First Impressions
Walking up to Canal View Apartment on Marnixstraat, you immediately get that “this is the real Amsterdam” feeling. It’s not tucked away in some tourist bubble — you’re right in the thick of things in Amsterdam City Centre, with locals cycling past and the hum of actual city life all around you. The building has that classic Dutch charm without trying too hard, and honestly, the location alone makes this four-star place worth considering.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re genuinely in the heart of everything, but Marnixstraat itself isn’t one of those crazy touristy streets where you can’t move for crowds. You can walk to the Anne Frank House in about ten minutes, hit the Jordaan district for some proper local vibes, or wander over to the museum quarter without breaking a sweat. The Leidseplein nightlife scene is close enough that you’ll hear the energy but far enough that you can actually sleep. Plus, there’s a tram stop practically outside your door, which makes getting around the city ridiculously easy.
The Apartment Experience
What sets this place apart is that you’re staying in an actual apartment, not just a hotel room. The space feels lived-in rather than sterile — you know what I mean? There’s a proper kitchen where you can make coffee the way you like it or grab some cheese and bread from the local market for breakfast. The canal views aren’t just a marketing gimmick either; you actually get lovely glimpses of the water and those iconic Amsterdam houseboats bobbing around. The whole setup works perfectly for couples (which explains why they rate this place so highly), giving you that “playing house in Amsterdam” experience.
Practical Perks
The thing about staying somewhere with an 8.9 location score is that everything just works better. Need groceries? There’s a decent supermarket two blocks away. Want to grab dinner? You’ve got everything from brown cafés serving proper Dutch food to trendy spots that locals actually frequent. I mean, you’re not hunting around for a good restaurant — they’re everywhere. The apartment itself is well-equipped without being fancy, and there’s enough space that you’re not tripping over your luggage every five minutes.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the flashiest place in Amsterdam, but that’s actually why it works so well. You get to live like a local for a few days rather than feeling like you’re camping out in a hotel. The combination of being centrally located but on a relatively quiet street, having your own space to spread out, and those genuine canal views creates something pretty special. Couples especially seem to get it — there’s something romantic about having your own little Amsterdam hideaway where you can watch the boats drift by with your morning coffee. For the price point and location, it’s honestly hard to beat.
Apartments in Amsterdam suit families with canal-facing windows, full kitchens, and sunset bike rides through De Pijp.

What Our Guests Say
Fabulous stay Commodious apartment and shower.Fully equipped kitchen main bedroom and lounge with big windows. Centrally located and right at the canal.
What could be improved: Toilet lights are dim and no bedside lamps in both rooms. No tea spoon and the wash basin in shower room and kitchen sink drain is very slow.
Excellent appartment Excellent location but roadworks made it a little more tricky to get to
Very good Location was great; walking distance (~1,5km) to both Dam Square & Museumplein
What could be improved: Decor a bit tired for the price.
Superb Large and spacious apartment almost in the city center. Direct by the canal and inside a typical Amsterdam's house. In reality even better than in the photos.
A great apartment in a good location, just needs some minor repairs and cleaning. The location was great, a few issues with the apartment however Nelson was a great host, very responsive and did well to rectify the issues we brought up. Main Bedroom clean, very spacious and comfy 2nd bd small but still comfy and clean.
What could be improved: A few issues with furniture and cleanliness down to cleaner not doing a good job, Nelson was quick to respond and apologetic, did all he could in the circumstances. He came to inspect the apartment once I notified him, he assured me he would tend to the issues I had pointed out.
Not far from city, good for a getaway for friends or a group Nelson was really nice, left us a bottle of wine and some stroopwaffles. The place was tidy and had more than enough room for 4 of us, we were able to watch netflix on the TV
What could be improved: Nothing bad really, the door handle as you come in isn’t screwed in properly so I accidentally pulled it off but was able to put it back on easily. Toilet roll holder was hanging on but this wasn’t really an issue for us.
A good place to stay in Amsterdam. The apartment was big and clean and in a great location.
What could be improved: There were no blankets on the beds. Only the blanket cover to put around a blanket, even though temperatures went under 12°C that night. And there seemed to be no smoke detectors.
Good It was okay. would book again
What could be improved: Only thing is that it's really really noisy. We all woke up at 7am and it sounded like there were people in the apartment
Good Good location and easy access to public transportation.
It's a good place to sleep if you are gonna spend most of the day outside exploring the city.
Hosts was nice, response, and left us a welcome gift.
What could be improved: It's a normal apartment that is in need of some updates, not quite "luxurious". Some things are a bit run down. There are some stairs inside the apartment that appear to be access for another apartment or area, noise leaks through there.
great location the property was spacious and was in a great location. the property was clean and tidy and had everything we needed.
What could be improved: only a small thing, the decor could do with a refresh as there are marks on the wall.
