Floating B&B Amsterdam
First Impressions When I first spotted Floating B&B Amsterdam moored along the Durgerdammerdijk, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from a four-star houseboat hotel.
First Impressions
When I first spotted Floating B&B Amsterdam moored along the Durgerdammerdijk, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a four-star houseboat hotel. But stepping aboard this converted vessel in Amsterdam Noord immediately felt like discovering something genuinely special — not just another quirky accommodation, but a thoughtfully designed floating retreat that actually works as a proper hotel experience. The attention to detail throughout the property suggests this is far more than a novelty stay, offering guests an authentic maritime experience.
The Unique Setting
You know what’s brilliant about staying on the water? The gentle rocking motion that lulls you to sleep, and waking up to views that change with the light throughout the day. This isn’t some cramped boat conversion either — the space feels surprisingly roomy, with clever design that maximizes every square foot. The room I stayed in had these lovely porthole windows that frame the water perfectly, and honestly, watching the morning mist rise off the canal while having coffee was worth the booking alone. Every corner reveals thoughtful touches that enhance the floating accommodation experience.
Location & Getting Around
Now, Amsterdam Noord might sound remote, but it’s actually become one of the city’s coolest neighborhoods. The free ferry from Central Station runs every few minutes (I mean, it’s literally free — such a nice surprise), and the 15-minute journey across the IJ gives you this fantastic perspective of the city skyline. Plus, you’re staying in an area that feels authentically Dutch rather than tourist-central, which I really appreciated after spending days dodging crowds in the Jordaan. The neighborhood offers genuine local character and easy access to both traditional attractions and contemporary cultural venues.
Amenities & Comfort
What impressed me most was how they’ve managed to pack proper hotel amenities into a floating space. The breakfast setup is charming — served right on deck when weather permits, with local cheeses and fresh bread that actually tastes like something. There’s decent parking nearby too, which is honestly a miracle in Amsterdam if you’re driving. The staff clearly know their stuff about both the neighborhood and the city, giving recommendations that felt personal rather than scripted. Service standards match traditional hotels while maintaining the intimate atmosphere of boutique accommodation.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.4 rating, this place obviously hits the mark for most visitors, and I can see why couples especially love it here. There’s something inherently romantic about staying on the water — the privacy, the gentle movement, the way city lights reflect on the canal at night. It’s close enough to central Amsterdam that you don’t feel cut off, but far enough away that you get a proper break from the tourist intensity. The whole experience feels like you’re staying with friends who happen to own the coolest houseboat in the Netherlands. This is truly memorable accommodation that combines novelty with genuine comfort and hospitality.

What Our Guests Say
The owners were amazing and it was fun! It was away from the city. Gave a little bit of rest and it was nice to look around.
What could be improved: The accessibility to the train and bus can be a bit frustrating and time hours. Not knowing well the system makes it somewhat a challenge. Also you can’t see the whole view of the water you are inside of boats.
Awesome This was an awesome place to stay. It's my first time staying on a boat house and it feels very comfortable. The room has heating and comfortable bed, shower and stuff, also cooking stove and sink although I end up not needing to cook. Will definitely recommend :D
What could be improved: Outside is a bit damp but I guess that's how Amsterdam is like during this season.
Exceptional We loved our stay at the Floating B&B. The space had everything you could need and the bed was so comfortable. We enjoyed the location as it was a little outside of the craziness of Central Amsterdam and we rented bikes to get us around.
What could be improved: Nothing, the place was so wonderful.
Exceptional Very freindly host . Even gave us two little bottles of beer in fridge. There were two bikes we could use. Getting into town was easy . Either by tram or bus not too far away. We used uber taxis which was about €15 one way . The boat itself was very homely, and we had a great nights sleep each night, bed was very comfy. We would use it again for sure.
Fantastic host, great location. We loved our stay and would highly recommend. Great location.
It was a really pleasant stay in this place, we highly recommend it - super-duper friendly hostess
- cold local beer in the fridge
- tasty chocolate eggs
- bicycles included
- nice surroundings and nature
- cozy boat
- interesting villages with beautiful places nearby
- close to the supermarket with a cafe
- the boat was very clean, well-prepared
- nice 80s volvo design of the interior
- special bonus - radio tape recorder in the "wall"
- very comfortable place to sleep
- ducks in front of the windows
What could be improved: - no bus station nearby
- you should be ready to spend some time to get to the centre (but this is OK if you like bicycling)
Amazing little boat near nature but with easy access to Amsterdam I had an amazing time. When I first booked, I thought I might be spending a work vacation on the boat. However, I came to the conclusion that I needed to take advantage of the opportunity to just rest and relax. I did yoga, meditation, journaling, and went on long walks and bikes. The city is easily accessible by bike, but I spent most of my time out and around the dike, where it was calm and beautiful. The boat was quite comfortable, in my opinion. I slept extremely well, and I felt safe.
What could be improved: Nothing to complain about.
We're Staying on a Boat🎶 The location was wonderful with easy access to the city. It was very cosy with lots of rugs and candles. To top it all off the owners were lovely and welcoming.
What could be improved: Staying in the boat means facilities like shower and toilet are different to a usual hotel. They're well-maintained and clean, but take getting used to.
Exceptional Great experience, clean and cozy, very relaxing quiet area. Not far by bike from the center.
Superb Staying on a boat was something different. Away from busy Amsterdam.
What could be improved: B&B was a bit misleading
