First Impressions
Walking up to Empire suites roof terras on Keizersgracht, you’ll notice it doesn’t scream “look at me” like some hotels do. It’s tucked into one of Amsterdam’s most elegant canal streets, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. The building has that classic Dutch elegance — you know, the kind where the narrow facade hides something much more impressive inside.
Location & Neighborhood
This four-star spot sits right in the heart of Amsterdam City Centre, which means you’re literally surrounded by the good stuff. The Anne Frank House is basically around the corner, and you can walk to the Jordaan district in about five minutes. What I really love is how you’re on one of the main canals but far enough from the Leidseplein chaos that you can actually get some sleep at night. The trams are close enough when you need them, but you’ll probably end up walking everywhere because it’s all so close.
The Suite Experience
Here’s where things get interesting — these aren’t just regular hotel rooms. Each apartment feels more like staying in a friend’s really well-appointed place. The spaces are surprisingly spacious for Amsterdam standards, and most come with a proper kitchen setup. I mean, you’re probably not going to cook elaborate meals, but having a fridge for your Albert Heijn haul and coffee facilities that aren’t terrible makes a difference. The design strikes this nice balance between modern comfort and respecting the building’s canal house heritage.
That Rooftop Terrace
Okay, so the name gives it away, but the roof terrace really is something special. You get these amazing views over the Amsterdam rooftops and canals — it’s the kind of spot where you end up spending way more time than planned. During summer evenings, it’s perfect for drinks, and even in cooler months, they’ve got it set up so you can still enjoy being outside. It’s shared space, but never felt crowded when I was there. Actually, it’s become one of those Instagram spots locals haven’t completely discovered yet.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.6 rating, this place clearly does something right, and I think it comes down to the details. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — they’ll send you to that great Indonesian place on Haarlemmerstraat instead of the tourist traps. The building itself has character without being stuffy, and you get that authentic Amsterdam experience without sacrificing comfort. Plus, having apartment-style accommodations means you can live a bit more like a local rather than just passing through. For the location and what you get, it feels like discovering something most visitors walk right past.

What Our Guests Say
The most perfect place in Amsterdam Insane location, so so so nice! Looking out the window each day was so special. Thijs was an amazing host and bonus points for carrying our luggage! Greatly appreciated!
What could be improved: Nothing
Exceptional Brilliant stay, lovely room in a great location. Would definitely come back.
A pleasure to stay here Superb communication with the hosts and lovely to meet them. As I had booked the penthouse suite they assisted with my luggage. Walking distance to lovely areas and very central. Hosts have thought about many small things to make the stay as comfortable as a 5-star hotel. It was a pleasure to stay here.
Lovely Amsterdam Stay Beautiful top floor apartment in Amsterdam provided us with a spacious stay in a perfect location. The bathroom was well appointed and we loved the private roof top deck for a special last night toast.
What could be improved: While we were okay with many stairs to reach the apartment, others should consider. We would definitely stay again regardless of the stairs.
10/10 the place to stay. Absolutely loved the apartment and the terrace, this was my 10th trip to Amsterdam so wanted to make it special and it was up there with one of the best. Loved the size compared to most in Amsterdam, the bath tub was so big too! The terrace was lovely and private, very big comfortable bed, coffee machine with lots of pods along with a stacked mini fridge of drinks which was complimentary and very much appreciated! Beautiful building, good location, only met the housekeeper as the hosts were away but she was very polite, absolutely loved my stay and will 100% come back again
What could be improved: There was nothing we didn’t actually like a such, we loved everything about it. The only suggestions we would make would maybe be for a bit of a bigger tv or to relocate it to above where the desk is instead so it’s a bit closer to the bed, and maybe some sort of covering on the terrace. But still wouldn’t say they need changing, just polite suggestions. Overall absolutely made up with our stay and will recommend
Exceptional The accommodation was wonderful and was I'm sure this was a manor house. So regal, elegant & beautiful. The owner Theijs has decorated the space with lush bedding, towels, fresh flowers, a fridge filled with drinks, tea, coffee and lovely bathroom amenities. Our bags were carried up many flights of stairs and also on check out, which was flexible. The rooftop is large and a beautiful sunny spot. The apartment is quiet, on the canal and close to everything. We feel extremely lucky to stay in this grand manor. I can't say enough! Beautiful, this made Amsterdam my new love.
A great place to stay in Amsterdam! Wonderful location. Felt safe. Great host. Pictures were accurate. Very quiet and a little out of the crowds while still being a short walk to everything. Good coffee, restaurants, and supermarket close by. Great local tips from the host.
What could be improved: It takes a while for the aircon to cool the room in Summer but it on a little early did the trick.
We had a great stay in this place. Very comfy large bed and huge bathroom with a view!! The large bed and huge room with views
What could be improved: Nothing…it was great!
Perfect location, so quiet! Excellent location, easy to walk anywhere, comfy bed, host was easy to communicate with and gave us some helpful tips, little mini bar with a few drinks was nice, nice big space to relax in.
What could be improved: The last flight of stairs up was a challenge but no deal breaker, once you’re there all good!
Excellent accommodation in a lovely neighbourhood. The owner met us at the property. He was very accommodating and responsive to your questions. Helpfully letting us drop our bags off before check in and holding onto them after we checked out. We also loved the views of the canal. We watched the world go by frequently.
