First Impressions
Holiday Inn – the niu, Fender Amsterdam caught my attention the moment I walked into the lobby — there’s something refreshingly modern about this four-star property that feels distinctly different from your typical Holiday Inn. The design has this cool, music-inspired theme (hence the “Fender” name), with guitar-shaped elements and vibrant colors that actually work without feeling gimmicky. You’ll find it in the Zeeburg district, which honestly took me a minute to locate on the map, but it’s part of what makes this place interesting.
Location & Getting Around
Zeeburg isn’t exactly central Amsterdam, but here’s the thing — it’s actually well-connected and you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos of the city center. The tram stop is just a few minutes’ walk away, and getting to Central Station takes about 15-20 minutes. I mean, you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough away that you can actually get some sleep at night. The neighborhood has this residential feel with some decent local spots for coffee and groceries nearby.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but smartly designed — they’ve really maximized the space without making it feel cramped. The bed was comfortable (always my main concern), and the bathroom was modern with a good shower. What I appreciated most was the attention to soundproofing; despite being near a main road, I barely heard any traffic noise. The music theme continues in the rooms with subtle guitar motifs, but it’s tastefully done rather than over-the-top.
Food & Amenities
The breakfast setup surprised me in a good way — it’s not just your standard continental spread. They had local Dutch options alongside the usual suspects, and the coffee was actually decent. The restaurant area doubles as a social space in the evenings, and there’s a small fitness area if you need to work off all that Dutch cheese. Parking is available on-site, which is honestly a relief if you’re driving in Amsterdam.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a boutique canal house hotel, but that’s sort of the point. Holiday Inn – the niu, Fender Amsterdam offers solid comfort with personality at a reasonable price point for a city where accommodation costs can get pretty steep. The 8.4 rating makes sense — it delivers what it promises without any major surprises, good or bad. If you want to experience Amsterdam without paying premium prices for a central location, and you don’t mind a quick tram ride to reach the main attractions, this place works really well.

What Our Guests Say
Superb Nice design, lovely helpful staff, the breakfast was good, always tidy. The place was clean, check in was easy, linen was good. Overall would recommend
What could be improved: Such a small recommendation but the bathroom door needs adjusting as it was very loud and creaky (room 305)!
Also, I some of the pillows and blankets might be due for a renew, they were a bit lumpy.
Good facilities, great view from our room, friendly staff and the option of late check out is a plus Very good hotel, the view from out room was beautiful and very comfortable
Nice hotel Beautiful and modern room with fascinating view
What could be improved: None
A great stay in a wonderful place! What could be improved: The only thing that could be slightly improved is the breakfast. It was exactly the same every day, and the selection wasn’t that big. I understand that expanding the breakfast options might be challenging, but maybe they could be changed more often (for example, instead of fried bacon, you could serve hot sausages). It would also be nice to have some kind of egg or vegetable salad — things like that.
Look no further if you want a relaxed stay in Amsterdam. Fantastic all round. Close enough to the centre for it to be easily accessible, but far enough out not to be in the melee of the city. Great spot on the quayside.
What could be improved: Can’t think of anything! The only issue for us was the price of the breakfast, but the manager has already written to say they’re looking at it to offer more options. Great service!
Very good I was expecting a 3 star. I walked into a 4 star.
What could be improved: Everything was lovely.
Superb The views, building and interior were nice. The bed was comfortable.
What could be improved: Vegan options in breakfast were lacking… The TV in our room wasn’t working.
Kate was brilliant, but charging £3.79 for hot water with no kettle or welcome water in the room is unacceptable, Holida Kate is without doubt the best member of staff at this hotel. She’s transparent, genuinely dedicated and a real credit to the place. Sadly, I can’t say the same about most of the night staff, who were frankly awful. The only reason I’m giving this hotel a good review is because of Kate — without her, it would be a definite “never again.”
What could be improved: was shocked to be charged £3.79 just for a cup of hot water (repeat, just the hot water which is around 100mL) for instant noodles. When I asked for hot water, I was told I could only get it from the coffee machine. I explained that I didn’t need tea or coffee, only water, but the night staff didn’t care and simply insisted that “nothing is free.” Honestly, being charged nearly £4 for plain hot water feels unreasonable and shows a lack of basic hospitality.
In a hotel, guests naturally expect access to essentials like drinking water or hot water without being treated as though they’re asking for something extraordinary. Charging such a price for what costs the hotel virtually nothing leaves a very poor impression. It makes guests feel unwelcome and undervalued, as though profit is being placed above even the simplest customer care.
I didn’t push further because I was too tired to argue, but the whole experience was disappointing and unnecessary. Small gestures, like providing hot water when asked, go a long way towards making a guest feel comfortable and respected — and sadly, this hotel failed to do that.
Superb Very friendly staff, beautiful and calm area, more than one way to get to by the public transport, AC on the room, good breakfast.
What could be improved: Too little hooks and hangers for clothes and wet towels.
A very pricey parking opportunity in the hotel.
Very pleasant. Super close to Amsterdam centre. Cheap Ubers to and from the city centre and a paid underground secure parking (usually available - need to scan the QR code to open the barriers and get in).
Breakfast at the hotel was excellent with plenty of choices and the river view bar has some excellent food and drinks options.
Staff is very helpful and comforting.
What could be improved: Nothing to say!
