First Impressions
When I first pulled up to gouwzicht in Amsterdam Noord, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star spot tucked away on Broekergouw. The name literally means “view of the Gouw” in Dutch, and you know what? They weren’t kidding about that view. This place sits right along the waterfront, and there’s something genuinely peaceful about watching the boats drift by while you’re still technically in Amsterdam. The free parking right on-site was already a win in my book β anyone who’s tried to park in central Amsterdam knows that’s basically striking gold.
The Noord Experience
Amsterdam Noord has this interesting vibe that’s completely different from the tourist-packed center, and gouwzicht really captures that local feel. You’re about a 15-minute ferry ride from Central Station, but honestly, that little journey across the IJ becomes part of the charm. The area around the hotel feels more like a neighborhood where actual Amsterdammers live β there are local cafΓ©s, bike paths everywhere, and way fewer crowds taking selfies. I mean, you can actually hear birds chirping here, which is sort of remarkable when you think about it.
The Room
My room had this clean, modern Dutch design that didn’t try too hard to be trendy. The windows were huge β and I get why couples rate this place so highly because those water views are genuinely romantic, especially around sunset. The bed was comfortable enough that I actually slept in (rare for me when traveling), and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that makes you want to stay under the water longer than necessary. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything was at night β no trams rattling by or drunk tourists stumbling around outside.
Getting Around
The ferry connection is actually pretty brilliant once you get used to it. The boats run frequently, and there’s something oddly relaxing about that short ride across the water β it’s like a mini-decompression between the busy city center and your peaceful hotel. Plus, having a car here makes sense if you want to explore beyond Amsterdam. I drove out to some of the smaller towns nearby, which you’d never bother with if you were staying in the crowded center and dealing with all that traffic.
Why Guests Love It
The location rating of 9.2 from recent guests really tells the story here β this isn’t about being in the thick of everything, it’s about finding that sweet spot where you can enjoy Amsterdam without feeling overwhelmed by it. Couples especially seem to get it, probably because there’s something inherently romantic about being by the water with actual space to breathe. The staff genuinely cares about making sure you’re comfortable, and they know the area well enough to point you toward hidden gems you’d never find on your own. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra night just because you’re not ready to leave that peaceful waterfront setting.
Hotels in Amsterdam line historic canals, museum quarters, and buzzing neighborhoods filled with cozy cafΓ©s.

What Our Guests Say
A rural dairy farm but you can be in the centre of Amsterdam via the metro within about 30mins! Lovely rural apartment on a dairy farm but within easy access of the metro into Amsterdam (if your sat nav is more up to date than ours).
Our host Bea (pronounced 'Baya') was fantastic and so helpful.
The apartment was spacious with everything we needed and we were treated to fresh 'raw' milk straight from the cows in the shed 'next door'. In the mornings I enjoyed watching them walk across the road and off into their grazing field in the distance.
What could be improved: Can't think of anything we didn't like.
Amazing spot in the fields near Amsterdam Beautiful and calm spot just 10 min by car from Amsterdam. Bea is an incredible host. You will get real fresh milk daily from her cows. Also you can have the chance of visiting the farm.
Great place in the middle of the nature but yet so close from Amsterdam. - In the country side but so close to Amsterdam.
- breakfast really good
- 2 separates rooms (with kids perfect)
- Really clean
- Host is really nice
- Privacy
What could be improved: - Except a little bit of noise due to the farm there is nothing to complain about. (we knew it and we were fine with it)
Lovely apartment with friendly owners. Lovely rural setting watched the cows being let out in the mornings.
What could be improved: Only minor thing is quite a way from any public transport. They did have bikes that could be borrowed. Beautiful area however.
Perfect getaway! Bea was absolutely amazing. From the fresh milk, to feeding the baby cows, to enjoying the bicycles... Everything was just so relaxing and beautiful. Had a great stay.
What could be improved: -
Natural atmosphere with lovely host. The house is a part of the farm in the middle of the field.
The hosts are farm owners. They are very nice and gave us the kindly helps when we stayed
The unlimited raw milk from their farm is exceptional!
The house is on the ground floor.
The BEST place for relaxing from crowding Amsterdam.
Free parking is in front of the house. a short drive to park at P+R Noord and get the train to explore city center.
What could be improved: Kitchen equipment and dishes are dirty. We have to wash before use but that was not the problem.
Location is proper for who have a car. Quite far from public transportation.
We smelled the cow dung in front of the farm, but not in the house.
Very relaxing and comfortable stay with accommodating and welcoming hosts. Breakfast was very yummy and generous.
What could be improved: It could have been closer to transport although then it may not have been so beautifully rural.
Highly recommended We would like to thank Bea for hosting us! Everything was great: location, fresh air, nice clean apartments, fresh milk for breakfast from their own farm π
We highly recommend.
Looking forward to visiting you once again βΊοΈ

It was a lovely stay in a cosy little cottage next to a farm in the countryside just ca 30min by bike from the city cent The cottage is really cosy, a quiet place in the countryside and very well equipped. We cooked meals, and the included breakfast was very good with fresh eggs and milk, ham, cheese, jam, fruits, juice etc. The cottage was nicely decorated with flowers and absolutely adequate for 3 or 4 persons. We recommend this cottage for a visit to Amsterdam
What could be improved: If you want to cook meals, some bigger plates, a sieve, a salad bowl , another pot and sharp knives may be recommended.
Exceptional I was the first guest of this resort. A very nice, cozy, clean and comfortable house that was very good equipped with everything you need to stay, higher than normal standards of the same places. The owners are unbelievably kind and helpful and they host you as a friend. Yes, they have a farm over there and you are the only guest! Actually the building is a separated small house in their farm. I'll give it 12 stars!
(I wish you the best, dear Bea and Debbie)
