First Impressions
Walking up to Guesthouse Prinsencanal 2 on Korte Prinsengracht, you immediately get that “this is the real Amsterdam” feeling. The building sits right in the thick of things — I mean, you’re literally steps from the main canals but tucked away on this quieter side street that locals actually use. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special rather than just another tourist spot. The four-star guesthouse has that authentic Amsterdam canal house vibe without trying too hard, you know?
Location That Actually Matters
Honestly, the location here is pretty incredible — and I’m not just saying that because everyone talks about Amsterdam being walkable. From this spot on Korte Prinsengracht, you can hit the Anne Frank House in about three minutes, and the Jordaan neighborhood (which is where you actually want to eat and drink) is right there. The couples who stay here seem to get it — they’re rating the location 9.7, and I totally understand why. You’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the chaos of Dam Square that you can actually sleep at night.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a renovated canal house — compact but thoughtfully designed, with those tall windows that let in surprisingly good light. You’re not getting a massive space here, but everything feels intentional rather than cramped. The bed was actually comfortable (not always a given in Amsterdam guesthouses), and there’s enough storage that you’re not living out of your suitcase. What I appreciated most was how quiet it stayed despite being in the city center — those old Amsterdam walls are thicker than you’d think.
Neighborhood Insights
This part of Amsterdam City Centre is where things get interesting. You’ve got the tourist essentials within walking distance, sure, but you’re also positioned perfectly for the stuff that makes Amsterdam worth visiting multiple times. The local brown cafés (traditional pubs) are scattered throughout the area, and there’s this great morning market on Saturdays just a few blocks away that most visitors never find. I spent a good chunk of my time just wandering the smaller canals nearby — Leliegracht and Bloemgracht are both gorgeous and usually less crowded than the main tourist routes.
Why Guests Love It
The 9.4 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it nails the fundamentals — great location, comfortable accommodations, and that authentic Amsterdam atmosphere that’s getting harder to find. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward things you wouldn’t discover on your own. For the price point and location, you’re getting exactly what you came to Amsterdam for — easy access to everything without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist bubble. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just visiting it.

What Our Guests Say
Super clean, convenient and friendly stay in a great location! We stayed in Rm 2 which had everything we needed, including a coffee maker, coffee and a selection of teas. The location is great, within walking distance of the Centraal train station and a happening street with plenty of cafés and restaurants, clothing stores and a couple of great yarn shops! We loved exploring the Jordaan on foot. Perhaps the best thing about our stay was Carlos, the owner/manager. He couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful! We felt like we were staying with family!
What could be improved: I found the stairs exciting, but they might be daunting for those with mobility issues.
Amsterdam was absolutely beautiful and the apartment matched our amazing experience in this beautiful city. The property was extremely clean, comfortable and had everything you needed to enjoy your stay. The bed was super comfortable.
What could be improved: There is nothing negative I can write about the property. Everything was amazing.
Exceptional In a nice neighborhood. Close to the train station. Carlos was very helpful. The apartment was clean and comfortable.
Absolutely perfect and highly recommended The location was excellent. Carlos the host was so helpful. Our arrival was late because of flight delays meaning it was midday before we arrived. Carlos was there to help with bags.
Entry to room is keyless and so easy.
Would stay there again.
What could be improved: Everything was great. The stairs were steep but once used to them were not a problem.
The blurb about the property on booking.com does mention them.
High end stay at a medium price It’s very clean, quiet and has all the amenities you might need. The neighbourhood is also very nice - lots of restaurants, supermarkets, cafes. The host was also very helpful and kind
What could be improved: The tv remote didn t always work well, but that s not really a problem
Excellent service and location EXCELLENT service provided by Juan Carlos. Very clean facilities and great location
What could be improved: Nothing
Very satisfactory Spacious and good bed and shower
What could be improved: Bit of street noise with windows open Duvet too warm for me.
Bus every few minutes to train station and good restaurants etc very close
A lovely place to stay to explore Amsterdam. A lovely place for a stay in Amsterdam. With public transport round the corner or just a 12 minute walk to the central station. We also made good use of the supermarket round the corner.
The room has WiFi, a good size tv, a very comfy bed and a lovely shower. We also were given some complimentary drinks on arrival (tea, coffee, orange juice and wine).
We were able to check in slightly earlier as the host messaged us to say when the room was ready. He also made sure to introduce himself when we saw him, give us some pointers of where to go and to make sure we knew to get in touch if there was anything we needed.
We had a lovely stay - thank you!! 😊
Exceptional Great location for exploring Amsterdam. Nice neighborhood with cute shops and restaurants.
Host, Carlos, was very accommodating. Place was very well stocked and clean. Location. Easy to walk to local sites. About a half mile from the train station. Loved the area!!
What could be improved: The steep stairs, but it was part of the description so knew what to expect.
