First Impressions
Walking into Boutique Hotel Albus Amsterdam Centre, I was honestly surprised by how calm everything felt despite being right in the thick of things on Vijzelstraat. The lobby has this understated elegance — sort of minimalist but warm, with these beautiful raw materials that give it character without trying too hard. You know what struck me most? The staff actually seemed to know their neighborhood inside and out, which isn’t always the case at four-star places in busy city centers.
Location & Neighborhood
The location is actually perfect if you want to be in Amsterdam without feeling overwhelmed by tourist crowds. Vijzelstraat runs parallel to the main shopping drag, so you’re literally a two-minute walk from everything — the canals, museums, those little brown cafés everyone talks about. I mean, I walked to the Rijksmuseum in about eight minutes, and there’s a great local market just around the corner that most visitors miss completely.
The Room Experience
My room was smaller than what you’d get in American hotels, but that’s Amsterdam for you — and honestly, they’ve made smart use of every inch. The design feels very Dutch modern, with clean lines and this gorgeous natural light that floods in through surprisingly large windows. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that I didn’t want to leave.
Dining & Social Spaces
The restaurant downstairs serves what I’d call elevated comfort food — nothing too fancy, but everything’s done really well. Their breakfast spread impressed me more than I expected, with proper Dutch cheeses and fresh bread from a local bakery. The bar area becomes this cozy gathering spot in the evenings, and I ended up chatting with other travelers and a few locals who clearly knew to come here for good drinks without the tourist markup.
Why Guests Love It
What sets Albus apart is that it feels like it belongs in Amsterdam rather than just being dropped into it. The building has history — you can feel it in the thick walls and original details they’ve preserved — but everything’s been updated thoughtfully. There’s also this sense that the hotel cares about the neighborhood; they partner with local businesses and actually encourage guests to explore beyond the obvious tourist spots. Plus, the parking situation is sorted if you’re driving, which is honestly a relief in this city.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional The staff made you feel welcome
Great and cozy boutique hotel in a great location The room was spacious and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was excellent.
What could be improved: It would have been nice to have a workout facility and a mini fridge in the room.
Exceptional The staff assisted to get our luggage up the step stair cases in the apartment
What could be improved: If you book the apartment be aware of the step stairs.
Lovely, professional, and comfy boutique right in the <3 of Amsterdam's nightlife Got a free coffee first thing in the morning, because "no-ne should be short of a coffee in the morning". There was a 2nd adjoining room for son at no extra charge. Right around the corner from one of the good night-life spots. Someone in there has a good eye for wall-art too.
What could be improved: Cannot remember anything not to like.
Exceptional Close to all attractions

Exceptional The people at the reception were very nice and helpful! They gave us recommendations for restaurants and other places in the city. The room was exactly as described. The hotel is in a great location - almost everything we wanted to visit was within walking distance.
For a central location like this, with everything so close at hand and top-notch service, that’s just the trade-off. Ove The hotel is right in the heart of Amsterdam, just a short walk to the Rijksmuseum, the famous flower market, and it’s surrounded by countless restaurants and bars. It is easy to step out with something new to try every night or afternoon. The staff really stood out for how genuinely friendly and helpful they were: it’s clear they care about making sure guests enjoy their stay. The rooms themselves were spotlessly clean, comfortable, and quiet, which made coming back after a day of sightseeing feel like a little break from the buzz outside.
Raymond at the front desk was exceptional. He treated us like family. And when you are away from home, there is nothing better.
What could be improved: The room price per night—it’s on the high side, but honestly, that seems to be the case everywhere in central Amsterdam.
