First Impressions
Walking up to Flinder Amsterdam on Droogbak street, you immediately know you’ve found something special. This four-star boutique hotel sits right in the thick of Amsterdam City Centre, and I mean really in the heart of it — you’re literally steps away from everything that makes this city tick. The building itself has that classic Amsterdam charm, but there’s something refreshingly modern about how they’ve approached the whole experience.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about location in Amsterdam — everyone claims to be central, but Flinder actually delivers on that promise. You’re on Droogbak, which honestly couldn’t be more perfectly positioned if you tried. The canals are right there, the main shopping streets are a two-minute walk, and you can easily stroll to the Red Light District or Dam Square without breaking a sweat. What I really appreciated is that couples seem to get this — they’ve rated the location 9.8 for romantic getaways, and after staying here, I totally understand why. There’s something about being able to wander back to your hotel after dinner without dealing with trams or taxis that just makes the whole trip feel more relaxed.
The Room Experience
The room design strikes this nice balance between Amsterdam’s historic character and contemporary comfort. You’re not getting some cookie-cutter chain hotel experience here — the spaces feel thoughtfully designed, with enough personality to remind you where you are. The windows actually open (which sounds basic but trust me, it matters), and if you’re lucky enough to get one of the canal-facing rooms, well, you’ll spend way too much time just watching the boats go by. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, which is pretty much what you’d expect in the city center.
What Sets It Apart
What really impressed me about Flinder is how they’ve managed to feel both intimate and professional at the same time. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — like, really knows it — so when you ask for restaurant recommendations, you’re getting insider tips, not just the tourist spots everyone else suggests. The property has earned that excellent 9.8 location score for good reason, but it’s not just about being central. It’s about being central in a way that feels authentic to Amsterdam, if that makes sense. You’re staying where locals actually live and work, not in some sanitized tourist bubble.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.3 rating, guests clearly connect with what Flinder is doing here. I think it comes down to this — they’ve created a place that feels distinctly Amsterdam without trying too hard. You’re not paying for unnecessary frills, but you’re getting exactly what you need for a great stay in one of Europe’s most walkable cities. The location means you can experience Amsterdam the way it’s meant to be experienced — on foot, discovering things as you go, with a comfortable base to return to when you need to recharge. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it.
To book a hotel in Amsterdam during King’s Day, visitors plan ahead to balance orange-clad street parties with quiet Jordaan strolls.

What Our Guests Say
Great location and host Host and her doggy are amazing.
What could be improved: Warning about stairs… it’s very high up and up 3 flights I think
Exceptional Our stay was really nice! Mary Grace is an amazing host, the location is great (right in the centre and you can reach everything by foot) and the room is clean, lovely and part of a traditional house (so the stairs are very steep, but this is normal for a traditional building in amsterdam).
Wonderful. Wonderful host, perfectly located.
What could be improved: Nothing to complain about. We will be definitely coming back.
Amazing stay and amazing host! Flinder Amsterdam was the perfect stay to end our trip around Europe - fantastic location, clean, comfortable, and extra little touches made our stay that extra special (fridge, water, snacks, tea, coffee). Mary-Grace was a very friendly and accomodating host, she was easy to communicate with and gave us great tips for our stay in Amsterdam. Meeting Moby (doggie) was a bonus! Overall we had a fantastic stay and highly recommend to other travellers!
What could be improved: Nothing at all!
Loved the Flinder house!! Perectly located to train and hustle and bustle of Amsterdam!! Owner, Mary, is so sweet and gr Beautiful older building authentic to the area with original beams.
What could be improved: Nothing! It was perfect!
Great location, friendly host (Mary) and the cutest dog Moby, who really made our stay special. Mary had a lot of thoughtful touches like snacks, mini fridge, and Nespresso maker.
A cheerful host in a well maintained typical Amsterdam residence. The location was spot on. Close to the canals for leisurely walks admiring the architecture. We revisited the rijksmuseum early in the day to avoid the crowds. Jordann area was safe and lots of bars, restaurants. The room was airy and comfortable with roof line metres above. The room facilities was as described. The hot water flowed well in the shower. Mary Grace was attentive and personable. Moby the shitzu watchdog was a treat. Snacks were readily available. Nothing was too much trouble.
What could be improved: As described there are 3 levels of steep stairs which are challenging for the aged. Be aware large bags may pose a problem getting them both up and down.
We highly recommend. A stay at Flinder Amsterdam is a treat you will always remember .The location is very convenient The room is large ,sunny and extremely set up. . The shower has great hot water pressure. The view is charming . The bed comfortable . High ceils with historic beams. Coffee maker, microwave , tv.
