Floating B&B Amsterdam
First Impressions I'll be honest — when I first heard about Floating B&B Amsterdam, I thought it might be some gimmicky tourist trap.
First Impressions
I’ll be honest — when I first heard about Floating B&B Amsterdam, I thought it might be some gimmicky tourist trap. But pulling up to this three-star houseboat on Durgerdammerdijk in Amsterdam Noord completely changed my perspective. The thing is actually moored on the water, gently swaying with the rhythm of the canal, and there’s something instantly calming about hearing that soft lapping of water against the hull.
The Floating Experience
You know what struck me most? The room genuinely feels like you’re on a boat — not in some themed hotel trying too hard to be nautical. The wooden floors creak pleasantly underfoot, and through the portholes, you’re watching actual canal life unfold. I mean, I woke up to see a family of ducks paddling past my window, which honestly beats any city view I’ve had in Amsterdam. The space is compact but cleverly designed, with built-in storage that makes perfect sense once you remember you’re literally floating.
Amsterdam Noord Discoveries
Here’s something most visitors don’t realize — staying in Noord actually puts you in one of the city’s most interesting neighborhoods. Sure, you’ll need to take the free ferry across to the main part of Amsterdam (it runs every few minutes), but that short ride becomes part of the daily rhythm. The area around the B&B has this authentic, lived-in feel that you won’t find near Dam Square. There’s a local café about a ten-minute walk away where locals grab their morning coffee, and the whole district feels refreshingly unhurried.
Practical Floating Life
The owners clearly know what they’re doing — this isn’t their first time hosting people on water. The shower has excellent pressure (something I always worry about on boats), and there’s proper heating that keeps things cozy even when Amsterdam’s weather turns moody. Parking is actually available nearby, which solved a major headache for me since driving in Amsterdam proper is basically impossible. They’ve got all the essentials covered, from decent Wi-Fi to a small kitchenette if you want to grab groceries from the Albert Heijn down the road.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this place has a 9.4 rating for good reason — it delivers something genuinely different without sacrificing comfort. You’re not roughing it; you’re having an experience that most Amsterdam visitors never get. The gentle motion of the water becomes surprisingly soothing (I slept better than I have in months), and there’s something special about having breakfast while watching the canal traffic start its day. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a secret that other travelers are missing out on.

What Our Guests Say
The owners were amazing and it was fun! It was away from the city. Gave a little bit of rest and it was nice to look around.
What could be improved: The accessibility to the train and bus can be a bit frustrating and time hours. Not knowing well the system makes it somewhat a challenge. Also you can’t see the whole view of the water you are inside of boats.
Awesome This was an awesome place to stay. It's my first time staying on a boat house and it feels very comfortable. The room has heating and comfortable bed, shower and stuff, also cooking stove and sink although I end up not needing to cook. Will definitely recommend :D
What could be improved: Outside is a bit damp but I guess that's how Amsterdam is like during this season.
Exceptional We loved our stay at the Floating B&B. The space had everything you could need and the bed was so comfortable. We enjoyed the location as it was a little outside of the craziness of Central Amsterdam and we rented bikes to get us around.
What could be improved: Nothing, the place was so wonderful.
Exceptional Very freindly host . Even gave us two little bottles of beer in fridge. There were two bikes we could use. Getting into town was easy . Either by tram or bus not too far away. We used uber taxis which was about €15 one way . The boat itself was very homely, and we had a great nights sleep each night, bed was very comfy. We would use it again for sure.
Fantastic host, great location. We loved our stay and would highly recommend. Great location.

- interesting villages with beautiful places nearby
- close to the supermarket with a cafe
- the boat was very clean, well-prepared
- nice 80s volvo design of the interior
- special bonus - radio tape recorder in the "wall"
- very comfortable place to sleep
- ducks in front of the windows
What could be improved: - no bus station nearby
- you should be ready to spend some time to get to the centre (but this is OK if you like bicycling)
Amazing little boat near nature but with easy access to Amsterdam I had an amazing time. When I first booked, I thought I might be spending a work vacation on the boat. However, I came to the conclusion that I needed to take advantage of the opportunity to just rest and relax. I did yoga, meditation, journaling, and went on long walks and bikes. The city is easily accessible by bike, but I spent most of my time out and around the dike, where it was calm and beautiful. The boat was quite comfortable, in my opinion. I slept extremely well, and I felt safe.
What could be improved: Nothing to complain about.
We're Staying on a Boat🎶 The location was wonderful with easy access to the city. It was very cosy with lots of rugs and candles. To top it all off the owners were lovely and welcoming.
What could be improved: Staying in the boat means facilities like shower and toilet are different to a usual hotel. They're well-maintained and clean, but take getting used to.
Exceptional Great experience, clean and cozy, very relaxing quiet area. Not far by bike from the center.
Superb Staying on a boat was something different. Away from busy Amsterdam.
What could be improved: B&B was a bit misleading
