First Impressions
Walking up to Four Elements Hotel in Amsterdam, you know you’re somewhere different. This four-star property sits right where Bert Haanstrakade meets Krijn Taconiskade in Amsterdam Oost — honestly, it’s one of those spots that feels like a local secret. The building itself has this clean, contemporary vibe that doesn’t try too hard, which I actually appreciated after seeing so many over-the-top hotel facades around the city.
The Neighborhood Feel
You’re in Amsterdam Oost here, which means you get that authentic Amsterdam experience without the tourist crowds crushing you every time you step outside. The area’s got this residential charm — I mean, you’ll see locals cycling to work in the morning and families heading to nearby parks. There’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels like actual Amsterdam rather than a theme park version of it. The tram connections are solid too, so getting to the city center or major attractions doesn’t require any complicated planning.
The Room Experience
My room was what I’d call thoughtfully designed — not flashy, but everything made sense. The four elements theme shows up in subtle ways throughout the space, though they don’t beat you over the head with it. What really struck me was how quiet everything was, especially considering you’re still in a major city. The beds are properly comfortable, and the bathroom setup actually gives you space to spread out your stuff, which you know can be a real issue in Amsterdam hotels.
Practical Matters
The staff here operates more like helpful locals than formal hotel employees, which works perfectly for the vibe they’re going for. Parking is available, which honestly solves a major headache if you’re driving in Amsterdam — I’ve seen people circle neighborhoods for an hour looking for a spot. Breakfast happens at their on-site restaurant, and while it’s not going to change your life, it’s solid and gets you ready for whatever Amsterdam adventure you’ve got planned.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Four Elements Hotel — it delivers on being a proper Amsterdam experience without the premium pricing of center-city properties. You get the residential neighborhood feel, decent amenities, and a base that actually lets you explore the city like someone who lives here rather than just another tourist checking boxes. The 8.2 rating makes sense when you consider it’s doing exactly what it sets out to do, just doing it well and without any unnecessary fuss.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Amsterdam before autumn brings golden leaves, pumpkin soups, and cozy canal reflections.

What Our Guests Say
Loved it! Convenient location for the wedding we attended nearby, nice room, loved the decor! Breakfast offered a lot of variety and was very tasteful.
What could be improved: The only downside was the light in the bathroom which automatically switches on when you are close, even when turning around in bed and there is no way of turning it off.
Very good This place is very good nice staff comfortable beds
What could be improved: I had to get to the center of Amsterdam in 30 minutes.
Been a long term guest of Four Elements at IJburg and always come back. Service, rooms and breakfast are always great. Great rooms and services
What could be improved: Our room didn’t have a view and was rather dim
The have to make aome thinking for the parking and for the air conditioner Nice hotel quiet place it not far from the center just 15 min buy car clean room
What could be improved: They just have 26 places for the car park if u have a car you have to park outside the hotel from 7 pm until 9 am it will be free parking and if you want to park ur car in the hotel u have to wait some one to check out to take his park and also the park off the hotel they charge you a money maybe 28 € pair a day.. and the room was very hot and the bed to much small
I had good sleep at this hotel. Clean room. However no English channel on the TV. The bed was comfortable.
What could be improved: Took me time to navigate the system.
Superb We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A decent breakfast as well. The check in staff were very nice and helpful.
What could be improved: Parking fee should be less.
Not long enough! Wish we could stay forever :) We absolutely loved the view, the atmosphere and the aesthetics. The staff were friendly and helpful and it was so easy to get into centraal via the 26 tram which is a 8 minute walk from the hotel across the harbour so it was an amazing scenic walk.
What could be improved: The room was a little underwhelming compared to the rest of the hotel, especially due to the cleanliness of the room. The balcony had cobwebs and cigarette butts surrounding it and the lights on the main wall looked like they had been ripped from the wall :(
Enjoyed my stay at this hotel and the receptionists were all friendly, professional and very helpful The hotel is very modern and I loved the effort they put in place to preserve the environment.
It was environmentally friendly 🥰.
What could be improved: They can do better in terms of cleaning the rooms.
Very good Location, cleanliness, comfort.
Nice quiet stay, good staff, pretty clean.could provide washcloths. Location has pluses and minuses: the location is out of the mainstream which could be considered a plus for lack of congestion. The minuses are lack of restaurants in the immediate area. The tram pickup is fairly near and the end of line is convenient for boarding and returning. The rooms provide decent views; some better than others.
What could be improved: The rooms (like most of Europe) are rather small despite the appearance/photos on the website. The bathroom light stays on far too long after motion detection is activated and you depart the room. (15 minutes or more)
