First Impressions
ClinkMama sits right in the heart of Amsterdam’s old city center, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. This three-star spot has that laid-back hostel vibe but with more privacy than you’d expect. The building itself is quintessentially Amsterdam — narrow, tall, and squeezed between other canal-side structures on Valkenburgerstraat.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Red Light District and about the same to Dam Square, which means you can stumble back easily after exploring Amsterdam‘s nightlife. What I really appreciated was being close to the Jewish Quarter — there’s this authentic local feel once you step away from the tourist crowds. The Nieuwmarkt is just around the corner, and that’s where you’ll find some genuinely good cafés that aren’t overrun with tour groups.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — they’ve clearly figured out how to maximize every square inch. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in Amsterdam), and there’s decent storage space for your stuff. The shared bathrooms are clean, though you might wait a few minutes during peak hours. What surprised me was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re smack in the center of everything.
Common Areas & Amenities
The communal spaces are where ClinkMama really shines. There’s a decent-sized lounge area where people actually hang out and chat — I ended up making plans with other travelers for the next day just by grabbing coffee there. The kitchen is well-equipped if you want to save some euros by cooking, and there’s always someone around to give you local tips. They’ve got reliable WiFi throughout, which honestly saved me when I needed to sort out my next booking.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the Ritz, but for what you pay and where you are, it’s a solid choice. The staff actually seem to care about helping you make the most of your Amsterdam stay — they’ll point you toward the good stroopwafel spots and away from the tourist traps. I mean, you’re paying three-star prices to sleep in one of Europe’s most expensive cities, and you’re doing it right in the historic center. The mix of solo travelers and small groups creates this nice energy where you can be social or keep to yourself, whatever suits your mood.

What Our Guests Say
Superb the space and kitchen
What could be improved: The room was small and no windows
Very good The four person dorm room was nice - compact but had what you needed. The beds had their own lights and plug sockets. The kitchen had everything you needed to make a good meal. The lockers in the room meant you had somewhere to keep your belongings. The neighbourhood felt safe. And there were supermarkets around the corner. About 20min walk to the train station.
What could be improved: The shower just had a button to operate - you couldn't set the temperature and it just seemed to fluctuate from hot to cold and back again. There were no hooks in the bathroom to hang anything. Also the hook next to the bed was broken.
It’s definitely worth quality for money Located near Central station, there are some grocery shops nearby, that is very comfortable, very good cleanliness
What could be improved: Toilets are quit close to sink, so sometimes it’s not comfortable
Superb Very very nice for clean and all things was perfectly
Fun, close to city centre friendly and helpful staff ! Beautiful cozy and functional
What could be improved: Shower lacked temperature adjustment
Nice stay Vibey look and feel with friendly staff. Very comfortable bed.
What could be improved: Room was warm and I was not sure how to adjust the temperature in the shower.
Nice clean but pricey for solo traveler Nice facilities good staff. Nice rooms. Next to river.
What could be improved: Ok location. But not worth it for money little spicy.
Overall it was good, didn’t face anything that would be categorized as too bad. It is near the centraal station, felt safe and the staff were okay (didn’t stay too much to notice anything anyway) but would definitely go again.
What could be improved: Maybe for future options they can consider having a bathroom in the room, it was crazy and a bit uncomfortable meeting men in the bathroom. But maybe I’m just too reserved.
Very good Common area was beautiful and fun. Close to the central canals was nice
Thanks Mama! Cute dorm, loved the cafe/bar, location somewhat near bus stops is convenient
What could be improved: Random little noises here and there make it hard to exist without headphones if you're sensitive to noise.
