Walking into Element Amsterdam, you immediately notice how different it feels from typical chain hotels. The hotel sits in Zuideramstel, which honestly took me a minute to pronounce correctly, but the location works really well. You’re about 15 minutes by tram from Amsterdam‘s city center, which means you avoid the tourist chaos while still having easy access to everything. The neighborhood has that authentic Dutch residential feel — you know, the kind where locals actually live and work rather than just posing for Instagram photos.

The Room Experience

My room was surprisingly spacious for European standards, and I mean that in the best way possible. The bed was genuinely comfortable (not just “hotel comfortable”), and there’s this little kitchenette area that actually makes sense — full-size fridge, proper sink, even a dishwasher. The bathroom design caught me off guard too; they’ve got this rainfall shower that has serious water pressure, which you don’t always get in four-star properties.

Amenities That Actually Matter

The fitness center stays open 24/7, which saved me during jet lag recovery — sometimes you need to work out at weird hours, and they get that. There’s also this grab-and-go market in the lobby that stocks proper snacks and drinks, not just overpriced tourist junk. The restaurant serves breakfast until 11 AM on weekends (thank you), and their coffee is actually decent, which honestly surprised me given how particular the Dutch are about their coffee.

Free parking is included, which saves you a fortune in Amsterdam, and the staff genuinely seems to know the area well — they gave me restaurant recommendations that locals would actually go to. It’s the kind of place where business travelers and tourists both feel comfortable, which isn’t easy to pull off. You’re getting solid value without the pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
