When I first pulled up to gouwzicht in Amsterdam Noord, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star spot tucked away on Broekergouw. The name literally means “view of the Gouw” in Dutch, and you know what? They weren’t kidding about that view. This place sits right along the waterfront, and there’s something genuinely peaceful about watching the boats drift by while you’re still technically in Amsterdam. The windows were huge — and I get why couples rate this place so highly because those water views are genuinely romantic, especially around sunset. The bed was comfortable enough that I actually slept in (rare for me when traveling), and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that makes you want to stay under the water longer than necessary. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything was at night — no trams rattling by or drunk tourists stumbling around outside.

Getting Around

The ferry connection is actually pretty brilliant once you get used to it. The boats run frequently, and there’s something oddly relaxing about that short ride across the water — it’s like a mini-decompression between the busy city center and your peaceful hotel. Plus, having a car here makes sense if you want to explore beyond Amsterdam. I drove out to some of the smaller towns nearby, which you’d never bother with if you were staying in the crowded center and dealing with all that traffic.
