First Impressions
Walking up to De Stijlkamer on Van Ostadestraat, you might actually walk right past it if you’re not paying attention — and that’s sort of the point. This four-star boutique spot doesn’t scream for attention with flashy signage or doormen in fancy uniforms. Instead, it sits quietly on one of Amsterdam’s most charming residential streets, looking more like a beautifully renovated canal house than a traditional hotel. The entrance feels intimate, almost like you’re being welcomed into someone’s stylish home rather than checking into another generic property.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re in De Pijp, which honestly feels like the real Amsterdam without all the tourist chaos. Van Ostadestraat runs parallel to the much busier Ferdinand Bolstraat, so you get easy access to great cafés and shops but can actually sleep at night. The Albert Cuyp Market is literally a five-minute walk away, and I mean the kind of walk where you’ll stop three times because you’ve spotted another interesting little shop or café. Couples seem to get this area immediately — it’s got that perfect balance of local life and romantic canal-side strolls.
The Room Experience
The room design here is where De Stijlkamer really shows its personality. Each space feels carefully curated rather than mass-produced, with clean lines and thoughtful details that nod to Dutch design heritage without being heavy-handed about it. The windows are generous — important in Amsterdam where natural light can be precious — and the beds are genuinely comfortable, not just hotel-comfortable. What struck me most was how quiet everything felt, despite being on a city street. The sound insulation is excellent, which you’ll appreciate after a day of navigating Amsterdam’s bustling center.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here have a different pace than at bigger hotels. There’s no massive breakfast buffet or crowded dining room, but honestly, that works in your favor. You’re steps away from some of Amsterdam’s best local breakfast spots — the kind of places where baristas know their craft and pastries come from actual bakeries, not industrial kitchens. The staff seems to understand this too, offering recommendations that feel genuine rather than scripted. They’ll point you toward the good stroopwafel stand at Albert Cuyp or suggest which brown café serves the best bitterballen in the neighborhood.
Why Guests Love It
The location score of 9.5 makes perfect sense once you’ve spent a day here. You can walk to Museumplein in about fifteen minutes, catch a tram to Central Station easily, but still feel like you’re experiencing Amsterdam as locals do. The property sits in what’s genuinely one of the city’s most livable neighborhoods — not just tourist-friendly, but actually livable. Couples especially seem drawn to the intimate scale and authentic neighborhood feel. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next Amsterdam trip before you’ve even checked out, already imagining which local spots you’ll revisit and which new corners of De Pijp you’ll explore.

What Our Guests Say
Very good We were able to drop our cases early, our host carried them up to our room while we were out. It was clean and the bathroom was modern. We had a kettle and coffee pod machine with assorted pods, tea, sugar, milk capsules and cocoa?
There was a fridge :-) Key was in a lockbox. Communication with host was good (whatsapp).
De Pijp is rammed with eateries. 4 mins walk to metro. 20 mins walk to Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum.
What could be improved: It was a little bit seedy, not much effort put in to the decor. Its our first time in Amsterdam and its freakishly expensive. We thought this place was expensive, but its cheap for Amsterdam. Would we stay again? Yes!
Superb It was good area to stay, near to city center, great food right next to the room, close to grocery store, metro. Apartment was clean, hosts let us to leave our luggage at the end of stay so it was easier to spend the remaining time in Amsterdam.
What could be improved: utensils such as a fork, knife, plate would be useful to add
Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen gerne wieder. Tolle Lage , Nahe Centrum . Sehr schöne Gastronomie in unmttelbarer Nähe .
What could be improved: Leiderr kein TV
