First Impressions
De Jonker Urban Suites sits on a quiet stretch of Plantage Middenlaan, and honestly, you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking. The building has this understated charm that feels very Amsterdam — no flashy signage, just elegant simplicity. When I first walked in, the lobby struck me as refreshingly modern without trying too hard, which immediately set it apart from some of the stuffier places I’ve stayed in the city.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot in Amsterdam — you’re technically in the city center, but it doesn’t feel like tourist central. The Plantage district has this lovely residential vibe, with tree-lined streets and actual locals going about their day. You can walk to the Artis Zoo in about five minutes (perfect if you’re traveling with kids), and the botanical garden is practically next door. The Anne Frank House and Dam Square are maybe a 15-minute stroll, but you get to escape the crowds when you come back.
The Suites
The word “suites” isn’t just marketing speak here — these are proper apartment-style setups. My room had a separate living area that actually felt livable, not like an afterthought. The kitchen came fully equipped, which saved me a fortune on breakfast and late-night snacks. I mean, Amsterdam isn’t exactly cheap for dining out, so having the option to cook was genuinely useful. The design leans modern with warm touches — think clean lines but not cold or sterile.
Amenities & Service
For a four-star place, De Jonker keeps things straightforward but does them well. There’s no fancy spa or elaborate gym, but the staff knows their stuff about the neighborhood. When I asked about bike rentals (because, you know, Amsterdam), they had solid recommendations and even suggested quieter routes through the Plantage area. The on-site restaurant serves decent food, though I’d say the real draw is having that kitchenette space to do your own thing.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about this place is the balance — you get the space and independence of an apartment rental with the reliability of a hotel. The parking situation is actually manageable here, which anyone who’s driven in Amsterdam will appreciate. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a few days and feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it. The 7.7 rating makes sense to me — it’s solid, comfortable, and honest about what it offers without any pretense.

What Our Guests Say
We would stay here again as we couldn't fault it What could be improved: We had an issue with the QR code for the door, he kept saying that's it's been emailed to me and I still didn't get it but we got it sorted pretty quickly
Good The apartment is spacious and suitable for 4 people, with the convenience of having two bathrooms. Everything was clean, but there was some noise from the corridor and the entrance door.
Close to tram and the zoo Great spot for a solo or couple
What could be improved: The entry - you have to have a phone
Very good Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.
Superb Always love staying here when we visit Amsterdam. Great location and facilities, lovely area and aesthetic room/building.
Lovely location, rooms super spacious - kitchenette is fab, bed super comfy! Rooms very high and spacious, original tiles beautiful in the room
What could be improved: QR code means if your phone dies you are screwed, no USB outlets other than slow outlet in TV.
Very good Great place for couples . I recommend it
What could be improved: QR code was not working for the main door we had to call and fix it up
Lovely part of Amsterdam, less crowded The location is great
What could be improved: It was a bit too tight. Check in is too late
It was great The location is fantastic—peaceful yet well-connected. You're not right in the hustle and bustle of the city center, but still just a quick tram ride away. It’s situated right across from the zoo, where I even enjoyed my morning coffee with a view of the flamingos! 🦩 Grocery stores are also just a short walk away, making everything super convenient.
What could be improved: We experienced a slight delay receiving the QR code for entry, as the room wasn't ready upon arrival. I had to call the property, but thankfully, the issue was resolved within 10 minutes.
The kitchen could have been a bit better equipped with essentials.
Unfortunately, our last night was disrupted by a group of teenagers having a party in the unit above, which made it difficult to get a good night's sleep.
Lovely place to stay in Amsterdam Everything except we didn’t get single beds in one of our rooms.
What could be improved: Having to share a double bed with a friend.
