First Impressions
Walking up to De Pijp Boutique Hotel on Sarphatipark, I’ll admit I almost missed it — and that’s actually part of its charm. This three-star property sits quietly along one of Amsterdam’s most peaceful park squares, looking more like an elegant townhouse than a typical hotel. The entrance is understated in that effortlessly cool Dutch way, and you know what? That sets the tone perfectly for what’s inside.
The Neighborhood Feel
Here’s the thing about De Pijp — it’s where actual Amsterdammers live and hang out, not just tourists rushing between coffee shops. You’re literally steps from Sarphatipark, which honestly feels like the neighborhood’s living room where locals walk their dogs and kids play football. The Albert Cuyp Market is maybe a five-minute stroll away, and I mean the real deal market where you can grab fresh stroopwafels that are still warm. The Heineken Experience is close too, but honestly, I’d skip that tourist trap and just grab a beer at one of the brown cafés nearby.
Inside Story
The hotel keeps things simple but thoughtful — you won’t find a grand lobby or marble everything, but there’s something refreshingly honest about the place. Each room feels more like staying in a well-designed apartment than a generic hotel box. The staff actually seems to know the neighborhood, which is rarer than you’d think in Amsterdam these days. They’ll point you toward the good Indonesian place around the corner or tell you which tram to take without that rehearsed tourist-information tone.
What Works Daily
Look, breakfast isn’t going to blow your mind, but it covers the basics with decent coffee and fresh bread — honestly, that’s all you need before exploring the city. The real win here is having Sarphatipark as your backyard; I found myself grabbing coffee from downstairs and sitting in the park more mornings than not. Plus, you’re connected to the rest of Amsterdam without dealing with the chaos of the city center. The tram connections from here actually make sense, and you can walk to the Rijksmuseum in about fifteen minutes through some pretty decent neighborhoods.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
De Pijp Boutique Hotel works because it doesn’t try too hard. You get a clean, comfortable place to sleep in one of Amsterdam’s most livable neighborhoods, without paying Jordaan prices or dealing with Red Light District noise. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re staying in Amsterdam rather than just visiting it — and that’s worth something, even if the thread count isn’t hotel-magazine perfect.

What Our Guests Say
Very good Our son loved the arcade place downstairs & the location of the hotel was perfect. It is close to the trams, cafes & albert cuyp market.
What could be improved: The staircase felt very steep and the room got so warm.
Awesome hotel in a great location All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay! The arcade room was also a super cool and unique part of this stay. Lots of great machines and made for lots of fun for something to do on the rainy days. The location is great as De Pijp is a nice area and the hotel is right along a main street that is close to transportation as well as a park, the Albert Cuyp street market, and other nice bakeries and shops.
What could be improved: In our quadruple room with bunk beds setup, there wasn't much extra space so was a bit crammed in the corner with our suitcases and backpacks for 4 of us but we did that to keep the path in front of the beds clear. The way the shower is designed, water can end up running across the bathroom floor so might need to use an extra towel to put on the floor.
Excellent location and worth the money I saw other reviews mentioning that the rooms were tiny. But they were sufficient.
Our room was at the back of the hotel overlooking a beautiful garden and it was very quiet. The location is excellent for nightlife, restaurants, and public transportation. We will definitely be staying there again.
What could be improved: Nothing. Everything was good and somewhat better than expected.
Superb The arcade room was cool! The rooms were clean. Staff was friendly.
What could be improved: The room we got for 4 was dark (Wallpaper is dark) and main light wasn’t as bright
Heart of Amsterdam Location, staff, quirky
What could be improved: Nothing
Superb The position was great, the staff were super kind (always greeting me with a smile, thoroughly appreciated that) and the bed was one of the best I've ever slept in ;)
What could be improved: Having no wall to divide the bathroom with the rest of the room. Besides that, everything was great, truly ;)
Loved the hotel, staff and room. Defo recommend for gamers or people who enjoy themed hotels. The room was really nice and clean. We came quite early before check-in and they still accommodated us. The lounge had some fun activities to do, and our room had multiple consoles (switch, xbox360, ps4, and another console) you could borrow games through the front desk. Front desk staff spoke multiple languages (dutch, english and spanish from what we needed) and were very polite and helpful.
What could be improved: The deluxe rooms were on the ground floor so be aware that your window is directly viewable from the garden but there are 2 curtains available to accommodate that.
Very good Location is amazing, very close to everything. Style of the hotel is cool. Friendly staff
What could be improved: The single room is really single 🙂
Superb The concept is great and it is very well done -- it feels like being in a gaming museum, but one in which you live in and can play all the consoles. And the staff are really great; we had an excellent time, thanks guys!
