First Impressions
When I first spotted HOMESTEAD Amsterdam tucked away in Noord, I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical — it’s not exactly where you’d expect to find a solid hotel. But honestly, that turned out to be one of its biggest strengths. The four-star property sits quietly on Wijkergouw, and while it might take you an extra few minutes to get oriented, you’re actually in one of Amsterdam‘s most interesting up-and-coming areas.
The Noord Experience
Here’s what I love about staying in Amsterdam Noord — you get to feel like you’ve discovered something most tourists miss. The area has this creative, slightly industrial vibe that’s completely different from the crowded canals in the center. You’re close enough to catch the ferry across to Centraal Station (it’s actually kind of fun), but far enough away that you can breathe a little. The hotel sits in a residential pocket, so mornings feel surprisingly peaceful for a city break.
The Room and Setup
My room was clean and well-thought-out, though not particularly fancy — which honestly matched my expectations for the price point. The design leans modern without trying too hard, and everything worked as it should. What impressed me was how quiet it stayed at night, even with windows open. The neighborhood doesn’t have much foot traffic, so you can actually get some decent sleep.
Getting Around
Look, I won’t sugarcoat it — you’ll need to plan your movements a bit more than if you stayed in the Jordaan or near Museumplein. But the ferry system is pretty efficient once you get the hang of it, and there’s something oddly satisfying about that short water crossing. Plus, parking is way easier here if you’re driving, which can’t be said for most Amsterdam hotels. The area has some decent cafes and a grocery store within walking distance, so you’re not completely isolated.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about HOMESTEAD Amsterdam is that it delivers exactly what it promises — no more, no less. The 7.5 rating feels spot-on to me. You’re not getting jaw-dropping amenities or Instagram-worthy interiors, but you are getting honest value and a chance to experience a different side of the city. If you’re the type who likes to venture beyond the obvious tourist zones and doesn’t mind a short commute to the main sights, this place makes a lot of sense. It’s particularly good for longer stays when you want to settle into a rhythm rather than just tick off attractions.
To book hotel in Amsterdam for canal-side views, travelers reserve early to pair museum mornings with brown café evenings.

What Our Guests Say
Beautiful rural setting but not worth the cost Very large and roomy, smeg fridge, chickens
What could be improved: Shared toilet, which was downstairs, very inconvenient for middle of the night visits. The loft has a shower, why couldn't they have also included a toilet? Also, the toilet was located right beside the downstairs room's bed with just a thin wall separating, I'm sure that was not pleasant for the guests in that room. And where there's chickens, there's roosters - cockadoodledo starting at 5 am 🤨.
Shower drain was completely clogged with some unmentionable gunk, no excuse for that.
Very good It's position in relation in getting into the city centre.
It was very quiet and we had a few good walks.
What could be improved: Because it's a shared toilet with the upstairs room every time someone uses the toilet the light comes on it woke me up. Needs to be a curtain on the window.
I have mixed feelings, as I'm sure the nice owners have good intentions The country feel, with chickens and a couple of nice dogs.
What could be improved: The old furniture seemed grubby, e,g, the dining table had cracks that who knows what lives there?
The joint toilet light could be seen from the room I was in, as there is a high window and no door on the bathroom. (strange)
For my tastes, I think the room I was in could do with a makeover using outside advice.
Location is not too far from the center, host is friendly and kind, landscape is excellent, animals birds, chickens, dog The Homestay is nice and quiet
What could be improved: Shared restroom
Good owners were very nice and the animals were precious.
What could be improved: it was way out of downtown although public transportation made easily accessible.
Absolutely wonderful! Such a cozy nest and felt safe and well cared! Thank you! Lovely location with lots of greens nearby. Beautifully decorated house. I loved the view from the large windows. So calming. The dogs and the chickens were very cute. The booklet was packed with great guides to the city.
What could be improved: It would have been better if the toilet was in the room ;)
Loved it, will recommend to others. Great location and the property is amazing. The place is very clean and tidy and modern.
What could be improved: Couldn’t access the cooker.
Really lovely place and people, great location and facilities, I would definitely go back! Lovely and homely
What could be improved: Could have done with either a door or a curtain to the bathroom
Superb We absolutely loved being able to ride bikes from the centre of Amsterdam to the accommodation through beautiful streets and along lovely canals. Our children loved the pets and animals and feeding the lamb and the chickens.
Perfect place to stay right outside of Amsterdam The room was very spacious and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was large and well equipped, there was a nice couch and table, and the kitchen area had everything we needed for a short stay. There were big windows around the whole room, but the space was still very private. Overall, the facilities were great. It took about 30 minutes to get into Amsterdam by public transportation but it was reliable and easy to figure out. It was nice staying outside of the city in a quiet area.
What could be improved: The room could have been a little bit cleaner. There were some dusty areas of the room and spider webs in the toilet room but overall the room was still pretty clean. There was no door leading to the bathroom which was weird.
