First Impressions
Walking up to Dream Hotel Amsterdam on Vijzelstraat, you’d honestly miss it if you weren’t looking — and that’s actually part of its charm. This three-star spot sits right in the heart of Amsterdam City Centre, tucked between the kind of narrow buildings that make you wonder how they fit so much character into such tight spaces. The entrance is understated, almost boutique-like, which immediately sets it apart from those cookie-cutter chain hotels you see everywhere.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I mean about location — you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Rijksmuseum and about the same to Rembrandtplein. But more importantly for day-to-day stuff, there’s a decent Albert Heijn supermarket just around the corner, and you know what? That matters when you want to grab breakfast or snacks without paying hotel prices. The tram connections are solid too — line 16 and 24 run right down Vijzelstraat, so getting to Central Station or out to the neighborhoods is pretty straightforward.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact — I mean, this is Amsterdam, so that’s expected — but they’ve actually thought about how to use the space. The bed was comfortable enough, and there’s decent natural light from windows that look out onto the street (which can get a bit noisy, but honestly, it’s part of the Amsterdam experience). What surprised me was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, enough outlets near the bed, and a bathroom that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in an airplane.
Food and Common Areas
The restaurant downstairs serves breakfast and dinner, nothing fancy but solid enough. I actually preferred grabbing coffee and pastries from the café across the street — better coffee, half the price, and you get to people-watch. The hotel’s common areas are pretty minimal, which works for a three-star place that knows what it is.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Dream Hotel Amsterdam isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that 8.2 rating reflects exactly that. It’s clean, the staff actually seems to care about helping you out, and the location means you can walk to most of what you came to Amsterdam to see. For the price point, you’re getting exactly what you need without paying for amenities you probably won’t use anyway. If you want to spend your money on museums, food, and maybe a canal cruise instead of an overpriced hotel spa, this place makes a lot of sense.
To book hotel in Amsterdam for canal-side views, travelers reserve early to pair museum mornings with brown café evenings.

What Our Guests Say
Excellent stay. Just what we needed. Would use this hotel again. Comfortable bed, clean and tidy. Staff were very pleasant and welcoming.
What could be improved: The shower water didn’t stay contained in the shower area
Good Great location
What could be improved: Our room could have been better. One of the windows had a broken handle so we couldn’t open it, and the curtains were only wide enough to cover one of the two windows. Room was missing a tv remote
Lovely cleanly room Exceptionally clean! I don’t think I have ever stayed somewhere this clean. Bathroom area was lovely
What could be improved: Our bed was a little uncomfortable. The room was on a slant so kept feeling like I was falling out of bed. But not much can be done with these types of buildings. Our toilet seat was broken and did pinch.
Good choice hotel! The location
What could be improved: Didn’t have a lift and we were in third floor
Nice stay in Amsterdam Great location, 20-25 min walking to central station.
Clean room, easy Check-in.
We could leave our luggages here still late afternoon.
Well recommended.
What could be improved: The only thing we did not like that the window is too high and cannot be opened.
For one night stay it was OK
Ok, but wouldn’t stay there again. Location
Very clean
Helpful friendly staff
What could be improved: The photos on Booking.com, and those on the hotel’s website, are misleading.
Amazing location in Amsterdam city centre. Great value. Location is in walking distance to a lot of the main tourist attractions and shopping. Hotel room was modern. Check in was quick and staff was helpful with luggage as there were stairs only to the higher floors. Comfortable bed. Did not have noise issue being on the 2nd floor.
What could be improved: There was a drainage smell when I got there. But I let the water flow with a little bit of shampoo and it went away. Room is a bit small, but expected from Amsterdam city hotels.
Lovely place to stay in The staff were friendly and helpful. Liked talking with them.
The property at a great location close to so many attractions which is really nice.
It’s clean and quiet.
What could be improved: Just the price wise that’s all.
Perfect location and good value for money Perfect location, comfortable and good value
Superb Modern and roomy place near everything
What could be improved: Plenty of room
