First Impressions
Hotel D’Amsterdam Leidsesquare sits on a quiet side street just off one of Amsterdam’s busiest squares, and honestly, that positioning is half the appeal. You get all the energy of Leidseplein literally around the corner — street performers, late-night cafés, the works — but you can actually sleep at night. The building itself has that classic Amsterdam narrow-facade thing going on, wedged between other brick buildings like they’re all holding each other up.
The Neighborhood Advantage
What I really appreciate about this spot is how it bridges two worlds. You’re technically in Oud-West, which means you get that authentic neighborhood vibe with local bakeries and brown cafés scattered around. But Leidseplein is right there when you want tourist mode — trams in every direction, theaters, that whole scene. The Vondelpark is maybe a ten-minute walk, and I mean, you can’t put a price on having Amsterdam’s green heart that close when you need to decompress from all the canal-side wandering.
Room Reality Check
Look, this is a three-star place, so temper your expectations accordingly. The room I stayed in was compact — and I’m being generous with that word — but it was clean and had everything you actually need. The bed was comfortable enough, and there’s something charming about those small Amsterdam hotel rooms once you embrace the coziness. The bathroom was updated and functional, which honestly matters more than square footage when you’re out exploring the city most of the day.
Daily Rhythms
Breakfast happens in a small dining area downstairs, and while it’s not going to win any awards, it gets the job done. Standard European hotel breakfast — breads, cheeses, coffee that’s stronger than what you’re probably used to. The staff runs a tight ship here, and I noticed they actually remember your preferences after a couple days. There’s no restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re in Amsterdam — why would you eat hotel food when you’ve got incredible Indonesian places and brown café classics within walking distance?
Why Guests Love It
The real magic happens when you step outside and realize how perfectly positioned you are. Tram 1, 2, and 5 stop right at Leidseplein, so you can reach Centraal Station, the Museum Quarter, or the Jordaan without thinking twice about it. But here’s what the booking sites don’t tell you — some of the city’s best late-night spots are practically next door, and when you’ve had your fill of Amsterdam’s nightlife, you’re stumbling home to a quiet side street instead of fighting crowds on a main drag. For a three-star hotel in this location, it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense.
