First Impressions
Walking up to Bickersbed on Schiemanstraat, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked away just enough to feel special, but you’re literally steps from everything that makes Amsterdam incredible. This four-star boutique spot has that perfect balance where it feels intimate without being cramped, and honestly, the 9.4 rating makes complete sense once you’re inside. The building itself has character — you know, that authentic Amsterdam charm that some of the bigger chain hotels just can’t replicate.
Location Magic
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re in Amsterdam City Centre, but on a quieter street that locals actually use. I mean, you can walk to the Anne Frank House in about ten minutes, hit the Jordaan district for dinner, or catch a canal cruise without dealing with the chaos of Dam Square right outside your door. The couples who stay here get it — there’s something romantic about being able to stroll along the canals at night and actually have a conversation without shouting over tourist crowds. Plus, you’ve got proper neighborhood cafés and shops mixed in with the tourist spots, which gives you that authentic Amsterdam experience.
The Room Experience
Okay, let’s talk about those beds — they’re genuinely fantastic. I’m usually pretty skeptical when hotels boast about their bedding, but Bickersbed actually delivers on the comfort front. The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully designed rather than just decorated, if that makes sense. You’ll find those little touches that show someone actually thought about what travelers need — good lighting for reading, enough outlets for your devices, and room to actually unpack without everything feeling cluttered. The windows let in plenty of natural light during the day, and the whole space just feels… well, restful.
Neighborhood Vibes
What really sets this place apart is how it connects you to the real Amsterdam. You’re close enough to walk to Centraal Station when you need to catch a train, but far enough away that you’re not hearing announcements at all hours. The surrounding streets have that perfect mix — there’s a great local restaurant scene within a few blocks, plus you’re walking distance to the famous brown cafés where locals actually hang out. I particularly love that you can grab fresh stroopwafels from a street vendor on your way to explore, or duck into one of those tiny specialty shops that seem to exist on every corner in this part of the city.
Why Guests Love It
The thing about Bickersbed is that it gets the fundamentals right — location, comfort, and that intangible feeling of being somewhere special rather than just anywhere. Couples especially seem to appreciate how the hotel strikes that balance between being centrally located and maintaining a sense of intimacy. You’re not fighting crowds to get to your front door, but you’re also not stuck in some remote area wondering how to get to the Van Gogh Museum. It’s the kind of place where you actually look forward to coming back at the end of the day, which honestly isn’t something I can say about every hotel in Amsterdam’s city center.

What Our Guests Say
A quiet, well-connected location with a great room and exceptional hospitality. The location was perfect. A little out of the way and quieter (which we like) but still well connected. Maria was incredibly kind and helpful as it was our first time in the city. The room was great and quiet even though it’s near the train lines.
What could be improved: Nothing!
A lovely and peaceful place to stay in Amsterdam. We’d definitely come back! We felt truly welcomed, the host was warm and attentive. The room was clean, cosy and had everything we needed.
What could be improved: Honestly, nothing to complain about. Everything met or exceeded our expectations.
Home away from home Very clean and Maria is very responsive and helpful.
The room is big and immaculately cleaned. Every things are thoughtfully presented.
There are capsule coffee machine and kitchen facility.
Location is convenient.
We really enjoy our stay.
What could be improved: None.
Really lovely apartment! Maria was wonderful in her welcome of us, and the place is pretty, clean, cozy, and perfectly equipped. It's a lovely hideaway for two, close to all necessary transportation (bus, tram, ferry)
What could be improved: The main train line is literally outside the windows, so be prepared for train noise when you open the windows. When windows are shut, though, the sound was really not a big deal.
Cozy apartment in the center of Amsterdam
Vuoi aggiungere dettagli o mantenerla semplice così? Quiet location, close to public transport stops and several places to eat or have breakfast. Cozy and spacious apartment, with a small living room, bathroom, bedroom, and a kitchen shared with the other bookable room. Clean and cozy. Maria is very kind and helpful.
What could be improved: In my opinion everything was good.
So clean ,kind owner , awesome location It was soo clean. Maria was soo helpfull and kind. The bed was soo comfortable and the location of the place is soo good. We are definitely going to stay for our next amsterdam visit
The place was clean, quiet in a nice area We really appreciated how clean the place was, and having a fridge was a great bonus. It was also very quiet with no noise from outside, which made for a peaceful stay. The host was excellent—friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Would definitely recommend!
Spacious base in Amsterdam Great location, only 100yards from no.5 tram down into the Jordaan and Museums or 18or21bus to or from the centre and station.
Lovely and clean with plenty of space and extra space for a dining area. We appreciated the comfy bed and lots of helpful extras such as toiletries, coffee pod machine and jars with starter supplies for a great coffee. The flat is very close to a small supermarket which was remarkably well stocked with all we needed including fresh salad and fruit, tubs of sauces and pickles, cubed cheeses and picnic fare. The store is in a small square with other shops and cafes, and leading off the square is a long , main street with several dozen shops and yummy bakeries which is great to explore. Look out for the paper craft store and their beautiful hummingbird and butterfly, bee and insect kits which flat pack into slim envelopes- great gifts to take home for family or frame for yourself.
Chloe and Maria were great hosts. They helped with maps and directions and took the time to make sure how everything worked.
There are loads of small cafes nearby, but our favourite was Tasca Bellota, no more than ,5or 6mins walk from the flat. Brilliant tapas to build an amazing feast. Staff are smiley and really helpful, and the wines were tasty and very reasonable, but more importantly everything from the seafood to the vegetarian cannelloni to the Spanish toast dessert was delicious. Have fun.
What could be improved: Everything was great. In common with most Dutch houses the stairs are very narrow and steep, which we expected and took care with.
Exceptional The house had everything we needed and was very clean. The host Maria was very helpful. She gave us a lot of information about the house and Amsterdam. She was the most caring host we have ever seen. We even had to call her when we had trouble finding a taxi to go to the airport at six in the morning via Bolt and Uber. She took care of it immediately and got us a taxi. If we go to Amsterdam again, this will definitely be the place we will stay. Thank you very much for everything.
What could be improved: -
Exceptional The suite was very clean, well furnished and all was in working order. Maria was very welcoming and informative.
