the bed was very comfortable. Checking in and out was very easy, and the staff are all pretty friendly. If I wanted to stay in a hotel, I would consider this one again.
What could be improved: I don't think I have any real complaints at this time. It was a nice time there
Very good Good transport links, easy access, helpful staff 24/7.
Comfy beds, clean room and facilities.
Perfect location for what we needed, quiet residential area but short walk to amenities and night life if we wanted.
What could be improved: Not a single complaint- didn't see any negative reviews until after we booked but saw no proof of anything once we got there. Glad I don't pay heed to haters!!
Enjoyable and comfortable stay. Lovely room, perfect for myself and my daughter. Walking distance across the canals to the trams, shops etc.
What could be improved: Nothing
Superb The location was great. The places we wanted and went o see were within walking distance.. The staff was knowledgeable of the directional sites.
What could be improved: Not very much.
Superb The central location and the tipic neighbourhood
Great location to stay. We had a short stay at this hotel. We arrived at the start of November so it wasn't too cold but all the Christmas lights were up which made for a great walk at night. The staff were excellent and helpful. Gave us some useful tips on how to go about Amsterdam. Comfortable bed in a large room. Just outside the centre of Amsterdam which is perfect for me and my partner. Literally 5 minutes in the centre , maybe less than that.
Great little hotel. Thanks for having us.
Tip for anyone looking to this hotel. There's a tram line that stops a minute walk from the hotel. And you're talking like €1 to hope on and off so.
We stayed for 2 nights and then the staff was very accommodating when we asked to stay a 3rd night. Would stay again. It was clean, good value for money, beds and pillows were comfortable. Room had lamps and outlets and shower was hot.
What could be improved: Nothing! It was exactly as advertised. Simple and perfect for young people just needing a safe place to sleep.
Good place to stay to see Amsterdam, everything in walking distance. Central location, comfortable room and very friendly staff.
Lovely boutique hotel with great staff. Great location within walking distance of all the Amsterdam attractions. Very friendly and helpful staff. Large comfortable bed and room very clean.
What could be improved: Basically nothing except some night time noise from the street outside but it is, after all, a capital city full of bars and coffee shops.
This was our second stay - I’ll definitely be back The staff are just delightful and it is in a slightly quieter part of the city which we loved
