First Impressions
Walking into the DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam – NDSM Wharf, you immediately sense you’re somewhere different. This isn’t your typical canal-side Amsterdam hotel — it’s planted right in the heart of NDSM Wharf, this former shipyard turned creative hub that feels like Amsterdam’s answer to Brooklyn. The lobby has that modern industrial vibe going on, and honestly, it works perfectly with the surrounding area.
The NDSM Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying in Amsterdam Noord — you’re getting the real deal without the tourist chaos. NDSM Wharf is where locals actually hang out, with its weekend flea markets, art studios, and that massive festival ground where they host everything from techno raves to food festivals. The free ferry to Centraal Station runs every few minutes, so you’re literally 15 minutes from the Rijksmuseum or Red Light District, but you get to escape back to this quieter, edgier side of town.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the IJ waterway — and I mean, the views are pretty spectacular, especially at sunset. Everything feels fresh and well-designed, with those signature DoubleTree beds that are actually as comfortable as they claim. The bathroom is spacious enough that you’re not bumping elbows, and there’s decent storage space, which matters when you’re unpacking for more than just a weekend.
Dining and Amenities
The restaurant downstairs serves solid international food, though honestly, I’d recommend venturing out to explore the local spots scattered around NDSM — there’s this fantastic brewery called Oedipus that’s walking distance away. What impressed me more was the four-star service throughout the hotel; the staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward the good stuff that’s not in every guidebook. They’ve got a decent fitness center too, and parking that won’t bankrupt you — something you’ll appreciate if you’re driving in Amsterdam.
Why Guests Love It
Look, if you want to stay right on a canal and stumble out your front door into tourist central, this isn’t your spot. But if you’re curious about what Amsterdam actually feels like when you peel back the postcard layer, NDSM Wharf delivers. You’re staying in a neighborhood that’s genuinely cool, not manufactured-cool, and the DoubleTree gives you that reliable comfort level while letting you explore somewhere most visitors never see. Plus, taking that ferry back and forth becomes part of the experience — there’s something nice about having that little water crossing to decompress between the city buzz and your quiet corner of Noord.

What Our Guests Say
It’s a welcoming place and the area got even more developed than last time. Every thing was beautiful. Front desk are now very warm and helpful
What could be improved: WiFi was slow
Good Stay but Ferry Timing Is a Hassle The stay was good. The rooms were small but clean, and the reception team was very helpful. The cookies they offered were delicious! The property is in a good location, but if you’re arriving by train, it can be a bit difficult as you need to take a ferry to the other side. The main issue is that the ferry operates only until 11:30 PM, so traveling after that becomes inconvenient.

Very good Location, it was away from the madness and a quick free ride across the river to all the action. The breakfast they offered was excellent.
What could be improved: Price was on the high side
Great stay - we will be back Great location, right beside the NDSM ferry terminal and some lovely bars and restaurants
Lovely reception area and our room was fab!

Great, comfortable stay in a cool area! We had a wonderful 6-night stay at the Hilton while attending a tattoo convention next door. From the moment we arrived, the check-in process was seamless, and the staff, both day and night, were consistently warm and welcoming. We were delighted to be upgraded to a larger room, and the evening team would offer us fresh cookies when we came back for the night!
Our room was cleaned daily, with coffee and tea restocked too. They also have really nice shampoo, conditioner, shower gel etc - we’ve stayed at some 5 star hotels recently that don’t even provide those! One standout moment was when we came back late one evening needing dinner after the kitchen had closed. One of the chefs who was still around kindly prepared us a sushi platter to take up to our room - it turned out to be the best sushi I’ve had on this side of the globe!
The location is excellent as well. A free ferry takes you to Amsterdam Central Station in just 10–15 minutes, and there are supermarkets and cafés nearby. We highly recommend visiting the graffiti museum just around the corner. The hotel also offers bikes for hire, which is a great way to explore the city. And if you’re looking for a good breakfast or coffee spot, Bagels & Beans (also just around the corner) serves delicious bagels and fantastic coffee!
