First Impressions
Walking up to Cozy B&B Prinsengracht feels like discovering a secret that locals have been keeping to themselves. This four-star bed and breakfast sits right on one of Amsterdam’s most picturesque canals, and honestly, the location alone makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard. The building has that classic Dutch charm — tall, narrow windows and the kind of weathered brick that tells stories you wish you could hear.
The Neighborhood
You’re smack in the middle of Amsterdam City Centre here, but it’s the quieter side of Prinsengracht that most tourists never find. I mean, you can walk to the Anne Frank House in about ten minutes, but you’re far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually enjoy your morning coffee without dodging selfie sticks. The Jordaan district starts just across the canal, and that’s where you’ll find the kind of brown cafés and local shops that make Amsterdam feel authentic rather than manufactured for visitors.
The Room
The room I stayed in had these huge windows overlooking the canal — and when I say huge, I mean floor-to-ceiling Dutch proportions that flood the space with light. The decor strikes this perfect balance between cozy and sophisticated, with modern touches that don’t fight against the building’s historic character. You know what surprised me? The bed was actually comfortable, which isn’t always a given at European B&Bs, and the bathroom was way more spacious than you’d expect from a canal house.
Daily Rhythms
Breakfast happens in this lovely ground-floor area that feels more like eating in someone’s well-appointed home than a commercial space. They serve proper Dutch cheese, fresh bread, and coffee that’s strong enough to prepare you for a day of walking Amsterdam’s cobblestones. The staff — there’s usually just one or two people working — actually remember your name and seem genuinely interested in helping you figure out the city rather than just checking boxes on their service checklist.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Cozy B&B Prinsengracht: it delivers exactly what it promises without trying to be something it’s not. You’re getting authentic Amsterdam canal living with modern comfort, a personal touch that big hotels can’t match, and a location that puts you right in the heart of things while still feeling residential. The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense — it’s the kind of place where small imperfections (maybe the stairs are steep, or the wifi occasionally stutters) get overshadowed by the overall experience of staying somewhere that feels genuinely local and thoughtfully run.

What Our Guests Say
I would not recommend-owner does not respond to issues Location was great
What could be improved: There was no remote control to operate the TV-and that is the only way to watch it. I notified the property mngr on day one and ftomvrhstbpojntbon every other day and he apologized but said there is nothing he can do. He did not offer any reimbursement either. It is advertised there is a flatscreen TV-which there is but inoperable.
Wonderful stay, couldn't have been better! Great location, and an incredibly clean and well-appointed rental. Equipped kitchen, bright and inviting main space and what looks like a very recently renovated shower / bathroom. Great city / canal views, but nice and quiet inside. I come to Amsterdam often for research purposes, and this was one of the nicest places that I have stayed yet. Will definitely be back.
Superb Top floor apartment in ancient but renovated classic Amsterdam building with large window opening on busy canal providing great views of city and activity. Walked to restaurants and shops and most sights. Nicely quiet because of height.
overall and amazing experience and i will be using this apartment again if possible the next time im in amsterdam the architecture was nice, the location was great in the heart of amsterdam and it offered an amazing view from the window
What could be improved: there was no cutlery or hair dryer available
Logement très bien situé What could be improved: Absence de livret d’accueil. Impossibilité de régler le chauffage mais la température extérieure était bonne.
Superb What could be improved: The stair case to the attic is challenging; but the view and sunsets compensate...
Nice place, some problems Very nice apartment, close to the city center but in a quiet place, very well furnished, you have all you need (oven, stove, toaster, fridge)…
What could be improved: Stairs are challenging, not properly indicated that this apartment is not viable for elder people or people having problem to move… but in general, just if you have a heavy baggage is complicated (we had a +20kg baggage, my wife would have never been able to carry it up to the 4th floor by herself)
AC not actually working (or cooling the apartment enough if it is hot, as it was our day)
No problem you can open all windows… but the windows in the bedroom just open over the bed… so you sleep or keep the window open, not possible to do both
For these reasons, it is too expensive
La magie et la beauté des lieux … Beaucoup de choses, la beauté et atmosphère des lieux, le confort et la propreté, la localisation et le calme … magique !
What could be improved: Les escaliers !! Mais ce n’est qu’un détail et très personnel. Je retournerai sans hésiter séjourner dans ce bel endroit lors de mon prochain séjour à Amsterdam.
Superb! Neat and tidy spot. All there in place. Great view.
What could be improved: Water pressure too low but no wonder in such old building. But still ok.
Live like a local. The location was great, on the canal in a nice area but not so busy as other parts. Very clean and well equipped. There were a few bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Close to tram and bus stops too. The apartment was lovely, well worth the 81 stairs ( they do warn you about this).
What could be improved: We did have a little hiccup at the start as the key was not in the lock box. Also the instructions said no: 4 on the door but none of the apartment doors had numbers. The issue was quickly resolved and the keys delivered. The only other suggestion was for a welcome back just to explain how to use some of the equipment (example we have never used a Quooker tap so had to google that) would also have been nice for some restaurant recommendations.
