First Impressions
Walking up to Canal view suite on Singel canal, you’ll immediately understand why this spot works so well. The building sits right on one of Amsterdam’s most photogenic canals, and I mean literally — you’re looking out at houseboats, historic facades, and that perfect Dutch light reflecting off the water. It’s a four-star property, but honestly, the location feels more premium than that rating suggests.
The Space Itself
The apartment setup here is what really sets it apart from typical hotel rooms. You get a proper living area with large windows facing the canal, and the kitchen is actually functional — not one of those tiny hotel kitchenettes that’s more for show. I appreciated being able to grab groceries from the Albert Heijn around the corner and make coffee the way I like it. The space feels lived-in rather than sterile, which works perfectly in a city like Amsterdam where you want to feel like a local.
Location Perks
Being on Singel puts you right in the heart of the old city without the chaos of Damrak or Kalverstraat. The Bloemenmarkt is maybe a three-minute walk, and you can easily stroll to the Nine Streets shopping area or catch a tram to the museum district. What I really loved was the morning routine — opening those canal-facing windows with my coffee and watching Amsterdam wake up below.
The Details That Matter
The 8.4 rating makes sense when you stay here. The Wi-Fi actually works well (crucial if you’re working remotely), and the shower has proper water pressure — small things that can make or break a longer stay. There’s no on-site restaurant, but honestly, you’re surrounded by great cafés and brown pubs, so it doesn’t matter. The building itself is historic, which means some quirks like steep stairs, but that’s part of the Amsterdam experience.
Why Guests Love It
This place hits that sweet spot between hotel convenience and apartment independence. You get daily housekeeping and hotel-style service, but with the space and freedom to actually live a bit. The canal views aren’t just a marketing gimmick — they’re genuinely lovely, especially in the evening when the lights start reflecting on the water. For the price point in central Amsterdam, you’re getting solid value and a location that most tourists pay premium rates just to visit during the day.
Hotel in Amsterdam reservations surge before tulip season, so smart travelers lock in houseboat views months ahead.

What Our Guests Say
It’s a cute Airbnb style property I like the proximity to the Central Station. It’s a lovely place and a cute suite by the canel.
What could be improved: I don’t like the stairs. It’s narrow. I don’t recommend travellers expecting a hotel service/elevator. It’s more of an Airbnb style property. I carried my massive suitcase up to the 3rd floor. If you travel light or you don’t mind it, go for it.
Excellent room in a great location. It was very clean and comfortable and a great location.
What could be improved: The stairs were very narrow but didn’t cause an issue for us.
Great stay in great location Very central and close to Amsterdam Central Station.
Shops close by.
Bars and restaurants close by.
Nice area for walks.
What could be improved: Very steep stairs at property which could be an issue for some people.
Small but sufficient. Lovely view of canal! Great except we had to ask for t-towels etc and there was no boiling water for a cup of tea! A small thermos was offered as The system was broken.
Never mind, the place was lovely and very friendly and brought our cases up and down 3 flights of stairs. Small but sufficient!
Small but Perfectly Formed and Located Superbly located on one of Amsterdam's grandest canals only a few minutes walk with your bags from Centraal Station, this comfortable, spotlessly clean and very nicely refurbished property not only has lovely views out onto the canal but is quietly located within three to 30 minutes of very pleasant walking to everything you might want to see in the city.
However, if you must, a number of tram routes run conveniently along a nearby street.
Although the apartment itself is on a quiet and relaxing stretch of Singel, there are dozens of busy cafes, restaurants and bars in the cluster of attractive streets in the immediate area.
Basically, it's perfect for a few days stay and the host is friendly and helpful.
Sure, as others have commented, it's at the top of a narrow and steep flight of stairs but if that's a problem for you then I'm afraid it rules out pretty much every canal-side property in the centre of the city and a large percentage of others besides.
I would happily stay here again.
What could be improved: As always for short stays, it really would be useful if accommodation could provide some milk sachets to go with the tea and coffee.
I can understand why it was sealed-up (the railing was a bit low it's quite a long drop) but it was a pity that the main door onto the Juliette balcony could not be opened.
It's hair-raisingly expensive but that's Amsterdam for you these days and you could probably say the same for London, New York and Paris.
Very good View
What could be improved: 3 flights of stairs. Small stairs, dirty carpet
Brilliant room in a brilliant location Whenever we rang the doorbell someone answered
What could be improved: To open the door to the Juliet balcony
WOW factor room with an amazing host in a prime central location! The owner greeted us and was super friendly and extremely helpful. The property was exceptionally clean with a light and airy ambience and although small in size, perfect for what we required. Bed was super comfy with really soft bedding, had a fab night's sleep and I could have stayed in the shower for hours with the large rainwater shower head. When we woke up, we made a coffee, opened the curtains and watched the world go by through the large window. The location was equally amazing, close to train station therefore very easy access from the airport into the centre of Amsterdam with all amenities almost on the doorstep of the property. Wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed the property more... :-)
What could be improved: If you are looking for constructive feedback, in my opinion the communal stairwell would benefit from a refresh as first impressions count. I would have liked a full length mirror somewhere in the room and perhaps a small dressing table/desk area perhaps in the space between the French doors and the head of the bed instead of the side tables. Also, did not see any emergency evacuation procedure (something spotted by me friend, who works in H&S) but perhaps missed this as we only stayed one night... otherwise the premises did have the WOW factor for us and the host was truly amazing.
Peaceful comfortable oasis. Location was perfect had a gorgous view over a canal and was quiet but a street away from all the action. Felt very safe and secure. Communication from Roos was prompt and great.
What could be improved: We had two big suitcases with us and there wasn't much room to put them anywhere. Rooms are small in Amsterdam so space is always tricky so I'm not sure how to manage this! We only stayed overnight so not so much of a problem but if for longer it would be hard to manage.
The stairs (as mentioned in other reviews - so not a surprise) are not for the faint hearted we are fit and strong but I wouldn't recommend if you have big suitcases and are not able bodied.
Fabulous. Perfect for our needs.
