First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Camping Zeeburg Amsterdam, I’ll admit I was curious about what to expect from a camping site right in the city. Located in the Zeeburg district, this three-star spot sits along the Zuider IJdijk with views of the IJ waterway that honestly surprised me. It’s not your typical Amsterdam accommodation, but that’s exactly what makes it interesting — you’re staying in Amsterdam without the cramped canal house experience.
The Setup
The parking situation here is refreshingly straightforward, which anyone who’s driven in Amsterdam will appreciate. You’ve got options ranging from your own tent pitch to ready-made safari tents and even cozy cabins if you want something more solid. I stayed in one of their wooden cabins, and while it’s compact, there’s a certain charm to having your own little space with a small kitchenette — perfect for morning coffee before the city wakes up.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about Zeeburg — you’re technically in Amsterdam but it feels like you’ve escaped the tourist crowds. The area has this laid-back, almost waterfront neighborhood vibe that locals seem to prefer. Getting into the center is actually pretty easy with public transport, and honestly, the bike ride along the water into town is one of those simple pleasures that makes the whole experience worthwhile.
Unexpected Perks
The communal restaurant area became my favorite hangout spot, especially in the evenings when fellow travelers would gather. There’s something about the mix of nationalities and travel stories that you just don’t get at regular hotels. The facilities are clean and well-maintained — important when you’re sharing spaces — and the staff actually seem to enjoy working there, which shows in how they help out with local tips and directions.
Why Guests Love It
What struck me most was how this place attracts people who want to experience Amsterdam differently. You’re not just another tourist checking boxes — you’re part of a small community for a few days. The waterfront location means incredible sunsets, and there’s something oddly satisfying about falling asleep to the gentle sounds of boats rather than trams and late-night revelers. It’s budget-friendly without feeling cheap, and you’ll leave with stories that your friends staying in standard hotels simply won’t have.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Amsterdam before autumn brings golden leaves, pumpkin soups, and cozy canal reflections.

What Our Guests Say
Great value for money. Great staff functional but small room. Little far out but just hire bikes and it’s not a problem.
Very good Beautiful place, great atmosphere and kind staff
What could be improved: Not enough kitchen space and utensils
Great price , very basic but too far out unless a bike is hired Very economical costs , I can imagine lovely in the summer with lots of activities available, very secure
What could be improved: It’s a long walk to the tram station, up to 30mins and in the rain that’s not fun . Ubers and taxis very expensive back and fore to the city , it’s a good 4 miles out and not really walkable . Suggest hire bikes
Content River view with morning sunrise
Great camp ground. Good people, ant city in the summer. The rooms are great!! Our only downside was ants everywhere!!! It was infested with ants sadly. They did switch us to an upgraded room. Whi h was much better but cleaner for sure. Thankfully ants are pretty sanitary but do bite. I understand the urge to preserve wildlife and not put poison out or anything unsafe. But there's safe alternatives to infestation. Preserving wildlife and dealing with infestation are two completely different things. Borax or something safe would be ideal. But nonetheless would return. Cute little resort with everything you'd need. Loved the people, our stay and bike rental prices.

What could be improved: Troppi ragni
Superb Very good family atmosphere, relax place to see the ducks, good connection to the central station, they have grocery store, vendingachine with coffe and nice restaurant with accesible prices
What could be improved: Quite hard to find available pots for cooking in the common kitchen,
Nice place overall I think it was good value for money. I loved the green roof of my little hut and that it was right next to the water. I thought it was warm and comfortable. The room had a high ceiling which made it feel more spacious, and it included a folding chair so I could sit outside and have my breakfast. Well designed layout of the campsite. Other guests were mostly very considerate.
I would definitely recommend staying here to friends or family. It is a budget option - the main other budget option in Amsterdam is staying in a hostel, and I didn't want to do that as I'm in my 30s and prefer somewhere peaceful. Especially given that so many people go to Amsterdam to party.
What could be improved: I don't think the hired bikes are safe. You can hire bikes from the hostel, but they use a back pedal braking system.
I am a very experienced cyclist (I cycle most days for commuting and socialising, and I cycle long-distances for sport). I had never used a back pedal braking bike before and I had a lot of trouble getting the bike to stop in an adequate time. When you brake using the back pedal system it seems to still take several meters to come to a stop. Every time I went over a bridge or downhill I needed to put my feet on the ground ultimately to come to a stop. I got shouted at by Dutch people a couple of times because of this slow braking system.
I noticed that a lot of the hired bikes in Amsterdam seem to use this back pedal braking system. There may be a knack to it. However, this back pedal braking system is not commonly used in most parts of Europe and when your guests are tourists and most people are used to front brakes, you should have front brake bikes.
Bathrooms and showers were shared between men and women. I would prefer to have separate spaces for women.
Also I think the campsite shop was very overpriced and they should provide washing up liquid in the kitchen area. Staff were sometimes friendly sometimes didn't seem that bothered.
A great location to explore Amsterdam but return to a peaceful location at the end of the day. The location was good. A quick 7 minute tram to central station. Staff were really friendly and the facilities were clean .
What could be improved: There is nothing not to like. The accommodation is basic as expected and good value for money.
Very good Beautiful spot, plenty green, shop and restaurant available at the campsite.
